While The Walt Disney Company continues to acquiesce to demands concerning the tourist outreach of Shanghai Disneyland, or the marketing of "Mulan", the upcoming Marvel Studios superhero feature "Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings", opening July 9, 2021, will likewise 'tone down' their depiction of 'The Mandarin' (Tony Leung) leader of the 'Ten Rings' terror organization, whose father was fictitious Chinese warlord 'Fu Manchu', created by writer Sax Rohmer in 1912, selling tens of millions of books on the premise Western civilization was being infiltrated by a ruthless 'yellow peril':
Marvel Comics' 'The Mandarin' debuted in "Tales of Suspense" #50 (February 1964), written by Stan Lee and illustrated by Don Heck.
"...the Mandarin's father was one of the wealthiest men in pre-revolutionary mainland China, as a descendant of 'Genghis Khan', while his mother was an English noblewoman. Their son was born in an unnamed village in mainland China before the Communist revolution.

Sacha Baron Cohen’s outrageous 2006 comedy “Borat,” about a fictional Kazakhstani reporter traveling through United States, put the Central Asian nation in the consciousness of most Americans for the first time. Back then, Kazakhstan’s government had an understandable reaction to the comedian’s crude and stereotypical portrayal of the ex-Soviet republic. Now, 16 years later, with the release of the sequel” Borat Subsequent Moviefilm,” the country is once again in the foreground; however, this time they are embracing the attention to boost their tourism prospects. For his part, Baron Cohen recently said he selected Kazakhstan as Borat’s nationality “because it was a place that almost nobody in the U.S. knew anything about, which allowed us to create a wild, comedic, fake world.”
While American audiences are now certainly aware of Kazakhstan, its actual culture and history remain a mystery to most. Although Kazakhstani artists have been making movies since the 1930s,...

Welcome to this week’s 205 Live review, right here on Nerdly. I’m Nathan Favel and Genghis Khan looked just like John Wayne, pilgrim. We’ve got a couple of cool matches, so lick my Landis and rock your Gibraltar!
Match #1: Ariya Daivari def. Anthony Greene The following is courtesy of wwe.com:
Ariya Daivari kicked off 205 Live with an arrogant strut to the ring, a briefcase in hand and the boisterous proclamation that he had chosen Performance Center recruits Anthony Greene and Curt Stallion to participate in his $10,000 Daivari Dinero Division. Up first, Greene, who commentator Nigel McGuinness described as “a retro rising star straight out of the ’80s,” caught Daivari by surprise by blocking a cheap shot and firing back with a series of stinging strikes to the face. Daivari quickly responded with a back elbow to the jaw and a flurry of right hands and stomps.

There’s a reason screenwriters Ed Solomon and Chris Matheson made a point of highlighting that quote in Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure (1989), the classic science fiction comedy adventure that kicked off a most bodacious series of joyous cinematic quests. Like another surprisingly insightful comedy about a different kind of pop culture-fanatic airhead, Being There (1979), the Bill & Ted franchise celebrates the simple wisdom embedded deep within our heroes’ blissful ignorance.
Bill & Ted’s Bogus Journey (1991), thanks to its absolutely wild metaphysical adventure, incredible creatures (see below), comic ingenuity, heavy stakes, one-of-a-kind adversaries, and killer metal soundtrack, remains the favorite franchise entry of this critic. The saga returned last month, just in time to serve as something of a warm and fuzzy hug for one of the worst years in recent American history, with the reunion movie its stars never expected to materialize,...

Christian Bale is set to make his McU debut in 2021’s Thor: Love and Thunder, but it seems like he won’t stop at just one cinematic universe. And that’s because sources close to Wgtc – the same ones who said Transformers is being rebooted and Kevin Conroy was playing Kingdom Come Batman in “Crisis,” both of which we now know to be true – have informed us that Warner Bros. is looking to make Bale a feature of the Dceu, too, and one role they have in mind for him is villainous immortal caveman Vandal Savage.
I’ve long been a fan of the character, who’s renowned as one of the most dangerous villains in the DC Universe. His origins begin 50,000 years ago when Savage was a caveman and a chance encounter with a mysterious meteorite granted him super-intelligence and immortality. Since then, he’s wreaked havoc throughout the centuries,...

Chris Chibnall’s Doctor Who isn’t exactly reputable for having any and all care for the show’s continuity, which has led many fans to bash Jodie Whittaker’s latest run as the Last of the Time Lords for its numerous plot holes.
Season 12’s finale, “The Timeless Children,” had many surprising revelations for both the Doctor and her legions of fans across the world. Through this jaw-droppingly intense episode, we learned that the Master destroyed Gallifrey and killed all the Time Lords to avenge the mystery of the Timeless Child, who was, in fact, the Doctor. As it came to pass, viewers realized that there’ve been many more incarnations of the Lonely God in the past, though the character herself only has knowledge of 13 of them, starting all the way back with William Hartnell’s First Doctor.

