Trivia for
Open Season (2006)

advertisement
  • The Sony Animation technicians developed a new tool called Shapers that permitted the animators to reshape the character models, allowing for stronger poses and silhouettes and subtle distortions (squash and stretch, smears, etc.) typical of traditional, hand-drawn animation.

  • This movie is loosely based on the comic strip "In the Bleachers."

  • Ashton Kutcher and Martin Lawrence never met during the making of the film.

  • Out of all the directors, Roger Allers was the only one who had experienced feature film directing before.

  • Will Forte was up for the part of Elliot.

  • All the cellular phones featured in the movie are Sony Ericssons.

  • In October 2006 this film opened at number one with $23 million. Opening at number two was another Ashton Kutcher movie, "The Guardian", which took nearly $18 million.

  • This was Sony's 11th number one opening movie of 2006. It performed particularly well at IMAX theaters where it took in about $1.4 million. This averages about $22,000 per screen versus $6,000 for conventional theaters.

  • Sony's first feature from their recently formed animation department.

  • The town's stores are all named after people who worked on the film. Co-directors Roger Allers and Jill Culton have a shoe store and an attic named after them respectively.

  • Three and a half years in the making.

  • Boog's fur is comprised of over 1.6 million hairs. Surprisingly, Elliott has more - 3.5 million. As his fur is shorter, more hair was required to cover him.
