Forget Halloween, Rev. Al Sharpton has other plans this evening.
The founder and president of the National Action Network is hosting a starry 70th birthday party tonight in Century City, but rather than have the focus be on his milestone birthday, Sharpton and his team have zeroed in on honorees (Smokey Robinson and Ken Sunshine) and a cause (urging more people to get out and vote in Tuesday’s election).
Held at the Fairmont Century Plaza, the event will see lifetime achievement awards doled out to Robinson, a music legend who was the founder and frontman of the pioneering Motown vocal group the Miracles, and Sunshine, a veteran public relations executive, strategist and political activist. Sunshine, who had a stint in politics early in his career, founded Ken Sunshine Consultants before teaming with Shawn Sachs to launch the firm Sunshine Sachs, now known as Sunshine Sachs Morgan & Lylis.

Sunny Hostin is not here for Donald Trump’s “gaslighting” and called him out on The View following his garbage truck stunt.
The ABC talk show tackled Trump’s latest political stunt, which involved riding in a garbage truck and wearing reflective gear to his latest rally.
“Stop trying to co-opt this argument that he is now the victim. It’s gaslighting to the tenth degree,” Hostin said on the Thursday, October 31 episode while wearing a top that said, Proud Puerto Rican. “I hope that Americans recognize what’s happening.”
Trump’s political stunt is an attempt to change the discourse in the fallout of his Madison Square Garden rally last weekend when comedian Tony Hinchcliffe made a disgraceful “joke” referring to Puerto Rico as a “floating island of garbage.”
In the aftermath of the fallout, U.S. President Joe Biden denounced the “demonization of Latinos” by people associated with the Trump campaign like Hinchcliffe.

At the Cannes Film Festival six years ago, British producer Tessa Ross arranged a meeting with an emerging German-born filmmaker named Edward Berger. Ross — the Oscar-winning force behind 12 Years a Slave, Slumdog Millionaire and The Zone of Interest — had fallen in love with Berger’s British historical miniseries Patrick Melrose and wanted to work with him. She proposed several projects — she won’t say which — but none took.
Pondering her options back in London, Ross hit on it: Conclave, an adaptation of Robert Harris’ novel to which she controlled the rights. The story told of the infighting, scandals and crises of faith at the Vatican after the pope’s unexpected death — a compelling if hardly uncontroversial yarn. Enchanted by a first draft from Oscar-nominated screenwriter Peter Straughan (of Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy fame), Berger soon said yes to the story of the world’s most secretive and sacred election.

Leave to “The Daily Show” to ask the big questions in the wake of President Joe Biden seemingly calling Trump supporters “garbage.” That’s exactly what Ronny Chieng did on Wednesday night … after a while.
“Wait hold on — Joe Biden is still the president?” the senior correspondent incredulously asked during the show’s opening monologue.
In the wake of comedian Tony Hinchcliffe calling Puerto Rico a “floating island of garbage” at a New York Trump rally, Biden said, “The only garbage I see floating out there is his supporters.” The comment immediately sparked backlash among Republicans.
“That’s a crazy thing to say even if you believe that. Just wait six more days, man,” Chieng advised President Biden. The Comedy Central host then tried to give Biden the benefit of the doubt and carefully listened through the president’s other comments about Puerto Rico. But between Biden’s stumbling and...

Cardi B will make remarks at a Milwaukee rally with Kamala Harris on Friday, as the vice president’s campaign makes its final get-out-the-vote push ahead of Nov. 5.
The event will feature performances by Gorilla, Flo Milli, Mc Late, The Isley Brothers and DJ Gemini Gilly.
The Harris campaign said, “These artists and public figures are trusted voices for millions of Americans, who listen to their music, follow them on social media, or otherwise are inspired by them. The Harris-Walz campaign believes that by using their voices to lay out the stakes of this election, it will further encourage and mobilize people to go vote.”
Last week, Harris appeared at a Houston rally with Willie Nelson and others, as well as Beyonce, who made remarks but did not perform. Bruce Springsteen has performed at two Harris events, and later today, Maná will perform at a Las Vegas rally and Los...

From slow-burn thrillers to car chases and fight sequences, there’s a movie for everyone.
It’s too late to write about horror movies and too early to write about holiday movies… so to celebrate the release of Prime Video’s latest spy movie, “Canary Black,” here’s a list of the top 7 spy movies you can watch on streaming right now. I haven’t seen “Canary Black” yet and there aren’t many reviews out there, but if you want to check it out, the movie follows top-level CIA agent Avery Graves who gets blackmailed by terrorists into betraying her own country to save her kidnapped husband. Pretty standard spy stuff. And while you’ve probably heard of many of the movies on my list, there’s nothing “standard” about them – they’re one hell of a good ride. So, here are the top 7 spy movies on streaming right now.

