The failure of the original copyright holder to renew the film's copyright resulted in it falling into public domain, meaning that virtually anyone could duplicate and sell a VHS/DVD copy of the film. Therefore, many of the versions of this film available on the market are either severely (and usually badly) edited and/or of extremely poor quality, having been duped from second- or third-generation (or more) copies of the film.
This film is unique amongst Cary Grant's 77 credited movies as it's the only British made film he ever made.
The film was re-issued in the United States in 1937 under the title "The Amazing Adventure" (also alternatively "Romance and Riches"), and was edited down from the original UK running time of 80 minutes, to 61 minutes. Most prints these days are the shorter one.
This film received its initial USA telecast Monday 1 January 1945 on New York City's pioneer television station WNBT (Channel 1). In Chicago it first aired Wednesday 18 January 1950 on WGN (Channel 9), in Atlanta Wednesday 22 February 1950 on WSB (Channel 8) and on the West Coast, television viewers got their first look at it in Los Angeles Wednesday 7 June 1950 on KTSL (Channel 2).
