A Fish Story
boblipton6 August 2010
Bimbo is out on the ocean, fishing in a lifeboat, when he catches a big one -- or it catches him and drags him down to the bottom of the ocean.

I must confess I am not overly fond of Bimbo, Fleischer's first talkie "star". He is little more than a white-faced clown who does random funny things and has random funny things done to him. I prefer clowns with recognizable characters and so, apparently, did the movie-going audience of the era, so that first sexy Betty Boop and later tough sailor Popeye pushed him quickly off the screen.

That said, this is a typically decent Fleischer from the era as Dave Fleischer keeps the gags coming fast and thick, and throws in a couple of songs along the way. The net effect is a decent time-waster.

A Successful Fishing Trip
Hitchcoc5 December 2018
Bimbo is out fishing. He encounters the usual problems on the open sea. A gigantic fish pulls him to the bottom where he is made king by the inhabitants. Of course, this makes no sense at all, but as usual, he turns it to his advantage. There's no Betty here and he arrogant little dog gets his way. These cartoons seem to be mass produced. I need to find some information about the milieu that supported them.
