Diaz Confirms Dad's Death

Cameron Diaz's father Emilio died from pneumonia on Tuesday, the actress has confirmed. The actress has paid tribute to her late dad, who was just 58-years-old, in a newly-released statement to the press. She says, "My mom, sister and I are deeply appreciative of the overwhelming outpouring of love and support during this difficult time for us and all of our family. My dad was loved by so many people and his humor and spirit will always live on in our hearts." According to reports, Seal Beach, California-resident Emilio - an oil company foreman - died after a bout of flu developed into pneumonia. Production on the actress' movie My Sister's Keeper has been halted following the news.

Paltrow Suffered Post-Partum Depression

Gwyneth Paltrow suffered post-partum depression following the birth of her two-year-old son Moses. The actress, who is married to rocker Chris Martin, makes the revelation in the May issue of Vogue magazine. Following the birth of her son a year ago, Paltrow explains, "I felt really out of my body. I felt really disconnected. I felt really down… I felt pessimistic." But she claims she didn't realize she had a problem, until she had recovered - and she believes her mini-depression came about because she stopped undergoing acupuncture while she was pregnant. Paltrow has another child with Martin, daughter Apple, who turns four next month.

Bardot Stands Trial Over Race Slurs

Legendary French actress Brigitte Bardot went on trial on Tuesday to face a charge of inciting racial hatred after making controversial comments concerning the religion of Islam. The 73-year-old former screen siren faces a possible two-month suspended prison sentence and a fine of $23,500 if she is found guilty. The Contempt star, who quit the film industry in the 1970s to pursue a career as an animal rights activist, has faced similar charges of inciting racial hate on four prior occasions. The latest charges came about after the star publicly published a letter she sent to French president Nicolas Sarkozy last year lambasting the Muslim religious festival of Eid al-Adha - due to its traditions of slaughtering a sheep. In the letter she says, "I am fed up with being under the thumb of this population which is destroying us, destroying our country and imposing its acts." The first racial hatred charge the star faced was in 1997, where she was fined $2,300 for her comments, and most recently she was ordered to pay $7,900 for making similar controversial and racially motivated comments. Prosecutor Anne de Fonette told the court she was seeking a tougher sentence than on previous occasions, stating, "I am a little tired of prosecuting Mrs Bardot." Bardot did not attend the trial stating she was physically unable to. The verdict is expected in several weeks.

Lohan Denies Missionary Story

Lindsay Lohan has laughed off her father Michael's claims she is planning to work as a missionary in India. Born again-Christian Michael told a U.S. tabloid the Georgia Rule star was eager to join him on a trip to the country next February with New York's Times Square Church Missions. He said, "Our trip encompasses the issue of child sexual slavery in India. We also deal with helping AIDS victims. She (Lindsay) has made it clear she definitely wants to come along." But Lohan Jr. has shot down the claims, with her representative telling the New York Daily News, "Per Lindsay, this isn't true."

Potter Fan Weeps In Court

Harry Potter superfan Steven Vander Ark wept in court on the second day of his legal battle with author J.K. Rowling, over his plans to publish an encyclopedia about the fantasy series. The British writer sued Michigan, Detroit-based RDR Books for copyright infringement in 2007, in a bid to prevent the publication of Vander Ark's The Harry Potter Lexicon, based on a fan website he created, inspired by her novels. Rowling has so far managed to stall the publication of the 400-page text, which was initially intended for release last November. On Monday, Rowling told the New York court how the fan's book "constitutes wholesale theft" of 17 years of her work - adding that her books were like "children" to her. But, appearing in a U.S. District Court in New York on Tuesday, Vander Ark insisted he was just a big fan of the Harry Potter franchise, and had read every Harry Potter book "30 or 40 times" and every article ever written about Rowling. Calling Rowling "a genius", the 50-year-old librarian broke down and claimed his clash with the author had left him an outcast among Harry Potter fans. He told the court, "It's been... it's been difficult because there's been a lot of criticism, obviously, but... that was never the intention. This has been an important part of my life for the last nine years or so." Vander Ark also claims he was initially reluctant to go ahead with the lexicon, but was convinced by RDR that it was legal. However, a statement from Rowling and Warner Brothers - who own the rights to the Potter works - reads, "A fan's affectionate enthusiasm should not obscure acts of plagiarism. The publishers knew what they were doing." The case continues.

