History stands as a testament that reboots, spin-offs, or adaptations fail the moment makers decide to give their own twist to the mythos. From The Witcher to Eragon, there have been several series and movies that ended up being ridiculed and sneered by fans and critics. And Amazon’s Rings of Power too can be found among such projects.
The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power
Based on the famous J. R. R. Tolkien books, the series provided its own spin on the tale by being set thousands of years before the events in the books. Needless to say, the series was not as well received. And even Lord of the Rings star, the late Bernard Hill had some deeply insulting words to say about the series.

7 Sexiest Characters in The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power - Main Image
In Amazon's The Rings of Power, the stakes are high, the landscapes are epic, and the characters are smouldering. With so many new faces in the adaptation, it's time to break down who brings the heat (and the hotness) to Middle Earth.
From dwarf queens to ethereal elves, they have unique charisma and allure that defines their sexiness. After all, when it comes to Middle Earth, there's more to love than just the One Ring.
7. Halbrand/Sauron
If evil, why hot? When Galadriel's (Morfydd Clark) close companion Halbrand (played by Charlie Vickers) was revealed to be the Dark Lord Sauron in disguise, fans were left torn. Vickers’ charm and sly smile could make anyone overlook the whole “conqueror of Middle Earth" thing.

The “Lost Flowers of Alice Hart” finale doesn’t pull its punches in clarifying the terrible trauma that June (Sigourney Weaver) and her granddaughter Alice (Alycia Debnam-Carey) have gone through, and showrunner Sarah Lambert felt it was important to drill down the effects of repressed trauma in the show’s finale.
In an earlier episode of the Prime Video series, based on the book by Holly Ringland, June finally revealed that her “Robber Baron” who she always told stories about as the love of her life, was a woman. Her son, Clem (Charlie Vickers), resulted from June getting raped by a stranger, and Clem developed violent tendencies as well. The first few episodes of the Prime Video show hinted at Clem’s abusive nature towards his wife and daughter Alice (Alyla Browne), but not until the finale do viewers learn that he was also violent towards his mother.

Fire brings “The Lost Flowers of Alice Hart” full circle, but had it not been for director Glendyn Ivin, the Prime Video series’ final scene may not have been there.
The Prime Video series, adapted from the best-selling book by Holly Ringland, follows younger and older versions of Alice Hart, whose parents Agnes (Tilda Cobham-Hervey) and Clem (Charlie Vickers) died in a fire, as she reconnects with the place her parents met — Thornfield Flower Farm — run by her paternal grandmother June (Sigourney Weaver).
After June dies of cancer, Alice (Alycia Debnam-Carey), June’s lover Twig (Leah Purcell) and Candy (Frankie Adams) set fire to one of Clem’s wood carvings of June that he made in the greenhouse where he violated Candy. Director Glendyn Ivin fought for that final fire scene, which wasn’t in the original script.

Alycia Debnam-Carey is delivering her best work in Prime Video's The Lost Flowers of Alice Hart.
The 100 and Fear the Walking Dead alum plays the titular character in the adaptation of Holly Ringland's novel.
As you'll recall if you've been watching the show on Fridays as it unspools on the streaming service, Alice is living with her grandmother after becoming an orphan.
Throughout the first four episodes, the series touched upon Alice's violent upbringing, and Friday's new episode, The Lost Flowers of Alice Hart, sends things in an emotional direction.
Twig (Leah Purcell) is trying to find Alice in the episode while Alice is off trying to piece together her past.
Alice is hiding a significant burden in the form of setting the fire that got her into her current predicament, but she was driven by the abuse at the hands of her father.
Her fateful decision changed her life forever,...

