January’s home media releases are ending on a high note, as there are a bunch of great titles headed to Blu-ray and DVD this week. My very favorite film of 2019, Bong Joon Ho’s Parasite is making its debut on both formats, and if you missed it in theaters last year, Terminator: Dark Fate is hitting multiple formats as well.
For those of you who dig totally bananapants filmmaking, Tammy and the T-Rex is being released this week courtesy of Vinegar Syndrome. Vs is also keeping busy with Berserker, Beyond the Door 3, and Unmasked Part 25, and Scream Factory is bringing home Body Parts, Let’s Scare Jessica to Death, as well as a Steelbook Edition of The Slumber Party Massacre, too.
Arrow Video has put together a special edition release of Edge of the Axe, and the Warner Archive Collection is showing some love to the criminally underseen Two on a Guillotine.

With Hugh Jackman currently negotiating to play Wolverine for a seventh and eighth time, Cinelinx takes a look at actors who’ve played the same role eight times or more. Who has played the same character most often? Come in and find out.
Hugh Jackman has already played Wolverine five times--x-Men (2000), X2: X-Men United (2003) X-Men: The Last Stand (2006), X-Men Origins: Wolverine (2009), and The Wolverine (2013)—as well as a cameo in X-Men:First Class (2011). Soon we’ll be seeing him fully clawed again on the big screen in X-Men: Days of Future Past. Recently, he told Collider that he might shoot Wolverine 3 and X-Men: Apocalypse “back-to-back”, which would make a total of eight times (9 times with the cameo) that he’ll portray the Canadian mutant.
You might be thinking “Wow! That’s amazing! I’ve never heard of anyone playing the same role so many times.” Well, for those who may not know it,...

Mickey Rooney dead at 93: Four-time Oscar nominee, frequent Judy Garland co-star may have had the longest film career ever (photo: Mickey Rooney ca. 1940) Mickey Rooney, four-time Academy Award nominee and one of the biggest domestic box-office draws during the studio era, died of "natural causes" on Sunday, April 6, 2014, at his home in the Los Angeles suburb of North Hollywood. The Brooklyn-born Rooney (as Joseph Yule Jr., on September 23, 1920) had reportedly been in ill health for some time. He was 93. Besides his countless movies, and numerous television and stage appearances, Mickey Rooney was also known for his stormy private life, which featured boozing and gambling, some widely publicized family infighting (including his testifying in Congress in 2011 about elder abuse), his filing for bankruptcy in 1962 after having earned a reported $12 million (and then going bankrupt again in 1996), his eight marriages — including those to actresses Ava Gardner, Martha Vickers, and Barbara Ann Thomason...

Another one of the greats from the short history of Hollywood has left this world. The New York Times reports legendary veteran actor Mickey Rooney passed away at his home in North Hollywood on Sunday at age 93. Rooney was most recently seen in family comedies The Muppets and the Night at the Museum franchise, but his career in entertainment began at the tender age of two, as part of a family vaudeville act. But his career as a child star wouldn't begin until he landed a role as Mickey McGuire in a series of comedic short films that lasted for nine years. And it was that role which led to feature film fame. Rooney's first feature film role came in the 1937 film A Family Affair alongside Lionel Barrymore. Rooney played a character named Andy Hardy, and would reprise that role in 14 more movies, some of which helped him become the...

"If you stomped on Mickey Rooney/ He'd still turn 'round and smile..." sang The Kinks in "Celluloid Heroes." And indeed, for an actor who spent nearly every moment of his life under the spotlight, it's hard to imagine a time he wasn't wearing a big grin, but today that light has faded, with Mickey Rooney passing away over the weekend at 93 years old. A multi-talented performer who could do comedy, drama, sing and dance—picking up those skills as part of the family vaudeville act that saw him part of the routine before he was even two years old—Rooney first shot to fame at MGM, where an appearance opposite Lionel Barrymore in 1937's "A Family Affair," was the start of a string of successful and popular films. From 1939-1941 he was the biggest box office draw in the country and barely entering adulthood, he could already count Judy Garland as a regular co-star,...

It's with saddened hearts we report the loss of another acting legend, Mickey Rooney, who passed away in his North Hollywood home on Sunday in the presence of his family at the age of 93. Although he continued to act and appear in movies up until recently, making a cameo in the 2011 movie The Muppets , Rooney began working from the age of six when he appeared in a series of black and white short film comedies as Mickey McGuire, a role he would play for nearly nine years. He transitioned from that role into that of Andy Hardy in 1937's A Family Affair and You're Only Young Once , a character he would play for 14 more movies, including 1937's Love Finds Andy Hardy , co-starring Judy Garland. Rooney would once again team with Garland for 1940's Babes in Arms for which...

Mickey Rooney, the Hollywood actor who spent his entire life in showbusiness, has died aged 93.
Born Joseph Yule Jr in Brooklyn, his parents included him in their vaudeville act when he was just 18 months old.
After his mother moved him to California, his first film role as Mickey McGuire came when he was six, in Orchids and Ermine, and he starred in a string of ‘Mickey’ movies that stretched into the 1930s.
In 1937, he took the part of Andy Hardy in A Family Affair under his new name, Mickey Rooney, and the box office hit led to another series of films that lasted eight years and famously paired him with Judy Garland.
Alongside serving in the Second World War, Rooney starred in international hit National Velvet with Elizabeth Taylor in 1944.
The actor had starred in 200 films by 1965, which had earned more than $3bn ($1.8bn) worldwide. But he was also declared bankrupt, with much of...

