The annual NFL Draft usually spawns weeks of rumors, speculation, and mock drafts that move players up and down. But all of that is just guesswork, and at this year’s first-round parsing of the college ranks in Detroit, the chalk held up for the first four picks.
USC’s quarterback Caleb Williams went No. 1 to the Chicago Bears on Thursday night, a move that has been expected for months. There was a bit of intrigue surrounding who might go 2-3 in the draft, but the Washington Commanders went with the safe pick in Lsu Heisman Trophy winner Jayden Daniels at No. 2, and the New England Patriots followed with North Carolina’s Drake Maye at No. 3.
This was the fourth draft with quarterbacks going with the top three picks. It previously happened in 1971, 1999 and 2021.
Ohio State receiver Marvin Harrison Jr. went to the Arizona Cardinals at No. 4, another expected pick.

Saquon Barkley and Darius Slayton fantasy owners have been waiting for this all summer. The 2023 New York Giants season is nearly here, and begins on Sunday, Sept. 10 when the team hosts the Dallas Cowboys on NBC.
As an NFC team, the Giants will play a majority of their games on Fox this fall. Sling TV does carry Fox in the New York market, but it doesn’t carry CBS at all. This means Sling TV isn’t the best choice for Giants fans looking to catch every game this year.
As mentioned, you will be able to watch the Giants games on Fox if you live in the New York area, as well as these other major markets across the country:
Atlanta Austin Chicago Dallas/Fort Worth Detroit Gainesville Houston Los Angeles Milwaukee Minneapolis/St. Paul New York Orlando/Daytona/Melbourne Philadelphia Phoenix San Francisco/Oakland/San Jose Seattle Tampa/St.

Game of Thrones author George R.R. Martin loves three things above all else: writing exhaustive descriptions of feasts, killing Starks, and watching NFL football.
When the “A Song of Ice and Fire” creator is not writing the most impactful bit of fantasy storytelling since The Lord of the Rings, he follows his two favorite football teams: the New York Giants and the New York Jets.
Martin is fond of expounding upon his fandom in interviews (including this one with ex-NFL defensive end Chris Long) and also documenting his sports pain on his LiveJournal blog, “Not a Blog”. The Westeros story shepherd has been blogging steadily since pretty much the dawn of blogging in 2006. And over the past 15 years, he has marked 235 posts with the “NFL” tag.

National Football League players are formulating plans on how they will protest the shooting of Wisconsin man Jacob Blake. Some indicate they may follow in the wake of the NBA, WNBA, Mls and Mlb teams and sit out a game.
Teams have already cancelled practices to discuss social issues. But with the league’s regular season schedule start just two weeks away and no exhibition games planned before that, the players are looking for a more dramatic statement.
The NFL has fewer games than most professional sports leagues, so missing even one could affect playoff chances for some teams.
New York Giants running back Saquon Barkley and receiver Sterling Shepard said earlier this week that the team has not ruled out potentially sitting out a regular-season game.
“I can’t really just go and speak on behalf of the whole league,” Barkley said. “But for us, that’s something that...

National Football League Commissioner Roger Goodell admitted Friday that the league should have listened more closely in the past to players who complained about racism.
Goodell issued an Instagram video today on behalf of the NFL after several star players issued their own video, Stronger Together, on Thursday, asking for the league to condemn racism and support its black players.
The league responded a day later.
“We, the National Football League, admit we were wrong for not listening to NFL players earlier and encourage all to speak out and peacefully protest,” Goodell said. “It has been a difficult time for our country. In particular, black people in our country. First, my condolences to the families of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Ahmaud Arbery, and all the families who have endured police brutality.”

Several of the most prominent stars in the National Football League posted a video demanding the league condemn racism and admit it was wrong to silence protesting players.
The video comes after the death of George Floyd, who died after a Minneapolis police officer kneeled on his neck for several minutes, after Floyd repeatedly said he couldn’t breathe. Organizations around the country, including the NFL, shared statements of support after Floyd’s death.
However, some people viewed the NFL’s statement as insincere, after quarterback Colin Kaepernick faced backlash for kneeling during football games to protest police brutality and the oppression of Black rights.
“It’s been 10 days since George Floyd was brutally murdered. How many times do we need to ask you to listen to your players? What will it take? For one of us to be murdered by police brutality? What if I was George Floyd?” the players ask in the video.

Viewers at home saw Tracy Morgan host, celebrities like Sandra Bullock present and athletes including Drew Brees, Alex Morgan and Giannis Antetokounmpo receive awards, but they didn’t quite catch all the exciting moments left off TV. Here’s what they missed:

The retired basketball superstar laid down the rhymes from the comfort of his own seat, next to his wife, Gabrielle Union. “In West Philadelphia born and raised…” Wade rapped, filling in the remainder of the song with perfect memory as the lyrics cut out.
