The siblings are able to spend some time with Mom before she passes - and Tom learns she left him an inheritance in her will. Putting off his grief, Tom decides he'll use the inheritance money to pay rent and get business off the ground. He just has to wait until the funeral to get it. Tom returns to Bible study to share what he's going through and gains plenty of sympathy - then he asks a simple "why" and non-answers arise. Why is Tom dealing with pain? Kevin's only answer - "God works mysteriously." On their way out, Tom and Kevin are approached by Nicole, a rather shy marketing major, who offers to help with the duos' business troubles. Kyle is hesitant, but Tom is on board. She's hired. Nicole sees Tom's frustrations with Bible study and suggests he take a break from the megachurch, much to Kyle's disapproval. Could another church have an answer to the problem of pain? Lenny doesn't think so, but Tom isn't fazed.