Now if only this set had some movement to it, like a way to show how the historical figures had to run through the mall to evade security, or even better, an action set of Genghis Khan taking on mall security in the sporting goods store, that would be the only way to top it. Or maybe Joan of Arc teaching aerobics, or Beethoven rocking out on the modern-day keyboards, all with some kind of motion. Otherwise this is a great set and represented nicely in each sense considering all that went on during the original movie and the fact

Like all other Arrowverse shows, Crisis is making things quite difficult for our heroes.
Secrets were exposed on DC's Legends of Tomorrow Season 5 Episode 5 as we learned more about Charlie's past, a surprising relationship between two Legends, and how Crisis will change everything going forward.
But all of these secrets were tied to Charlie, making her the star of the hour.
One of the great aspects of DC's Legends of Tomorrow is that no main character seems to be left behind -- they all get a great story sooner or later.
Charlie, after being introduced on DC's Legends of Tomorrow Season 4, is finally getting her time to shine.
As it turns out, Charlie is one of the Fates made famous by Greek mythology, making the inner mythology nerd in me scream.
Charlie: I'm just gonna come out with it. I am a Fate.
Nate: One of the three old Greek ladies?...

Last year, in addition to starring in the CW’s “DC’s Legends of Tomorrow,” Caity Lotz participated in the 2019 Warner Bros. Television Group Directors’ Workshop. All of the graduates of that program went on to receive offers to direct episodes of Warner Bros.-produced series; Lotz, perhaps naturally, received an offer to direct her own show.
Although in the past actors from the “Arrowverse” who have gone on to direct episodes of their series have done so by shadowing directors on set first, Lotz tells Variety she wanted to go through more thorough training to see what it would really feel like to bring a story from shot list to screen, with everything in between.
“The program is like a boot camp,” she says. “It’s less about the creative side of it and more about the rigors of TV — working with all of the different departments and on your first day of prep,...

Martin Amis’ 1984 novel “Money,” inspired by his painful experiences as the screenwriter of the disastrous 1980 sci-fi movie “Saturn 3,” includes a character based on “Saturn 3” star Kirk Douglas: “Lorne Guyland,” an aging but still virile screen legend, “had, in his time, on stage or screen, interpreted the roles of Genghis Khan, Al Capone, Marco Polo, Huckleberry Finn, Charlemagne, Paul Revere, Erasmus, Wyatt Earp, Voltaire, Sky Masterson, Einstein, Jack Kennedy, Rembrandt, Babe Ruth, Oliver Cromwell, Amerigo Vespucci, Zorro, Darwin, Sitting Bull, Freud, Napoleon, Spider-Man, Macbeth, Melville, Machiavelli, Michelangelo, Methuselah, Mozart, Merlin, Marx, Mars, Moses and Jesus Christ.”
And while “Money” is not, on the whole, particularly kind to Kirk Douglas, this list does reflect the breadth and scope of a screen career that started in 1946 and culminated in the early 21st century.
On screen, Douglas was the epitome of the square-jawed leading man, whether he was playing a Roman slave,...

Avengers: Endgame may have exited theaters months ago, but the recent Digital and Blu-ray releases of the movie have given fresh life to the chatter surrounding it. They come with several deleted scenes, as well as commentary by the film’s creative team and one titbit revealed in the latter concerns the giant sword wielded by Thanos during the final battle.
This was the blade that was able to withstand the combined might of Captain America using the enchanted hammer Mjolnir and a stronger-than-ever Thor equipped with his ax Stormbreaker. Not only was Thanos able to use his sword to parry the attacks of both superheroes at once though, but he also used his blade to destroy Captain America’s shield, a feat that was previously considered to be virtually impossible, since the shield is made of Vibranium, the strongest metal known in the McU.

“Iron Man 3” featured one of the oldest villains from Marvel comics, only to completely subvert expectations with the hilarious reveal that he was actually a fraud. But according to Marvel boss Kevin Feige, the real thing might soon be coming to the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
We’re talking of course about The Mandarin. Created by Stan Lee and Don Heck back in 1964 in “Tales of Suspense,” in the comics he’s a descendant of Genghis Khan and a member of one of pre-communist China’s richest families. Raised from birth to be an amazing warrior and scientist, he creates 10 rings made from re-purposed alien technology that give him superpowers. Naturally, he wants to take over the world, and Iron Man is one of his biggest obstacles to achieving that goal.
In the movies, things are of course completely different. Ten Rings is the name of a terrorist organization, not magical jewelry.

