- In 1914 Klaw & Erlanger came up with a new business model: Rent the Biograph studios & crew, produce 5-reel (75 minute) features and rent them to stage theaters during the summer when they are closed. Unfortunately their rental fees were high and their name unknown, so they went under. Biograph, who took over the film properties as rental payment, then re-edited this film down to 3-reels (45 minutes) in 1916 to re-coup their studio rental fees. It is this 3-reel version that survives today with the Biograph titles, but retaining the 1914 Klaw & Erlanger copyright. This copyright date confuses some to think the 3-reel version is the original release.
