Seven more spots are up for grabs in the American Idol season 16 Top 14 as the second half of the Top 24 hits the stage, performing for a chance to earn America's vote when the live shows begin. It remains to be seen, however, exactly how much trust the reboot will put in viewers.
Back in the original final season, the judges moved four favorites -- Dalton Rapattoni, Olivia Rox, La'Porsha Renae and eventual winner Trent Harmon -- straight through before we sorted through the scrap heap to round out the Top 10 -- or, as I referred to it, handing out orange vests and ordering us to pick up most of the trash from the side of the highway.

It's the end of an era. American Idol came to an end on Thursday after announcing its season 15 winner. Who was crowned victorious? The competition came down to two amazing contestants, Trent Harmon and La'Porsha Renae. While both extremely deserving of the title, there could only be one American Idol season 15 winner. So, one last time, Ryan Seacrest took the stage to announce who had won the competition. And the winner is…Trent! What else happened on the American Idol finale? Watch the E! Surprisingly, only 23% of our readers correctly predicted that the winner of "American Idol" Season 15 would be Trent Harmon instead of expected frontrunner La'Porsha Renae. Among those who forecasted Trent's victory was Denton Davidson, who not only earns the best score in this week's contest but also tops our overall Season 15 leaderboard. "When it came down to the winner, I actually had La'Porsha winning until I watched their final performances on Wednesday," Davidson reveals. "American Idol" crowned its latest -- and last, for now -- winner on Thursday night, with 25-year-old Trent Harmon walking away with the coveted season 15 title. But Harmon isn't the only one who scored big in the competition: Both he and "Idol" runner-up La'Porsha Renae have landed record deals.
Billboard reports that Harmon has been signed to 19/Big Machine Records, and will record a country album. If that sounds slightly confusing, given that Harmon broke out on "Idol" with a cover of Sia's "Chandelier" and will release the soulful single "Falling" as his first post-"Idol" output, Big Machine Label Group founder and CEO Scott Borchetta said that Harmon's album would be an unusual mashup of styles.
According to Billboard, "Borchetta told reporters he envisions Harmon's debut as 'for lack of a better term, that Justin Timberlake country record. Justin ain't going to make it, so we are.'"

In the beginning, we had Kelly Clarkson. In between we had Fantasia Barrino, Carrie Underwood, David Cook, Phillip Phillips and many more. And now, in the end, we have our 15th and final American Idol winner. The Fox reality TV icon crowned the winner of its farewell season on Thursday night, bringing to a close a franchise that has launched the careers of many superstars over the years. The final two singers competing, 25-year-old farm boy Trent Harmon and 22-year-old single mom La'Porsha Renae, went head-to-head last night in one of the most evenly matched finale performance shows ever, but which one took the crown and inherited the legacy that Clarkson helped forge? Update: Another white guy from the South has done it: Trent Harmon won Season 15, making him our final American Idol. Both Trent and La'Porsha were strong talents, and Trent earned his fan support, but that makes 10 male winners and only five female winners in the history of the series. Is it just coincidence? Were the men just that much better or did the demographic shift toward favoring men over the course of the series? Four of the five women (Kelly, Fantasia, Carrie, Jordin) won their seasons in the first six years, and then we fell into the white guys with guitars trope that was occasionally just white guys from the South or cute white guys from wherever. Point to ponder: If Kelly Clarkson competed on a season in the past five or six years, would she have won?

The final meaningful performances are now locked away in the annals of American Idol lore, and boy oh boy what a night it was. Dalton Rapattoni got to sell sing his coronation song before being sent on his merry way, and it was appreciated to get the crappy uninspired tunes over with first instead of closing the show with them. But then, it was game on between Trent Harmon and La'Porsha Renae. And even though I know who I think deserves to win, the competition is as close as it could be. And as such, it will be interesting to see who America chooses to bookend Kelly Clarkson as the 15th and final American Idol.

The night of Top 3 performances was an odd bird as far as The Farewell Season goes, because there were some spectacular performances mixed in with a collection of bizarre choices. Trent Harmon excelled on three songs I'm not familiar with, including one that no one has ever heard, while MacKenzie came up short with something that has been sung literally every season on American Idol. Dalton Rapattoni used songs I know to turn in one of the best and one of the worst of the evening, and La'Porsha Renae rode an air of inauthenticity to the top spot in the rankings. Scott Borchetta and the judges were hit or miss in their selections, which rank as the top three and bottom three performances in a night full of quality vocals but lacking in memorable moments.

There's only one week to go until the American Idol series finale. Before we get there, though, there are still two more eliminations to get through, with the fourth-place finisher being revealed next. Who will it be -- La'Porsha Renae, MacKenzie Bourg, Trent Harmon or Dalton Rapattoni?
After Sonika Vaid's elimination, will the next singer to leave be another obvious choice or should we expect a shocker after one singer stole the show and overshadowed the frontrunner? Let's get into all that and make some predictions.

With the field shrinking and the amount of filler growing, the Top 6 of American Idol: The Farewell Season hit the stage to sing songs that for some reason were chosen for them by viewers. Everyone but La'Porsha Renae and Sonika Vaid were either a hit or a miss, though as you'll see from the rankings, they were on opposite sides of the equation. The girl who peaked with Evanescence's "Bring Me to Life" made a second consecutive appearance in the bottom grouping, but she was once again able to best the competition (this time Tristan McIntosh) to survive for at least another week. Though in this case, we don't need the "at least."...

It has been a very emotional final season of American Idol.
Inaugural Idol Kelly Clarkson brought the audience – and herself – to tears during the reality singing competition's first live show of the season earlier this month, but on Tuesday it was contestant La'Porsha Renae who got emotional.
During the video package that played before her rendition of Mary J. Blige's "No More Drama", Renae opened up about an abusive relationship that had ended shortly before her Idol journey began.
Upon completing her song, the 22-year-old single mom had tears streaming down her face.
"It was something that needed to happen,...
