Robert Blake Arrested In Wife's Murder
Robert Blake surrendered to police Thursday night after being charged in the year-old murder of his wife, Bonnie Bakley. Bakley, the mother of Blake's three-year-old daughter, was shot at close range while sitting in Blake's car after dinner one night while Blake claimed he had run back to the restaurant to get a gun (carried for personal protection) he had left there. Blake and his lawyer, Harland Braun, have portrayed Bakley as a con artist who had many enemies after pulling lonely hearts scams, and Braun contends that the real killer of Bakley is still at large. Not so, say Los Angeles Police. Sources claim the police intend to file murder charges with special circumstances, meaning the Los Angeles District Attorney could seek the death penalty in the case. Police are also asking for two counts of solicitation of murder (trying to hire someone to kill Bakley) and have arrested Blake's bodyguard on a conspiracy charge, although the bodyguard was out of town at the time.