It took a village to bring Amazon’s “The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power” to life and into homes.
The Middle-earth fantasy drama wowed Emmy voters with its craft- work, scoring nominations in main-title design, prosthetic makeup, fantasy/sci-fi costumes, sound editing, special visual effects and original main-title theme music. Set thousands of years before the Third Age of the Peter Jackson-helmed “The Lord of the Rings” film trilogy, the first season introduced viewers to elves, dwarves, orcs and Harfoots (one of three hobbit races) during a time of prosperity and relative peace.
Costume designer Kate Hawley and her team built more than 2,000 outfits. By using vegetable dyes as well as berry stains, she achieved unique shades and tones for her costumes.

An air of secrecy pervades The Lost Flowers of Alice Hart, Prime Video's adaptation of Holly Ringland's bestselling novel. The show's inciting incident purposely plays out off screen: One minute, nine-year-old Alice Hart (Alyla Browne) accidentally starts a fire in her family's barn; the next, her home is engulfed in flames, resulting in the deaths of her pregnant mother Agnes (Tilda Cobham-Hervey) and abusive father Clem (Charlie Vickers). The intervening moments remain a mystery to the audience and characters alike — as local librarian Sally (Asher Keddie) asks as she stares at the bloodied and bruised Alice, "What the hell happened out there?"...

Sigourney Weaver reminds us of her unfailing instincts as an actor about halfway through “The Lost Flowers of Alice Hart,” the coiled, atmosphere-rich limited series based on Holly Ringland’s bestselling novel.
Weaver plays June, battle-hardened matriarch of a wild flower farm in Australia that doubles as a refuge for battered women. She’s also a master manipulator and control freak, and when her partner, Twig (Leah Purcell), discovers a particularly nasty deception, Twig takes an ax and goes to work on a tree that means a lot to both women. With each resonant “thwack,” June cringes, buckles and winces, a look of soul-deep pain written across her face. For these few moments, she is the human embodiment of that tree.
It’s easy to take Weaver for granted; she doesn’t work much anymore outside of the “Avatar” franchise, and to a certain segment of viewers she will always...

This Lord of the Rings article contains spoilers for The Rings of Power.
“It’s really nice that it’s out. It was just terrifying the buildup to it,” says The Rings of Power star Morfydd Clark during a Zoom chat ahead of an Emmys FYC event earlier this month. “We’d spent three years doing this. There was so much riding on it and we knew there was so much expectation.”
Clark, of course, plays Galadriel, the Elven warrior hellbent on finding and destroying Sauron before he envelops Middle-earth in darkness. One of J.R.R. Tolkien‘s most beloved Lord of the Rings characters, Galadriel was first immortalized on the big screen by Cate Blanchett in the Peter Jackson trilogy from the 2000s. But The Rings of Power shows us Galadriel at a very different point in her life, thousands of years before Frodo’s quest to destroy the One Ring,...

Warner Bros. does not simply walk away from Mordor forever. New films in the “Lord of the Rings” franchise are in the works at Warner Bros. Pictures.
The news was announced Thursday by Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav, during the company’s Q4 2022 earnings. According to Zaslav, Warner Bros. Pictures heads Mike De Luca and Pam Abdy have signed a deal for multiple new films set in J.R.R. Tolkien’s Middle-Earth universe with New Line Cinema, the producer of Peter Jackson’s beloved “Lord of the Rings” 2001 film trilogy, and Middle-earth Enterprises, a division of Embracer Group’s operative group Freemode.
“Following our recent acquisition of Middle-earth Enterprises, we’re thrilled to embark on this new collaborative journey with New Line Cinema and Warner Bros. Pictures, bringing the incomparable world of J.R.R. Tolkien back to the big screen in new and exciting ways,” Freemode CEO Lee Guinchard said in a statement.

“Game of Thrones’” watch may have ended years ago, but the HBO drama’s prequel spin-off “House of the Dragon” could pick up right where the fantasy epic left off at the Screen Actors Guild Awards.
The series, which follows the power struggles of House Targaryen many years before anyone has even heard the name Daenerys (Emilia Clarke), is nominated for TV stunt ensemble in a category littered with action-heavy series that put excellent stunt work on display at every turn. Nominated in the same category for each of its own eight seasons, “Game of Thrones” never lost during its long run, winning seven consecutive awards from 2012-18 and then taking the statuette again for the show’s divisive final season in 2020. This success seemingly bodes well for “House of the Dragon,” which shares enough DNA with its parent series that it is the current favorite to walk away a winner on Feb.