Hollywood legend Mickey Rooney has died at his Los Angeles home. He was 93. With a remarkable career that spanned 10 decades, Mickey Rooney was one of the last surviving artists to have witnessed the evolution of film – from his first onscreen role in the 1926 silent film Not To Be Trusted, to his appearance in 2011′s The Muppets, and beyond.
After first taking to the stage at the age of 15 months, as part of his parents’ Vaudeville act, Joseph Yule Jr. soon progressed to child stardom – appearing in almost 80 silent comedy shorts as the comic strip character, Mickey McGuire. Los Angeles (AP) — Mickey Rooney, the pint-size, precocious actor and all-around talent whose more than 80-year career spanned silent comedies, Shakespeare, Judy Garland musicals, Andy Hardy stardom, television and the Broadway theater, died Sunday at age 93. Los Angeles Police Commander Andrew Smith said that Rooney was with his family when he died at his North Hollywood home. Smith said police took a death report but indicated that there was nothing suspicious and it was not a police case. He said he had no additional details on the circumstances of his passing. Rooney started his career in his parents' vaudeville act while still a toddler, and broke into movies before age 10. He was still racking up film and TV credits more than 80 years later — a tenure likely unmatched in the history of show business. "I always say, 'Don't retire — inspire,'" he told The Associated Press in March 2008. "There's a lot to be done.

Born Joseph Yule Jr. in Brooklyn, Rooney made his stage debut at just 15 months old during his family's vaudeville act, Yule and Carter. Shortly after his parents divorced, his mother took him to Hollywood where he was cast as Mickey McGuire in a series of 78 short films. The success of the films led to him being signed to MGM when he was 14 and instantly sky-rocketed him into fame. One of Rooney's closest friends, and co-stars, was Judy Garland. The two starred in the 1937 hit A Family Affair, which led to multiple Andy Hardy films through 1946. Rooney also had an illustrious personal life and was married eight times and has been married to Jan Chamberlin since...

Mickey Rooney passed away today at the age of 93. His health had been failing for quite awhile.Mickey Rooney's parents were a comedian and a chorus girl who played on vaudeville, and he made his first appearance on the stage with them aged only seventeen months. He was a scrappy kid in the silent-era Mickey McGuire shorts (1927-1933), then played "lead character as a boy" roles - such as in The World Changes (1933) and Manhattan Melodrama (1934) - and Puck in A Midsummer Night's Dream (1935). A star turn as a good-natured, trouble-prone teen in A Family Affair (1937) led to a long series of folksy Andy Hardy pictures that represented MGM head Louis B. Mayer's ideal of the United States. This was followed by energetic musical teamings with fellow MGM property Judy Garland in Babes in Arms (1939) and Babes on Broadway (1941). He won an Academy Award nomination for Best Actor...

Mickey Rooney movies on TCM: Music and murder (photo: Mickey Rooney and Judy Garland ca. 1940) Mickey Rooney is Turner Classic Movies’ "Summer Under the Stars" star today, August 13, 2013. According to the IMDb, Mickey Rooney, who turns 93 next September 23, has been featured in more than 250 movies — in shorts and features, in Hollywood and international productions, in cameos and starring roles, in bit parts and second leads. You name it, Rooney has done it: comedies, dramas, thrillers, musicals, biopics, war movies, horse movies, horror movies. (Mickey Rooney: TCM movie schedule.) Mickey Rooney in a horror movie? Yes, in about a dozen of those. Scarier than World War Z, The Conjuring, The Exorcist, and Alien combined were A Family Affair (on TCM earlier today) and ensuing Andy Hardy movies. Creepy stuff. Nearly as frightening are Rooney’s musicals with Judy Garland, one of which TCM presented earlier this morning, Strike Up the Band (1940). Another,...

In 1937, MGM reunited the cast of its Eugene O’Neill adaptation Ah, Wilderness! for a low-budget version of Aurania Rouverol’s recent Broadway success Skidding, about a small-town Midwestern family presided over by a wise old judge, played by Lionel Barrymore. The movie—titled A Family Affair—became a surprise hit, with audiences particularly responding to the high-strung teenage character Andy Hardy, played by veteran MGM child star Mickey Rooney. By the end of the year, the studio had produced a sequel, You’re Only Young Once (with Lewis Stone replacing Barrymore as Judge James Hardy), and it kept ...

Veteran actor Mickey Rooney has been granted a restraining order against his step son who he claims has been threatening, intimidating, and harassing him. The 90-year-old "A Family Affair" star claims Christopher Aber, 52, is coercing him to sign over his assets to him.
Aber is the son of Rooney's eighth and current wife Jan Chamberlin, whom he married in 1978. He is allegedly abusive towards the multi-award-winning actor in a bid to coerce him into signing over his money.
Apparently, the stepson has deprived the aging actor of medication and food and has confiscated his passport and other identification cards, effectively rendering him a prisoner in his home.
According to Rooney's petition, obtained by TMZ, "Mickey is extremely fearful that Chris will become physically threatening against Mickey and may even attempt to kidnap Mickey from his home."...
