Layoffs struck Cmt on Wednesday as part of a company reorg, TheWrap has learned. Anthony Barton, the head of Cmt marketing, and Suzanne Norman, the head of its Nashville office, are among those out.
A number of employees — we’re told in the double digits — had their positions eliminated today, with the majority of the job cuts coming in the former Country Music Television’s marketing department. Other departments hit include music, scheduling, communications and events, as the groups move toward full integration into Viacom’s music group, which also houses MTV, VH1 and Logo.
A “significant” number of employees in those departments will remain, a network insider told us. The restructuring is for growth potential and is not unlike what MTV went through a few years ago.

Cmt has ordered new game show “Nashville Squares,” which is a spinoff of VH1’s “Hip Hop Squares,” TheWrap has learned exclusively. Both are essentially music star-centric remakes of the old “Hollywood Squares.”
The former Country Music Television has greenlit 10 episodes of its new game show. “Nashville Squares,” which is a working title, is slated for summer.
“Nashville Squares” hails from Jesse Collins Entertainment, the same production company behind “Hip Hop Squares” (pictured below). On both shows, contestants rely on celebrity help to win money playing a giant tic-tac-toe game.

As evidenced by this order and other recent moves, Cmt is really leaning into the whole Nashville, Tennessee scene. The Viacom-owned cable channel is doubling down on music, and fans of that strategy can expect more content — including tentpole series — to be announced in the coming weeks.

Three months after the Paramount Network (formerly Spike TV) pushed back the premiere date of the Heathers reboot following the Parkland school shooting in February, the network has announces its pulled the show after the Sante Fe High School shooting in May. The show will not be aired on any Viacom platform. Paramount Network president of development and production Keith Cox told The Hollywood Reporter, "We were going to air in March and hit pause and then had Santa Fe." Last month, a 17-year-old shooter killed 10 people and injured 13 more in Texas. "This was a very difficult decision. We had multiple meetings, and in the end, we didn't feel comfortable right...

The television reboot of Heathers won't air on Paramount Network after a pair of real-life school shootings postponed the series' premiere.
Production on the series' 10-episode first season had already wrapped, and the writers' room was already working on Season 2, the Hollywood Reporter writes.
The reboot of the 1988 cult teen black comedy – which starred Winona Ryder, Christian Slater and Shannon Doherty – was originally scheduled to debut on March 7th, but the premiere was delayed due to the high school shooting in Parkland, Florida. A second attempt to reschedule the first...

Remember the long-in-the-works Heathers reboot that has been delayed by Paramount Network?
Well, it's not going to see the light of day ... at least on any of the Viacom owned networks, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
The comedy series was set to debut earlier this year but was delayed following a school shooting in Parkland, Florida.
Despite no new premiere date being confirmed, it was expected to debut at some point in 2018.
"This is a high school show, we're blowing up the school, there are guns in the school, it's a satire and there are moments of teachers having guns. It's hitting on so many hot topics," said Keith Cox, Paramount Network to THR about the decision.

Paramount Network and parent company Viacom have opted not to air the shelved “Heathers” adaptation, instead planning to shop the series elsewhere.
In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Paramount development exec Keith Cox said some of the show’s content — guns in the classroom, the explosion of the school at the end the season — was deemed unfit to air on the younger-skewing network in the wake of the Parkland shooting.
“We had multiple meetings, and in the end, we didn’t feel comfortable right now airing the series and I’m not sure when there might be a time that we as a youthful brand at Viacom would feel comfortable,” said Cox.

Here’s a nasty rumor that’s actually true: After a delayed start, Paramount Network has decided not to air the upcoming Heathers TV reboot at all, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
The network ultimately decided that the reboot’s satirical depiction of violence inside a high school “didn’t feel right,” Paramount Network president of development and production Keith Cox tells THR. The reboot was set to debut back in March, but was delayed in the wake of the deadly school shooting in Parkland, Florida. Last month, a new July 10 premiere date was announced, but now the project has been scrapped entirely.
