Unmemorable musical
malcolmgsw19 December 2007
Twentieth Century Fox made a lot of bight breezy and entertaining musicals in the 1930s but alas it is not one of them. The plot such as it is is poorly written, the musical numbers are unmemorable and the comedy is distinctly unfunny.I happen to like Joan Davis so it is a bit of a task to render her as unfunny as she is in this film. The cast is reasonably good but even such supporting actors as George Barbier are just unable to do anything worthwhile with the material. The fact that Tony Martin is the lead gives some idea as to the status of this 67 minute exercise in how not to make an entertaining film. This was clearly meant for the bottom half of a double bill and has clearly been forgotten once its release was over. All participating should be thankful for that.
