Vinay Dhumale started as a television professional (Producer) at an early age of 21 in 1971-72. He Won the first Janakinath Gaud award for Outstanding Television Contribution in Indian Television in 1979.
During the career of 7 years in national TV as a producer, he produced almost 200 features with eminent personalities from all walks of life in India, like - V. Shantaram (Doyen of Indian films), Baba Amte (Eminent social worker), M. C. Chagla (Chief Justice of Bombay High-court, Pt. Bhimsen Joshi, Pt. Mallikarjun Mansoor, Ustad bismillah Khan, Ustad Allarakha, (All father figures of Indian classical music).
He started independent production house in 1981 and produced many TV Soap-Operas and serials like Apradhi Kaun? (India's first TV crime Drama), Shodh (Crime series), Mahanagar (First urban relationship drama which was shot outside India), Upannyas, Lokmanya (A 7 episodes long historical biopic on India's one of the greatest freedom fighter Bal Gangadhar Tilak). All these programs were made with India's best contemporary artists like Shreeram Lagoo, Shekhar Kapoor, Nana Patekar, Tanuja, Vikram Gokhale, Tom Alter, Benjamin Gilani, Goving Namdev, Kamal Chopra, Milind Soman, Nisha Singh, Reema Lagoo, Dileep and Neena Kulkarni, Kitu Gidwani, Nisha Singh etc.
Apart from being a successful writer, producer and director, Vinay is also one of the biggest name in film and media academics in India. He has headed a number of media colleges, media departments in universities and well known film institutes for as long as 16 years. He has also attended international film conclaves as an Indian member.
In his long career of more than 45 years in films and TV, Vinay Dhumale written, produced and directed a huge number of TV serials, Documentaries, Musical programs, Game shows, Entertainment programs based on Cinema and made 2 movies. His first feature film - Chiman Rao Gundyabhau - was a Marathi language film which was a moderate commercial success but was acclaimed by critics a lot. His latest work - "Swaraj My Birthright" - a Hindi feature film released in July 2018 on national TV as a nationwide release and was also telecasted all over the world online broadcast of the same broadcaster received a great response from all corners. This film is based on the second big wave of Indian freedom struggle, from 1890 to 1920 almost, and the life of its biggest leader - Lokmanya Bal Gangadhar Tilak covering all the main events during this duration. The film revolves around Tilak's heroic struggle on personal and social front to gather the masses against the cruel British government ruling India that time. "Swaraj My Birthright" was received very well all over the country and became a critical success as well.