There's no surefire way to determine what, if anything, a group of fans will choose to champion — but Lucasfilm's "Willow" is more than covered on that front. The new series feels like a pleasant surprise in so many ways, from its anachronistic humor to its endearing new host of characters. It can be difficult to bring fresh blood into a world with a previously-established host of players — more than that, to introduce diversity in an "organic" way — but "Willow" pulls it off brilliantly, to the point where a number of its new characters have already become major fan favorites.
Showrunner Jon Kasdan has been forthright about the reception towards the sequel series, and with two of its characters in particular: Elora Danan (Ellie Bamber) and Graydon Hastur (Tony Revolori). The following post contains spoilers for season 1 of "The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power."
Prime Video's "The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power" finished up its first season earlier this year in grand fashion. We saw the forging of the three elven rings of power, the discovery of Sauron (Charlie Vickers) by Galadriel (Morfydd Clark), and the Southlands turning into Mordor with a giant battle, volcanic explosion, and a name change on the map. The fight was epic, and not all characters made it out unscathed. The sparks from the fires blinded Queen Regent Míriel (Cynthia Addai-Robinson). Elendil (Lloyd Owen) believes he's lost his son Isildur (Maxim Baldry). For a show with a five-season plan, that's a tremendous start.

“Deep Dive” is a in-depth podcast and video essay series with the stars and creative team behind an exceptional piece of filmmaking. For this winter edition, the IndieWire Crafts team partnered with Prime Video to take a closer look at the first season of “The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power” with showrunners J.D. Payne and Patrick McKay, stars Morfydd Clark, Sophia Nomvete, and Charlie Vickers, and eight key members of the creative team behind the series.
“The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power” truly embraces both halves of its “based on ‘The Lord of the Rings’ and appendices by J.R.R. Tolkien” credit. Lots of people know “The Lord of the Rings”: “The Fellowship of the Ring,” “The Two Towers,” and “The Return of the King” have sold millions of copies and were later adapted by Peter Jackson into a box-office-conquering, Oscar-hoarding series of feature films.

Like information offered by the elves, Prime Video is drip-feeding the information on the new faces who will be joining Morfydd Clark,
Ismael Cruz Cordova, Charlie Vickers and the rest in the new season of The Lord Of The Rings: The Rings Of Power. On the heels of last week's announcement, here's the latest news: Kevin Eldon, Calam Lynch, Selina Lo, Oliver Alvin-Wilson, Stuart Bowman, Gavi Singh Chera, William Chubb and Will Keen are all in the show.
Of course, in keeping with the news so far, we have zero information on who the newcomers will be playing, so start your own guessing now. Though if we're honestly, we're hoping Eldon shows up as this guy.
The team behind The Rings Of Power is busily filming season 2 now, and that should be on our screens in 2024.

This post contains spoilers for "The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power.
"The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power," a high fantasy series loosely inspired by the extended prequel writings of J.R.R. Tolkien, dares to ask the big questions: What was Isildur (Maxim Baldry) like during his angsty, teen years? Did Elrond (Robert Aramayo) ever rock a side part? What was Galadriel (Morfydd Clark) like during her angsty (immortal) teen years? In fairness, there are a lot of characters -- some of their core conflicts were bound to get repetitive. Chief among these mysteries, however, was that of a hidden identity, one so curious that its very revelation could spell great change for the series. No, we're not talking about The Stranger (Daniel Weyman), or Theo (Tyroe Muhafidin) -- insert an ironically repetitious joke about narrative repetition here -- but Halbrand (Charlie Vickers).

