It’s hard to believe Grey’s Anatomy has been on the air for almost 20 years.
As a midseason replacement back in 2005, the show wasn’t expected to break out in the way it has done.
Despite big casting shake-ups, it remains one of ABC’s most popular dramas and will likely be on the air for countless more years.
With Grey’s Anatomy Season 20 just around the corner, it’s time to take a look at everything we know about the milestone season.
We even have an update on Ellen Pompeo’s return as Meredith Grey.
Get all the details below.
Grey’s Anatomy Season 20: when will it premiere?
The medical drama will return from an extended hiatus on Thursday, March 14, at 9/8c.
Unlike previous years, it will air out of 9-1-1, which is moving from Fox.

When news emerged that Grey's Anatomy Season 20 production was underway, there was a big question mark over Ellen Pompeo's name.
After departing as a series regular during Grey's Anatomy Season 19, Meredith Grey returned with professional and personal breakthroughs later that season.
Her story was seemingly at its end, but Pompeo had been adamant about coming back here and there following her exit.
And it seems she still has a soft spot for Meredith and her former colleagues because she's lined up more than one appearance in the upcoming season.
The news came courtesy of costar and director Debbie Allen, who was asked by Entertainment Tonight about Pompeo's status on the call sheet.
"Miss Thing is there, honey," enthused Allen.
"She's in the first episode, and she's in the one I'm going to direct.

It's time to start getting in the Christmas spirit - at least, according to the Hallmark Channel, which released its full slate of holiday movies on Sept. 19. Hallmark has revealed that it will have 40 all-new, original movies for both its flagship channel and Hallmark Movies & Mysteries, as well as special content for Hallmark Movies Now, the company’s subscription streaming service.
Even though the ongoing WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes impacted TV and film productions, Hallmark anticipated the labor dispute by getting a head start on production in Canada. “Christmas is a year-round business at Hallmark, so we were able to mitigate early in the year understanding that the strikes were unfortunately imminent,” Lisa Hamilton Daly, EVP of programming at Hallmark Media, was recently quoted as saying. “We’re grateful to meet all our goals for a full, all-new holiday slate and to bring our viewers the content they love most to celebrate the season.”

Why not dive headfirst into Christmas?
There's another Hallmark movie celebrating family that appears to be delightful.
One of the best things about entertainment is how you can explore different cultures, and My Southern Family Christmas takes us down to the Bayou for a very special celebration.
Jaicy Elliot and Ryan Rottman star alongside Brian McNamara, Moira Kelly, and Bruce Campbell (in a Hallmark movie?!).
Under the guise of a journalist writing a story about a tight-knit community that makes Christmas special, Campbell (Elliot) has a chance to get to know her biological father, Everett (Campbell), for the first time – without him ever knowing who she really is.
As she spends time with him and his family, as well as Jackson (Rottman), the town’s record keeper, she realizes that families are messy, wonderful things.

Benjamin Hollingsworth may be “bad boy” Brady on Virgin River, but in the August 13 Hallmark premiere, Romance in Style, he’s Derek, who’s gearing up to take over a magazine business from his father. Little does he know, it’s also where he’ll fall in love. It’s at the high-profile fashion magazine that the “Prince of Publishing” meets confident and passionate aspiring plus-size fashion designer Ella (Grey’s Anatomy‘s Jaicy Elliot). He enlists her help to learn the ropes of the fashion business — and little do they know, they’ll also find love. Below, Hollingsworth discusses the film’s important message and why you, too, will fall for Ella and Derek. What appealed to you about the movie and the role of Derek? Benjamin Hollingsworth: When the project came to me, I didn’t really hesitate to say yes because of the message of body positivity. I had my third child,...

Jaicy Elliot is known for her five-year stint on Grey's Anatomy as intern Taryn Helm.
Beginning tonight, she'll be known for her starring role in the delightful Hallmark film Romance in Style.
After watching, you'll wonder how it's taken so long to thrust her into the limelight.
Jaicy, who was raised in France and calls both France and the US home, wasn't born with the acting bug. She thought she wanted to be a singer. Life had other plans, which came to light when her sister proclaimed she wanted to be an actress.
Jaicy laughed. "As a respectable little sister, I kind of latched onto that, and I auditioned for a theater play when I was 12. And from then on, I was just acting all the time," she said.
"I was in different theater groups when I was a kid, and then, when I graduated high school, I was in a semi-professional theater group,...

Grey’s Anatomy star Jaicy Elliot trades scrubs for gorgeous designs with Hallmark’s body positivity rom-com Romance in Style, premiering on August 13. “It’s very different. It’s kind of cool because it was a first for them in terms of what they wanted to do with the theme of the movie and we had a lot of fun making it into its own little side Hallmark project,” Elliot, who hopes to see more movies like it and do more with Hallmark, tells TV Insider. In the film, Elliot stars as confident and passionate aspiring plus-size fashion designer Ella opposite Benjamin Hollingsworth (Virgin River), whose handsome and disarming Derek, the “Prince of Publishing,” is set to take over the high-profile fashion magazine business where she freelances. When he enlists her to show him the ropes, she schools him on the areas of fashion that are overlooked, and, of course, they fall in love.

Grey’s Anatomy left so much up in the air at the end of Season 18, including what the future holds for the residents. The staff attempted to make the changes the medical accreditation board requested to keep Grey Sloan’s residency program going, but they ultimately failed and the program was shut down in the finale. Dr. Miranda Bailey (Chandra Wilson) was told that she had to “rebuild” and “recalibrate” it from scratch, spurring the Chief of Surgery to quit and leave the keys to her office in the hands of Dr. Meredith Grey (Ellen Pompeo). It’s not a great plan, as Meredith had been planning to leave for Minnesota — and Pompeo will only appear in eight episodes of Season 19. The residents, including Jaicy Elliot’s Dr. Taryn Helm, were last seen packing their lockers. Here, Elliot shares her thoughts on the finale and what could be next for her character.

The fight is on to diagnose and save Richard on Grey's Anatomy Season 16 Episode 20, airing tonight at 9/8c on ABC.

Are we about to say goodbye to Richard Weber?
Grey's Anatomy Season 16 Episode 20 picks up in the immediate aftermath of the character being rushed to the hospital with a suspected stroke.
If you watch Grey's Anatomy online, you know Grey's has said goodbye to several stars throughout its 15-year-run, but we don't even know if James Pickens Jr. is saying goodbye to the series.
Back when Patrick Dempsey's Derek Shepherd was killed off, the actor exiting the show was not announced in advance so fans were gobsmacked when the emotional death played out.
What we do know about "Sing It Again" is that everyone will band together with one common goal: Save Richard.
This includes Catherine who initially thought her estranged husband had turned back to alcohol when he claimed to have a cure for cancer at an event.