Russian writer-director-producer Sergei Bodrov and boutique studio Cinestaan Film Company are teaming on “Mongol II — The Legend,” Bodrov’s sequel to the 2008 Academy Award nominated Genghis Khan epic “Mongol,” which earned $5.7 million at the U.S. box office for Picturehouse, and $25.6 million worldwide.
Paul Hudson, who is selling the film for C Intl. Sales, will introduce the project to potential co-producers and buyers at Cannes.
Set from 1172 to 1206, and tracing Genghis Khan’s formative years and dramatic rise, the original “Mongol” boasted “breathtaking landscapes, bloody battles, and unique traditions,” Variety said in its review.

When one thinks of Mongolian cinema, one name immediately springs to mind: Batdorjin Baasanjav, best known for his portrayal of Genghis Khan in the 2004 Chinese-Mongolian TV drama of the same name, as Khan’s father Yesugei Baghatur in Sergei Bodrov’s 2007 biopic ‘Mongol’, and as Guan Yu in John Woo’s Three Kingdom’s era epic from 2008 ‘Red Cliff’. A descendent of Khan himself through his second son Chagatai, the word legendary seems all-too befitting for his very embodiment of his roles, delivering a wholly believable yet captivating performance time and time again. On paper then, it would seem to be the perfect casting choice for Tsahir, leader of one of Khan’s ten-men military units (or aravt) in Jolbayar and Shagdarsuren’s wonderfully shot film retelling this particular legend. Baasanjav aside, does ‘Legend of the Ten’ hold up in the emergence of Mongolian film-making? Short answer: yes, it does.

American Horror Story: Apocalypse Episode 8
During Coven, there was a stand-out moment in which Stevie Nicks, one of the most famous 'witches' in popular culture, showed up at Miss Robichaux's Academy to hang out with Misty Day and sing a couple of songs at the behest of the budding Supreme, Cordelia Goode. Certainly, it was a fun moment. There's no denying the talent of Stevie Nicks, and so many of her songs in Fleetwood Mac make direct references to witchcraft, so she was a natural fit for Ryan Murphy's spooky take on Southern Gothic swamp mysticism. When a villain’s capable of wiping out half of all life in the universe with the mere snapping of his fingers, it feels a little redundant to say he’s pretty damn dangerous. Nonetheless, in order attain this level of might in Avengers: Infinity War, Thanos had to embark on an interplanetary quest that proved the Mad Titan to be a force to be reckoned with, even without the Infinity Stones under his control.

Ivo Marloh’s documentary about the Mongol Derby captures the beauty and bedlam of the 1,000-km cross-country race
To non-horse-riders the subject of this looks like the most extraordinary exercise in masochism and self-harm, and yet there is a kind of fascination in it. The film is about the Mongol Derby, a brutally punishing 1,000-kilometre endurance race across Mongolia, recreating Genghis Khan’s 13th-century horse-messenger trail.
Riders have to use the wild horses they’re given and ride all day for about 10 days, changing mounts every 40 kilometres. They are intensively tracked and monitored with Gps, with hyper-alert support teams of doctors and vets, although psychotherapists would probably also be a good idea. The contestants face tough terrain, the possibility of encountering wolves and probable/inevitable injury – or, as someone cheerfully puts it: “faceplanting”, which could lead to broken necks. It looks as terrifyingly dangerous as the Tt races in the Isle of Man.

Thriller ‘A Or B’ stands in second place with $51m after nine days.
Boosted by the May Day holidays, the Chinese box office surged by about 23% week-on-week in the period of Apr 30-May 6. Rene Liu’s directorial debut Us And Them continued to dominate, while Indian hit Baahubali 2: The Conclusion was the only new entry in the top 10.
Given the lack of strong contenders, Us And Them easily retained the No.1 crown for the second week with $108.8m, representing about 55% of the week’s total box office. The bittersweet romance starring Zhou Dongyu and Jing Boran raked in $202.6m after nine days,...

38% year-on-year takings boosted by Rene Liu’s romance Us And Them.
The Chinese box office was set ablaze by the Labour Day weekend, which fell on Apr 29-May 1 this year, with record-breaking box office receipts of $157.48m (RMB1 billion) over three days, up by about 38% year-on-year.
It was a strong contrast to the lackluster month of April when ticket sales dropped by about 20.5% compared to the same period last year.
Us And Them, the directorial debut of acclaimed Taiwan actress Rene Liu, was the champion over the May Day holidays, taking $101.26m and representing about 65% of the total three-day box office.

