Strong dramatically

The sympathetic acting of Mae Marsh and Robert Harron and the accurate handling of a court scene when a young woman is being tried for murder, are the outstanding features of this four-part drama of the underworld, written by Thomas Nelson Page and produced for the Reliance Company by John B. O'Brien. The picture is in four reels, strong dramatically and very well acted. Possibly too much space is given to a story within a story, but rehearsal of events that explain the relationship of the characters, but this is unimportant in view of the sustained interest of the picture. A destitute girl ( Mae Marsh ) never knowing her parents, dances in a rough music hall where her sweetheart Bob ( Robert Harron ) works as a waiter. One day lenient judge ( Ralph Lewis ) encounters the girl and Bob in a park, and remembers that he recently gave Bob a suspended sentence for street fighting. Later, at the dive, a " Bowery " sport " ( Jack Conway ) attacks the girl in her room. When Bob enters, he witnesses the accidental shooting of the attacker. Now the girl stands trial, in which a very stern judge presides over. She is found guilty, but her attorney ( John T. Dillon ) has located the girl's grandfather, and confronts the judge, who faints as the attorney relates that years earlier, the judge deserted the girl's mother to pursue his career. The next day, the lenient judge sets the girl free. She and Bob then visit the convalescent judge, who now proclaims his wish to devote his life to his daughter.

This early drama with the popular pairing of Mae Marsh and Robert Harron, is sadly now a presumed lost silent film.
