Director Maurice Elvey made whatever impression he left on the film community with working class dramas like HINDLE WAKES. However this society melodrama shows him totally at ease in commenting the exploits of the privileged.

The plot consists of unmasking the machinations of the evil society woman, jealous of her diligent secretary. This is set in a studio constructed world of exotic expeditions and British stately homes given just enough exaggeration to prop up the feverish story line.

Warwick Ward the villain of VARIETY and GREAT LIE OF NINA PETROVNA again provides a plausible presence, in hero mode.

So little of the British silent film is known, it is a pity that this presentable entry from their dominant director is not circulated.