The Diplomat season 2 finale is a game-changing episode for the series! I truly can’t believe everything that happened in this episode, and now, I can’t wait to see what creator Debora Cahn and the team have planned in The Diplomat season 3.
The Diplomat season 2 episode 6, “Dreadnought,” begins with Kate and Hal Wyler (Keri Russell and Rufus Sewell) discussing the big revelation at the end of episode 5. Vice President Grace Penn (Allison Janney) and the Americans are actually responsible for the attack on the Hms Courageous and for killing the Scottish independence movement.
Hal also reveals that the President doesn’t know what Grace did. Hal tries to slow down Kate. She wants to blow this up and make it a big deal, but Hal doesn’t want her to.

The Diplomat season 2 episode 2, “St. Paul’s,” begins with a funeral at St. Paul’s Cathedral for Merritt Grove’s funeral in London.
After calling Kate and the Americans at the end of episode 1, Margaret Roylin (Celia Imrie) is there with Eidra Park (Ali Ahn). She’s making an appearance in public for the first time since the bombing happened. As it appears, the CIA has made it look like many people look like Roylin in attendance to cause a distraction. We don’t know why exactly, but it’s to keep her away from Trowbridge’s men and the British government.
As we learn, they want people to stop looking for Roylin. She’s at the funeral, so she’s not missing, of course.
In exchange for protection, Eidra and Kate Wyler (Keri Russell) want information from Roylin. They want to know what she knows, and probably most importantly,...

The Diplomat season 2 begins immediately after the bombing at the end of the season 1 finale.
The opening scene of “When a Stranger Calls,” The Diplomat season 2 episode 1, reveals the aftermath of the bombing. Ronnie Buckhurst (Jess Chanliau), Stuart Hayford (Ato Essandoh), and Hal Wyler (Rufus Sewell) were injured in the bombing, but we don’t know the extent of their injuries.
In Paris, Ambassador Kate Wyler (Keri Russell) and Foreign Secretary Austin Dennison (David Gyasi) just realized that it seems like the Brits, possibly including Nicol Trowbridge (Rory Kinnear), are the ones responsible for the attack on the British ship before getting the call that there was a bombing in London involving Hal and Stuart.
From the first moments of the season, we know one person has died in the blast, but we don’t know if it’s Ronnie, Hal, or Stuart. We don’t have to wait long to find out.

Arnold Schwarzenegger has been a lifelong Republican, not just in support but in actual practice since he is a former Republican governor. While his relationship with the party has always been somewhat problematic given how he often ran afoul of them, he nonetheless is a Republican through and through.

Republican presidential candidate and billionaire Donald Trump once again made a mockery of America’s blue-collar workers by donning an orange safety vest, climbing into the passenger seat of a garbage truck bearing his name (twice missing the handle), and declaring, “How do you like my garbage truck?” Speaking to reporters, he added, “This truck is in honor of Kamala and Joe Biden.”
The stunt from the former reality TV celebrity was a crude attempt to draw attention away from the racist insults made by comedian Tony Hinchcliffe at Trump’s Madison Square Garden rally.

In a dramatic display of political theater, former President Donald Trump arrived at his rally in Wisconsin on Wednesday night aboard a Maga-themed garbage truck, a stunt aimed at mocking President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris.
The spectacle unfolded just a day after Biden’s controversial remarks referring to his supporters as “garbage,” a comment that sparked significant backlash.
Trump took the opportunity to capitalize on Biden’s gaffe, announcing to reporters in Green Bay, “How do you like my garbage truck? This truck is in honor of Kamala and Joe Biden.”
He added, “For Joe Biden to make that statement — it’s really a disgrace,” highlighting the escalating tensions just six days before what could be one of the tightest elections in U.S. history.

Roku beat Wall Street expectations for its third quarter and said it will stop giving quarterly updates on the number of streaming households, and average revenue per user, starting in the first quarter of 2025.
“Since our IPO in 2017, the streaming industry has evolved meaningfully, with Americans now spending significantly more TV time streaming than watching cable. Our business has also grown and evolved, and we are now primarily focused on growing Platform revenue and profitability,” the company said in the Q3 shareholder letter.
This moves follows in the footsteps of Netflix, which set the same timeline.
For the third quarter, Roku reported total net revenue of $1.062 billion, up 16 percent year-over-year and its first time hitting $1 billion in revenue, gross profit of $480 million and a net loss of 6 cents per share. Analysts had expected a loss of 32 cents per share and revenue of $1.02 billion.

