Papa Jones won't have it!

It's always a delight watching pompous people make absolute fools of themselves, and in the case of Jed Prouty's John Jones, the more he does, the more enjoyable the film series becomes. But he's also a softy at heart, and after telling off his young son Kenneth Howell for not being willing to follow in his footsteps, he quietly apologizes later that evening.

It takes only an hour for this second entry in the Jones family series (although it's the first one to use the Jones name) to unfold. It's story of a generation gap and the desires of an 18 year old high school graduates to fulfill his desire to become a pilot when his father wants him to follow him into the pharmacy business. wife Spring Byington and mother Florence Roberts stand by just shaking their head at him, knowing that this has obviously happened before and he'll fail in his attempts to control everyone around him.

Prouty isn't the only fool here. There's the dingbat Dixie Dunbar, obsessed with Howell, following him from the soda counter to the airfield where she sneaks onto the plane and nearly causes it to crash. Everyone that encounters her has one of two reactions. They either ignore her or mock her to her face (or in back of it), but certainly, you pray for Howell not to fall prey to this man crazy stalker who you would not want to be on a sinking ship with.

While the plotline of house future seems to wrap up rather quickly, other storylines come out of it, including an attempt to take over the pharmacy property while Prouty is on a fishing trip. It's up to the family (mainly the older female members and Howell) to save the day, and wrap up all the plots nicely. This little sitcom of a film has many amusing moments, although the characters at time to see more archetypes than real.