Romantic drama, “Us and Them” dominated the Chinese box office over the weekend ahead of the May Day week holiday. But questions surround the scale of its victory.
Unusually, most new films opened on Saturday instead of the more typical Friday. That reflected the extended working week ahead of one of the most important holiday period of the year in China. At least six new films were released, and over three days the top ten included 17 different titles.
In the days before its Saturday release, “Us and Them” was the pre-sales favorite. And in two days it scored a sensational $88.8 million according to data from Ent Group.
The directorial debut of Taiwanese actress Rene Liu, “Us and Them” stars Jing Boran, Zhou Dongyou, and Tian Zhuangzhuang. The tragi-comedy features a story about strangers who meet on a train while traveling home for the holidays.

“Dread it. Run from it. Destiny still arrives.”
You’ve heard of the Sorcerer Supreme, the Winter Soldier, the First Avenger and King T’Challa, but what about Marvel’s Mad Titan?
Otherwise known as Thanos, the chief antagonist of Avengers: Infinity War (and indeed the entire McU thus far) is a being of untold power and strength. His cosmic roots can be traced back to the doomed world of Titan, where he was ousted for his genius, physical deviancy, and “pragmatic but monstrous ideas.” Yikes.
But now, the Mad Titan plans to utilize the power of all six Infinity Stones – that’d be Time, Reality, Power, Mind, Soul and Space – to wipe out half of all life in the universe. He’s the Marvel equivalent of a Machiavellian, essentially, and in this newly released TV spot that you’ll find up above, he’s finally arrived on Earth, ready to carry out his plan.

Dwayne Johnson actioner retains top spot after quiet weekend.
The lack of new blockbuster titles saw the Chinese box office shrink further by about 16% week-on-week, making Apr 16-22 the second quietest week in 2018.
Without much competition, Warner Bros’ action adventure Rampage retained the No.1 crown for the second week with $53.7m, taking up more than half of the week’s total box office.
With a 10-day total of $112m, it has surpassed Black Panther to become the third highest grossing non-Chinese film this year, after Ready Player One and Secret Superstar. It is also the highest grossing film for Dwayne...

With exactly 10 days left until D-day, the Avengers: Infinity War promos are beginning to arrive thick and fast.
First up was this morning’s blistering TV spot that had Spidey go toe-to-toe with Thanos (Aka Marvel’s Mad Titan), before Marvel Studios rolled out an extensive featurette to commemorate 10 years of the McU. And it doesn’t end there, either, as we’ve now got yet another new teaser which sees Wakanda – and our heroes – preparing for the arrival of Josh Brolin’s big bad, who’s headed there to get his hands on the Mind Stone, which currently resides in Vision’s head.
As far as new footage goes, this latest TV spot doesn’t have much, save for a few shots here and there, but with less than two weeks to go before release, that’s absolutely fine. After all, after 10 years and 18 films, this upcoming conclusion to...

He’s big, he’s purple, and he’s hungry for Infinity Stones. You guessed it, it’s Thanos.
The franchise has been slowly building up his reputation as the most dangerous being in the McU ever since teasing him all those years ago, and now he’s here and is apparently set to completely wreck Earth in Avengers: Infinity War in order to achieve his nihilistic goals. But exactly how powerful is Thanos anyway and what will it take to beat him?
The question came up in Hey U Guys’ interview with Infinity War directors Anthony and Joe Russo, in which they outlined where he sits in comparison to the rest of the McU:
“I mean it’s like death comes to call for the Avengers, it’s a nearly unbeatable force who is determined to destroy half the life in the universe in order to bring it into balance.

There are two certainties going into the release of Avengers: Infinity War.
For one, the war brewing between Earth’s Mightiest Heroes and Thanos will spill over into 2019, given the top-secret Avengers 4 is expected to bring the curtain down on this current installment of the McU and all of its many interconnected story strands.
The other, much more unsettling truth is that no one – and we really mean no one – is guaranteed to walk out of Infinity War alive, and it’s this added sense of drama that has left the entire Marvel community on a knife-edge.
Indeed, while promoting the sequel’s arrival, co-director Joe Russo spoke to Metro about the increased stakes of Infinity War, and why Josh Brolin’s Thanos is not to be trifled with.
This is it. Thanos is an unstoppable villain he’s virtually invincible, he’s highly intelligent – genius level intelligent – he’s...

The Us turned swathes of desert radioactive during the cold war and denied it, bequeathing a medical mystery that still haunts Hollywood and rural Mormon communities and raises the question: how much do you trust the government?
The photograph shows John Wayne with his two sons during a break in filming on the set of The Conqueror, a big budget blockbuster about Genghis Khan shot in the Utah desert in 1954. It was one of Hollywood’s most famous mis-castings. The duke could do many things but playing a 13th century Mongol warlord was not one of them. Film geeks consider it one of the great turkeys of Hollywood’s golden age.
There is another, darker reason it endures in film lore. The photograph hints at it. Wayne clutches a black metal box while another man appears to adjust the controls. Wayne’s two teenage sons, Patrick and Michael, gaze at it,...
