Farrell Treated for Medication Dependency

Irish heart-throb Colin Farrell is currently being treated for exhaustion and dependency on prescription medication, according to his publicist. The medication was prescribed to the Alexander star, 29, after he sustained a back injury, his publicist Danica Smith reveals in a written statement. Smith also states that Farrell had checked himself into an unnamed treatment centre. Smith adds, "No other comments (are) to be made at this time." Farrell is set to be seen in the upcoming The New World, as well as Ask The Dust and Miami Vice next year.
Schwarzenegger Denies Clemency for Williams

Former gang leader Stanley 'Tookie' Williams is set to be put to death, after California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger decided against granting him clemency. Schwarzenegger became Williams' last hope, after California's Supreme Court refused to halt his execution, which is scheduled to take place at 12:01 am tomorrow at San Quentin State Prison. The actor-turned-politician says, "Clemency cases are always difficult and this one is no exception. After studying the evidence, searching the history, listening to the arguments and wrestling with the profound consequences, I could find no justification for granting clemency. The facts do not justify overturning the jury's verdict or the decisions of the courts in this case." Jamie Foxx, who portrayed the controversial figure in a TV movie, and Snoop Dogg were among supporters who attempted to halt Williams' execution. And on November 30, the pair teamed up to stage a special rally in Los Angeles in a bid to highlight his plight. They've since recorded a track called Real Soon. Williams, 51, who founded the notorious Crips gang, is convicted of murdering four people in Los Angeles in 1979. But supporters - also including Bianca Jagger - believe Williams' subsequent Nobel Peace Prize nominations for his work to prevent young people from forming gangs should exonerate him of previous offenses.
Lohan's Parents Reach Divorce Settlement

One chapter of Lindsay Lohan's family woes has come to an end - her parents Michael and Dina have decided to settle their contentious divorce. The settlement, which was reached yesterday, came the same day the divorce trial was expected to resume. Though terms of the agreement are confidential, a source close to Dina says she is happy with the outcome. Dina's attorney Robert S. Cohen tells People magazine, "Dina and the children are delighted that this chapter in their lives is finally over. And it is over." Through his attorney John DiMascio Jr., Michael states, "I'm happy with the agreement and look forward to the opportunity to rebuild my relationship with my children." Dina, 43, and Michael, 45, married in 1985. In divorce papers which were made public, Dina claimed that her husband was abusive and a philanderer. Meanwhile, Michael, who is currently in prison for crimes including assault and driving while impaired, originally sought half of Dina's earnings, which she makes as Lindsay's manager. Mean Girls star Lindsay based several of the songs on her album A Little More Personal (Raw) on her family woes.
'Sopranos' Actor Shot in Police Gunfight

Former Sopranos actor Lillo Brancato Jr. was shot and wounded in New York City on Sunday during a gun battle that left a policeman dead. Officer Daniel Enchautegui was shot in the chest when he tried to stop Brancato, 29, and accomplice Steven Armento from allegedly breaking into a house in search of drugs. Enchautegui was shot in the chest, reportedly by Armento. As he was dying, the officer shot Brancato twice, leaving him in critical condition in hospital. Armento, who was shot four times, has also been hospitalized in a serious condition. Colombian-born Brancato played small-time mobster Matt Bevilacqua in the 1999-2000 series of The Sopranos. He has also appeared in A Bronx Tale alongside Robert De Niro.
Spielberg Slammed Over 'Munich' Movie
Steven Spielberg's movie about the 1972 Munich Olympic Games has been slammed as "superficial" and "pretentious" by Israel's consul-general in Los Angeles. Munich follows an Israeli hit squad's hunt for Palestinian terrorists holding Jewish athletes hostage. Eleven of the athletes were killed when a German rescue attempt went wrong. But Ehud Danoch fears the film delivers an incorrect moral message, by comparing the Mossad secret service agents with the terrorists. He says, "As a Hollywood movie, I assume that it will be defined as a well-made film, but from the standpoint of the messages it sends, the messages are problematic. This is an incorrect moral equation. We in Israel know this. There is also a certain pretentiousness in attempting to treat a painful decades-long conflict by means of quite superficial statements in a movie." Spielberg has also been attacked by Jewish author Jack Engelhard - who accuses him of being "no friend of Israel." The Indecent Proposal writer says, "Jews pioneered Hollywood. If, as our enemies say, we own Hollywood, well, here's the plot twist - we have lost Hollywood, and we have lost Spielberg. Spielberg is no friend of Israel. Spielberg is no friend of truth."
Stars Pay Tribute to Richard Pryor

