Paramount Dumps Cruise

Tom Cruise has been unceremoniously dumped by his Paramount studio partners for his sofa-jumping antics on TV. Revered Paramount boss Sumner Redstone has ended his company's 14-year relationship with Cruise/Wagner Productions because he no longer wants to be associated with the movie star. Redstone tells newspaper The Wall Street Journal he believes Cruise's bizarre antics on TV shows like Oprah and Today had a negative effect on the box office take of Paramount's 2005 summer blockbuster War Of The Worlds. He snipes, "As much as we like him personally, we thought it was wrong to renew his deal... His recent conduct has not been acceptable to Paramount."

Murphy Calls Off Engagement

Actress Brittany Murphy has split from her fiance Joe Macaluso. The pair met on the set of movie 2004 movie Little Black Book which Murphy starred in and Macaluso was best boy responsible for lighting and electricity on. They became engaged on New Year's Eve last year, but the actress hinted all was not well when quizzed on their wedding plans at the Teen Choice Awards on Sunday. Initially reluctant to discuss the relationship, she said, "Everything is going wonderful, thank you. I'm just living every moment, you know, enjoying my day." Yesterday Murphy's representative told People magazine they have "amicably ended their engagement. They remain close friends and wish each other much happiness."

Life Imitates Art at 'Snakes' Screening

New Samuel L Jackson film Snakes On A Plane became terrifyingly real for Arizona cinema-goers when pranksters released two live rattlesnakes into the theatre, causing widespread panic. The two young venomous diamondback rattlers were released during a screening in Phoenix on Friday. Local news reports say the snakes caused chaos among the audience and snake wranglers were called in to collect them. No one was injured during the incident and the culprits have not been caught. Officials believe the snakes were smuggled into the theatre in backpacks. According to Phoenix Herpetological Society spokesman Daniel Marchand, "All they've got to do is startle this thing. It's dark. They can't see you that well. If it's scared - boom - it strikes!" The snakes were eventually captured and released into the Arizona desert.

Aniston and Vaughn Stage "Fight"

Hollywood stars Jennifer Aniston and Vince Vaughn made their first public appearance together at the Teen Choice Awards on Sunday night - and pretended to have a fight. Aniston and Vaughn, who have been romantically linked ever since Aniston split with ex-husband Brad Pitt, won the Teen Choice Movie Chemistry Award for their performance in The Break-Up. And the pair couldn't resist having some fun with their acceptance speech, made via video link. Vaughn said, "When you are dealing with on-screen chemistry, it isn't an equitable kind of thing..." Aniston interrupted with, "It's not something that happens, it's something, you know..." Vaughn then said, "I guess part of having chemistry is having someone cutting in the middle of a sentence..." To which Aniston said, "I wasn't cutting in. I was just adding my thoughts to yours, you know, that's what chemistry is, two people talking, instead of one person just talking, talking, talking..."

Douglas and Zeta-Jones Decide "No More Children"

Hollywood couple Michael Douglas and Catherine Zeta-Jones have decided not to have any more children. The pair had planned to add to their brood, Dylan, six and Carys three - plus Cameron, Douglas' 27-year-old son with ex-wife Diandra Luker - but have decided to settle on two. Douglas says, "I think Catherine's resigned to the fact. She's gone back and forth on the subject, but when she gets back into work, I think she realizes that two's enough and I say to her, 'Just think of your stepson as your third child.'" The couple have only appeared in one movie together, Traffic, though they never shared any scenes together in the Oscar-winning film.

Combs Confirms He's Set To Be a Dad Again

Hip-hop mogul Sean 'Diddy' Combs has confirmed he is set to be a dad again after a week of speculation. The New York Post broke the news that the rapper's on-off girlfriend Kim Porter was pregnant last week, and now Diddy's representatives have confirmed the happy news. In a statement released yesterday, Diddy's rep says, "The couple is thrilled about the news." It's the couple's second child - Porter gave birth to their first son, Christian in 1998. Diddy has another son, 12-year-old Justin, from a previous relationship.

Potter Stars' Kissing Marathon

Harry Potter lovebirds Daniel Radcliffe and Katie Leung had to lock lips a staggering thirty times on the set of the latest movie - just to perfect one kiss. The young stars, who play the boy wizard and his love interest Cho Chang in upcoming installment Harry Potter And The Order Of The Phoenix, share their first love scene in the film but found screen smooching hard to master. Radcliffe, 17, says, "We probably got it on the thirtieth take. My god, it was fun. Me and Katie - we were awkward and nervous at first but once we got it, it was fine." Leung comments of her co-star's technique: "Daniel is a good kisser, I really enjoyed it. He's energetic and makes you feel relaxed."

Rap Community Rejects Federline

Prominent members of the hip hop community have slammed Britney Spears' husband Kevin Federline's debut performance at the Teen Choice awards, labelling him a joke. XXL magazine editor in chief Elliot Wilson and King magazine executive editor Jermaine Hall have both hit out at the lackluster performance. Wilson says, "I think we ignore him. He's a joke, basically. I just don't think he gets it. He doesn't get that he's Britney's man and it's hard to take him seriously." Hall adds, "The thing that really hurts him is the fact that he's perceived as Britney's husband. You know, kinda like Britney's second - I don't even want to say second in command, but - he's like the Britney Boy. He's like Mr. Spears, and it's kinda hard to get over that perception."

Wilson Flashed at London Premiere

Hollywood funnyman Owen Wilson was left red-faced at last night's London premiere of new movie You, Me And Dupree when a female fan flashed him. The admiring woman screamed for his attention from a bar by the Leicester Square cinema, before lifting up her top for the embarrassed star. Wilson, 37, was left to promote the film about an unwanted houseguest without co-stars Kate Hudson, who recently split from rock star husband Chris Robinson, and Matt Dillon. He largely shunned the waiting press who queued for hours to quiz him over reports romantically linking him with Hudson.

Gandolfini Set To Star As Hemingway

The Sopranos star James Gandolfini will appear as legendary author Ernest Hemingway in a new movie about the author's stormy romance with World War II correspondent Martha Gellhorn. Robin Wright Penn will play Gellhorn, Hemingway's inspiration for his classic book For Whom The Bell Tolls. Gandolfini will develop and produce the film for US cable network HBO, where the actor has signed a three-year production deal. He is also working on the documentary Occupation Iraq for the network about US soldiers fighting the Iraq war and their homecomings.