Ledger "Urged To Seek Help" During Batman Filming

Late actor Heath Ledger was reportedly urged to seek psychiatric help during the filming of new Batman movie The Dark Knight. The Brokeback Mountain star played the caped crusader's nemesis The Joker in the film, which wrapped at the end of 2007 - just weeks before Ledger was found dead from a drugs overdose in his New York apartment in January. And the tragic star reportedly became so involved with the character he was playing, it affected his mood, sleeping patterns and relationships with other cast members. Fox News reports that Ledger was warned not to let the movie take over his life and was pressed to seek counseling. A source tells the broadcaster, "Heath refused to talk to anyone out of character. If you tried to communicate with him normally instead of The Joker, he would just ignore you. He would often come to the set to hang out even on his days off, freaking everyone out. Towards the end of filming, he was warned by people that he had gone too far, but it was almost like he couldn't connect with those who cared for him anymore."

Lowe Nanny's Parents Speak Out

The parents of Rob Lowe's former nanny fear the 24-year-old will struggle to cope with the fuss following her sexual harassment claims against the actor. Jessica Gibson filed a lawsuit in California on Monday alleging Lowe placed his hand inside her "pants in order to touch her crotch" and "grabbed Gibson's buttocks without consent" several times between September 2005 to January 2008. Gibson also alleges Lowe repeatedly exposed his penis to her, as well as frequently asking her "to touch his penis." Lowe counters that Gibson made up the allegations in an extortion scheme. And now Gibson's mother and father are speaking out about the controversy. He dad, Jim, tells People magazine, "She felt being a nanny was perfect for her. She liked it." Jim Gibson, 63, admits he felt his daughter worked "ridiculous hours" for the Lowes, adding, "I was shocked when I heard about everything. I worry about her capability to cope with things." The former nanny's mother, Eileen, calls her daughter "very compassionate, very caring and honest," adding, "She's very gentle and kind and values her family very much." Eileen, a teacher, admits she was stunned by her daughter's claims because Jessica was "absolutely discreet" about her job, and never discussed her work.

Driver's Baby Daddy Revealed?

The father of actress Minnie Driver's unborn first baby is San Francisco, California musician Craig Zolezzi, according to new reports. The Riches star confirmed the news she was pregnant during a March 13 appearance on The Tonight Show With Jay Leno in America, but she was careful not to name the father of the child. Now, a source tells Life & Style magazine that Driver has been dating Zolezzi "under the radar" for "more than a year." The insider tells the publication, "She (Driver) and Craig are preparing for a girl. She wasn't planning to find out the baby's sex in advance, but she has a feeling it's a girl, so she's going with that feeling for now." Driver is due to give birth in August.

Lutfi Won't Fight Restraining Order

Britney Spears' ex-manager Sam Lutfi has plunged any hopes of a reconciliation with the star into jeopardy - after reportedly refusing to fight his restraining order in court. Lutfi was ordered to keep away from his former charge by the pop superstar's parents Jamie and Lynne Spears in February, when Spears' father took control of her legal and financial affairs. Last month, Lutfi filed papers objecting to the Los Angeles Superior Court commissioner assigned to the star's conservatorship case - asking for a judge to oversee the matter instead. Commissioners perform many of the same duties as judges, but all parties involved in the proceedings must agree to one hearing a case - which means Lutfi has the right to demand a judge oversee the case instead. But according to an E! News source, Lutfi no longer plans to put up a fight to have the order overturned, and is allegedly "not going" to the hearing on Wednesday, when his case is due to be considered.

Streisand Donates $5 Million To Health Program

Barbra Streisand has stunned staff at Los Angeles' Cedars-Sinai Medical Center by donating $5 million to a new health program. The singer has launched the Barbra Streisand Women's Cardiovascular Research and Education Program, which will fund research and education at the famous hospital. Streisand says, "Women need to be educated about female cardiovascular disease, and the medical community must be propelled toward change. Just like with breast cancer, the impetus must come from women themselves, striving to become empowered to reduce their risks for heart disease."