"The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power" has completed its first season, and production on season 2 is currently underway. In the Prime Video series, we meet the Harfoots, the precursors to the Hobbits from the works of J.R.R. Tolkien. The Harfoots are the heart and soul of the show and of Middle-earth. Unlike the Hobbits we meet thousands of years later in the Third Age, the Harfoots are travelers who are constantly on the move. Despite this, they still stick with their small communities.
One Harfoot, however — Nori Brandyfoot (Markella Kavenagh) — has an adventurous spirit, much like her future counterpart Frodo Baggins. In season 1, she and her friend Poppy (Megan Richards) come upon a mysterious Stranger (Daniel Weyman) who has shot to the earth in what appears to be a comet. Nori strikes up a relationship with the Stranger, and by the end of the season, the two...

The great fantasy show face-off of 2022 ended weeks ago, with Prime Video's "The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power" and HBO's "House of the Dragon" each concluding their first season in October. However, we're still talking about both shows and how their streaming numbers matched up, among other things. Ratings don't mean as much, of course, when you're a franchise prequel with a built-in fanbase and a second season that has already been written and already began filming even before the first season concluded.
"The Rings of Power" was actually renewed as far back as 2019, and Prime Video invested almost half a billion dollars in the first season alone, so its immediate future was never in doubt. This put the show's writers in the unique position of not having to wonder whether they would be able to continue the story beyond the first season.

One Rings Of Power Actor Had No Clue About The 'Amazing Twist' Her Character Experiences [Exclusive]
Major spoilers ahead for "The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power." You've been warned!
"The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power" recently completed its first season on Prime Video. Based on the supplemental works of author J.R.R. Tolkien, the show takes place thousands of years before the Peter Jackson trilogies. This part of the fictional world's history is set before the fall of the island nation of Númenor, currently ruled by Queen Regent Tar Míriel, played by Cynthia Addai-Robinson.
Míriel has quite an arc this season, dealing with an ailing father, her nation's distrust of elves when Galadriel (Morfydd Clark) shows up on her shores, and a trip to Middle-earth to aid in the fight against an unknown enemy who ends up being Sauron (Charlie Vickers), masquerading as a man named Halbrand. Amazon took viewers across the far reaches of Middle Earth in “The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power.” With season one concluded, viewers now must endure a long wait until the next chapter arrives. To help ease the burden, let’s revisit the five best moments from the first season of the hit series.
The Sauron reveal
The most impressive part of this reveal is that I, along with many fans, correctly guessed Sauron’s secret identity several episodes before it was unveiled, yet the moment still floored me. We can thank an incredible performance from Charlie Vickers and a well written vision sequence for giving this moment the weight and payoff it deserved. Vickers slowly layers in more charm and swagger into his performance of Halbrand until Galadriel (Morfydd Clark) catches wise of his act. Then he plunges the elf into a trippy, shifting vision in which...

Spoilers ahead for "The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power."
Even if you've never read "The Hobbit" or "The Lord of the Rings" by J.R.R. Tolkien and somehow missed the Peter Jackson trilogies, you've surely heard someone repeat the quote, "One ring to rule them all." Set thousands of years before the Third Age depicted in those books and films, the Prime Video series "The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power" is all about the creation of the rings that corrupted Middle-earth, the rise of Sauron, and how he fooled the humans, elves, and dwarves about his sinister intentions.

“The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power” boasts an immense ensemble cast worthy of an epic Middle Earth tale. While it’s thrilling to see so many expert actors showcase their talents, huge ensembles can have trouble when it comes to awards races. There can be so much internal competition that cast members end up splitting the vote and the cast winds up with nothing. Just look at Peter Jackson’s “The Lord of the Rings” film trilogy: despite massive success at the Oscars, the trilogy only managed a single acting nomination for Ian McKellan’s Gandalf.
So with winter awards ceremonies looming and season one of Amazon’s fantasy series now concluded (spoilers ahead!), here is a look at the six performers who have the best shot at scoring nominations.

