After the end of World War II is an officer in Bulgarian Army, member of Communist Party. In his 1956 novel "An Authentic Case" Emil Manov showcased the terror of Stalinist rule. The hero, a good sincere communist, takes to drink and goes mad. Early in 1957, a younger group within the Writer's Union launched a new journal "Flame" under the editorship of Emil Manov. "Flame" became an organ of strident criticism. For the authorities things had gone far enough, and whatever their differences they united in the face of continuing disrespect on the part of intelligentsia. By the end of the year, criticism was far more restrained, and officials accuse in sympathizing with the Polish and Hungarian rebels figures such as Manov. The "thaw" has ended. "Abel Mistake" by Emil Manov was sanctioned at the National Review of Bulgarian Drama and Theatre. This made it popular on the national scale. "Abel Mistake" faced strong support both from the spectators of Dimitrovgrad and Burgas, as well as from the theatre critics and the wider circle of intellectuals. Not a single one of Manov's important works founds its way to the motion picture screen. The best film to be made from one of his scripts was Captive Flock (1962).
