First feature length India film.
It was considered indecent for a woman to act in a movie. After searching high and low, Phalke finally cast a male, an actor known only as Salunke, to play the part of Rani Taramati.
Directed and produced by Dadasaheb Phalke, India's first full-length feature film Raja Harishchandra (1913) had an all-male cast. The female lead role of Rani Taramati was also played by a male actor called Anna Salunke.
It is believed that Dadasaheb Phalke made a remake of this film as the original was lost(due to fire) .
The original reel caught fire in 1917. The real film is lost.