This Lord of the Rings article contains spoilers for The Rings of Power.
There was plenty to unpack in The Rings of Power finale. The jam-packed episode not only answered many of our biggest questions but also set up key events that will lead to the saga of The Lord of the Rings books and movies we know and love. “Alloyed” even introduced some actual Rings of Power — the three for the Elves that will soon be worn by Galadriel, High King Gil-galad, and Cirdan. Finally!
But there was one big reveal in the episode that eclipsed all others: Halbrand, the supposed rightful king of the Southlands, has been Sauron all along. In the final minutes, Sauron confesses that he’s been manipulating Galadriel since they first met — using her as a way to get back to Middle-earth to fight back against his enemies in the Southlands and indirectly form...

There's been a longstanding debate, before even the first episode of Amazon's "The Lord of the Rings" prequel series aired: Is "The Rings of Power" Tolkien enough? J.R.R. Tolkien's "The Lord of the Rings" is a masterstroke of high fantasy writing, a cornerstone of the genre, a paragon of world-building, and one of the most wildly influential series of all time. Most of, if not all, contemporary fantasy series owe a great deal to Tolkien, whose influence can be seen in everything from "Game of Thrones," to Hayao Miyazaki films, to "Harry Potter." His contribution to literature and pop culture is undeniable. But, depending on who you ask, the definition of what makes something Tolkien-esque changes.
Is it Tolkien's ardent environmentalism? His real-world experiences in war which left him processing his trauma through a quietly cynical fantasy saga? His academic approach to world-building? And if so, why did "The...

It’s not unthinkable that with the ever-expanding prop-bet-ification of all things culture that someone somewhere had odds on what the last shot of “Rings of Power” Season 1 would be. It would have been easy to expect a closing image of an extremely concerned Galadriel (Morfydd Clark) or a ship on the Great Sea or even that trio of aesthetically curious rings.
For “Rings of Power,” that actual parting shot is of the newly-minted Mordor and a cloaked Sauron (Charlie Vickers) making his way toward plans for a new Middle-Earth empire. From a storytelling standpoint, it’s never a coincidence what note that showrunners want to leave an audience with at the end of a season. Yes, the image of someone walking toward Mount Doom at the close of an opening chapter is a rhyme of an ending first seen 21 years ago. But for a TV show whose goals still feel flexible after eight episodes,...

Warning: spoilers for "The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power" season 1 lie ahead.
In discussing the season 1 finale and their season 2 plans, "The Rings of Power" showrunners J.D. Payne and Patrick McKay have name-dropped Walter White and Tony Soprano and drawn comparisons to everything from "The Dark Knight" to "Paradise Lost" and "Romeo and Juliet." Their ambitions for the Prime Video series, shared in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, are clearly lofty, but some viewers may still be reeling from the revelation of Sauron's identity in the finale and how it reconfigures what they knew about a certain Halbrand (Charlie Vickers).
Though production is already underway on "The Rings of Power" season 2, we may not see it until 2024. In the meantime, fans are left to go back and revisit season 1 along with other Middle-earth lore like the "Lord of the Rings" and "Hobbit" movie trilogies and,...

Spoilers follow for the eighth episode of "The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power."
The season finale of "The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power" tackled the big twist fans (and ourselves) have been theorizing about since the very first episode — Halbrand's true identity as the Dark Lord Sauron. And while the result was not that shocking, it was the logical conclusion to the groundwork laid out in the seven episodes before it. Halbrand (Charlie Vickers), the lonely Southlander that helped Galadriel (Morfydd Clark) in the Sundering Seas, turned out to be the very enemy she sought out in Middle-earth. The shapeshifting entity took the form of a lowly human for more reasons than one, but all to service the development of the intertwined characters.
Halbrand *ahem* Sauron was right under our noses the entire time, and the signs were so obvious (for geeks like us...
