Guilty Minds(Amazon Prime Video; 10 Episodes)
Created & Directed by Shefali Bhushan; Co-directed by Jayant Digambar Samalkar
It is not as if this series blows your mind off with its legal wisdom. Nor is it only about getting the courtroom sequences right. Both in place, Guilty Minds sets out to score points for being able to hijack our attention for ten episodes. Not all of it is equally engrossing. But the storytelling even when faltering and fumbling to cram in too many social issues(including an utterly unnecessary child-abuse end-game) never ceases to be compelling.
Primarily, Guilty Minds works because it doesn’t try to penetrate too far into the minds of the perpetrators. It is all done on the surface level, but with immense care and concentration, so that an impression of focused narration and uninterrupted tension is created even when the plot meanders into the characters’ personal lives which...

OTTThough the series takes its time to hook the viewer, it makes for an engaging and realistic courtroom drama that doesn’t fall back on cliches.Sowmya RajendranGuilty Minds, created and directed by Shefali Bhushan with Jayant Digambar Samalkar as co-director, is centered on a principled woman lawyer in Delhi, Kashaf Quaze (Shriya Pilgaonkar), intertwining her personal and professional experiences. Given the stereotypical representations of Muslim characters, particularly Muslim women, on screen, Kashaf comes across as a breath of fresh air. She’s neither a terrorist in training nor an oppressed woman looking to be ‘liberated’ from her burqa. Just the ordinariness of her character is startling when it shouldn’t be. The first season of the web series, spread over 10 episodes of around 50 minutes each, tracks Kashaf’s cases that range from a woman actor who makes a #MeToo allegation against a supposedly feminist director to a security officer...

In this season of corona confinement, people will watch whatever plays out on whichever screen that flashes before their eyes. A whole lot of digital stuff will get noticed that way, and if "Girlfriend Chor" happens to belong to that lot it is not necessarily because this is a bad show.
Writer-director Girish Jotwani's rom-com is enjoyable, if only because it doesn't pretend to be anything more than an easy, breezy watch. Put simply, it is about a social oddball whose Daddy Cool takes it on himself to put the son's love life on track.
"Girlfriend Chor" avoids the deeper contexts of generation gap or mindset disparity that such a situation might lead to -- in fact, the show avoids getting into any sort of complications of any kind. The focus remains on hearty humour, Jotwani and team have done adequately to that extent.

Girlfriend Chor(Mx Player, 5 Episodes)
Starring Sishir Mishra, Sonali Sachdev, Mayur More, Diksha Juneja
When it’s not busy being over-cute this 5-episode series about a young lovelorn but loveless chap finding his romantic bearings with some help from his ‘cool’ Dad, is reasonably enjoyable, provided you aren’t looking for any depth or dimensions in your confined entertainment.
It also helps that there are some competent actors playing the senior roles. The underrated Sishir Mishra who is always a pleasure to watch here plays the ‘cool’ Dad without trying to act cool. There is a pleasant naturalness, a healthy curiosity, to the patriarch’s concern about his son’s love life. Why does the boy Akaash always fall for a girl whose attention are elsewhere? Does he suffer from the Devdas syndrome?
No one actually mentions Devdas. This is not the place for any literary allusions.

“Doubt thou the stars are fire;
Doubt the sun doth move;
doubt truth to be a liar;
but never doubt
I love.”
(from William Shakespeare’s “Hamlet”)
Born in 1989, Indian filmmaker and playwright Dhruva Harsh has repeatedly stated he is a self-taught director. Over the course of his career, he has released and staged various of his plays such as “The Burning Instinct” (2012) and “Che – a Romantic Revolutionary” (2013), but with regards to his latest short film “Harshit” a different play should be mentioned. In his 2014 play “Cigarette and Shakespeare” a scholar becomes addicted to the poetry and plays of the Bard similar to a smoker’s craving for cigarettes. While this play, the fact that he is the editor of Asian Signature, a magazine for poetry and poetics, as well as him being a poet, perhaps “Harshit” can be considered as a bow to someone who must be one of...
