Product Description

From Amazon.com
The Hollywood concept shorthand for Todd Graff's semi-autobiographical musical comedy may be Fame-meets-Meatballs, but the film (nominated for the Grand Jury prize at the '03 Sundance Film Festival) has an energetic musical heart all its own. The original songs of Michael Gore (the original Fame) and Lynn Ahrens (Schoolhouse Rock, the Broadway adaptation of Ragtime) revolve around poles of upbeat gospel fervor ("Here's Where I Stand," "How Shall I See You Through My Tears") and introspective ballads ("I Sing For You"), while the score's choice of covers initially echo those concerns via Todd Rundgren's "The Want of a Nail" and the Stones' "Wild Horses," respectively. But the teen-voiced covers of Sondheim's middle-age missive "The Ladies Who Lunch" and Bacharach/David's loopy "Turkey Lurkey Time" also underscore its youthful sense of anything-goes abandon. The pop songs that round out the collection are a well-chosen and emotionally sympatico lot, especially the Replacements' "Skyway", the Wonder Stuff's "The Size of a Cow" and even Warren Wiebe's weepy ballad "I Believe in Us." This enhanced CD features include behind the scenes footage, film trailer, cast photos, and bios. --Jerry McCulley

Great film, even better soundtrack. I love Vince and Daniel! They make the film. Soundtrack plays non-stop on my stereo! The neighbors haven't complained yet.....GREAT SOUNDTRACK, feel confident if you have to pay full price for this one.

4.0 out of 5 stars The Great Music, Without the Not-So-Great Acting, Mar 24 2004
By A Customer
Let's face it, the best part of Camp isn't the story, the characters, or the acting. It's the music. This CD is perfect. Not only does it include the songs that the actors sing throughout the show (excluding "...And I Am Telling You," Ellen's beautiful rendition of Jennifer Holiday's Dreamgirls song) the CD includes many of the songs that are played in the background throughout the show. And while I enjoyed the movie, I spent most of it excited about what musical number was next. This CD is perfect. Even without knowing the story, you can still enjoy the beauty of "How Shall I See You Through My Tears," "Century Plant" and "Here's Where I Stand." The humor of "The Ladies Who Lunch" shines through thanks to Anna Kendrick, who steals the show as Beta Girl Fritzie. And the fun, poppy songs that are played in the background are also included on the CD. All we're missing is "...And I Am Telling You." Had that been included, I would have been full satisfied, although I have to admit I'm still satisfied by it. For anyone who enjoyed the movie, I think this CD is a must have to the collection.