A host of stars have paid tribute to late comedian Richard Pryor, who died on Saturday aged 65. The funnyman lost his battle with multiple-sclerosis, a disease which robbed him of his ability to walk and, during his final months, his speech. Famous co-stars, contemporaries and admirers have expressed their sadness and hailed his impressive talent for making people laugh. Steve Martin, who starred with Pryor in 1979's The Muppet Movie says, "By expressing his heart, anger and joy, Richard Pryor took comedy to its highest form." Bill Cosby, Pryor's co-star in 1978 film California Suite, adds, "I wish that every new and young comedian would understand what Richard was about and not confuse his genius with his language usage." And music producer Quincy Jones adds, "He was the Charlie Parker of comedy, a master of telling the truth that influenced every comedian that came after him. The legacy he leaves will forever be with us."
'Brokeback Mountain' Sets Records

Controversial new western Brokeback Mountain has broken 2005 box office records by scoring the highest per-screen average take for any film released. The film, featuring Jake Gyllenhaal and Heath Ledger as secret gay lovers, opened in just five cinemas in New York City, Los Angeles and San Francisco and took in an estimated three-day box office total of $544,549 - an average of $109,000 per screen. The film opens all across America on Friday. The film was named the year's Best Movie by the Los Angeles Film Critics Association on Saturday. The film's director, Ang Lee, was also named Best Director.
Crowe Lifts Lid on Kidman and Urban's Relationship

Hollywood hardman Russell Crowe insists his friend Nicole Kidman is smitten with country singer Keith Urban. The Moulin Rouge! actress and New Zealand-born Urban reportedly got engaged over the Thanksgiving weekend in Nashville, Tennessee, where they celebrated the holiday with both their parents. He says, "I've spoken to Nicole a couple of times recently and it was clear she's enjoying great happiness right now. Hanging out with Keith is giving her a lot of joy and I'm happy for her." But Crowe is concerned the media frenzy surrounding the 38-year-olds' relationship could bring it to a premature end - something he experienced with his Proof Of Life co-star Meg Ryan in 2000. He adds, "A relationship under that microscope doesn't get the chance to evolve. It happened to me some years back. My summer was ruined as we were never left alone."
Lennon Filmmakers Dogged by Security

A film charting the life of John Lennon's assassin has been criticized as disrespectful for shooting at the location where the former Beatle was murdered. Security officials outside the Dakota apartment building, where the hitmaker was shot dead by Mark David Chapman on December 8, 1980, are livid that filming on the sacred spot is going ahead and, according to website PageSix.com, there are frequent clashes with crew members. Chapter 27 - which stars Jared Leto as the infamous killer, as well as Lindsay Lohan as a Lennon fan - is being filmed outside the musician's former home at Central Park West and 72nd Street, where his widow Yoko Ono still lives. But broker Wendy Sarasohn, who has business interests in the area, alleges she has seen movie employees "being chased away." She adds that security has been stepped up in nearby buildings making it virtually impossible to gain access. She says, "I've never seen security anything like it."
Moss Mocks Herself in Virgin Ad

Supermodel Kate Moss will reportedly mock her recent drug scandal in a new TV commercial for Virgin Mobile. The catwalk queen lost a number of lucrative modeling contracts when she was photographed snorting cocaine in a British newspaper. She subsequently spent time in a US rehab center and is currently rebuilding her career. According to Vogue magazine, Moss takes a rare speaking role in the ad - which will air for the first time in Britain on December 24 - and jokes about her public image. She has reportedly been paid $2.15 million to star in the campaign.