Kamala Harris is distancing herself today from Joe Biden’s “garbage” gaffe amid a very close election race, but the White House is insisting it’s all about the apostrophe.
“Just to clarify, he was not calling Trump supporters garbage,” White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said at the top of Wednesday briefing as the blast radius from Biden’s comment on a campaign Zoom call last night continued to grow and attract scorn from the likes of Donald Trump. “He does not view Trump supporters or anybody who supports Trump as garbage.”
For a politician who has made verbal stumbles part of his brand, Biden may have stepped over his preferred successor’s final pitch to voters by getting caught in the ‘he said, he really said’ quicksand.

The Streamable’s experts rank the top shows currently available to stream today.
Just about everything in the television and entertainment industries has changed in the past five to 10 years. Not too long ago, the month of September was focused almost exclusively on the return of football and the launch of a new, robust slate of TV shows. However, as cord-cutting rapidly decreased the number of Americans watching television in traditional ways, the release calendar has shifted. So while there are still a number of new and returning shows premiering on broadcast channels during the back half of the month, it is nowhere near the numbers of decades past.
Many of the best titles on TV have migrated from networks and cable channels to streaming in recent years, but with the non-standard release schedules, it can be tough to keep up with what is airing where and when, and which shows are actually worth watching.

The famously Republican former governor of California took to X on Wednesday morning to share a lengthy post about who he’s supporting in the high-stakes election.
Schwarzenegger began by explaining that he “hates” politics and doesn’t typically make the decision to endorse anyone in elections. He noted that he doesn’t really like either party right now and that while he’d like to tune out, he can’t right now.

“Because rejecting the results of an election is as un-American as it gets,” he said of Donald Trump’s refusal to admit that he lost the 2020 election. “To someone like me who talks to people all over the world and still knows America is the shining city on a hill, calling America [a] trash can for the world is so unpatriotic,...

On Tuesday night, Jimmy Kimmel boldly went where the LA Times, the Washington Post and USA Today have feared to go: The late-night host of ABC’s Jimmy Kimmel Live! delivered what amounted to a 19-minute anti-endorsement for Donald Trump.
Before launching a long series of clips using Trump’s own words, Kimmel said, “Tonight’s monologue is for Republicans” and asked his viewers to send the video to the Republicans in their lives.
“Ask them to watch this whole thing as a personal favor to you,” he said, explaining that most people don’t have time to watch every Trump speech or keep up with the former president’s social media outbursts. “But this is all I have to do,” he joked.
“We are very divided,” Kimmel said, “and not just because of Donald Trump, because of people like, if I’m being honest, me. I do a lot of mocking and belittling,...

Arnold Schwarzenegger wrote on X today that he has voted for Kamala Harris and Tim Walz, saying that he “will always be an American before I am a Republican.”
The former GOP California governor wrote, “Let me be honest with you: I don’t like either party right now. My Republicans have forgotten the beauty of the free market, driven up deficits, and rejected election results. Democrats aren’t any better at dealing with deficits, and I worry about their local policies hurting our cities with increased crime.
“It is probably not a surprise that I hate politics more than ever, which, if you are a normal person who isn’t addicted to this crap, you probably understand. I want to tune out.

With less than a week to go before the election, Donald Trump still hasn’t produced a concrete healthcare plan after teasing that he had “concepts” of one last month. Instead, one of his most prominent allies is wading into radioactive territory for Republicans: vowing to eliminate the Affordable Care Act.
On Monday, while speaking to attendees at a House campaign event in Pennsylvania, House Speaker Mike Johnson vowed that under his purview, Republicans would dismantle the healthcare regulatory state.

Eric Trump is once again sharing his thoughts on Meghan Markle and Prince Harry.
And it seems that Donald’s second son is still not a fan of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex.
Back in August, Eric commented on the controversy surrounding Harry’s visa.

Has it really gotten this bad? It appears as though Kamala Harris might be desperately begging Michelle Obama for help as there’s only one week left in the presidential election. Keep reading below for everything you need to know.
Kamala Harris Desperately Begs Michelle Obama For Help
When Kamala Harris jumped into the race after Joe Biden dropped out this summer, she was holding a comfortable lead ahead of Donald Trump up until a few short weeks ago.
That’s because it seems like she’s changed her tactics and instead of talking about policies and her plans as the potential first female president of the United States, Kamala began attacking Donald’s character instead.
This strategy clearly hasn’t worked as it looks like it’s going to be a very tight finish for both Kamala and Donald so much so that there are some people in the...

A lot of criticism has existed against The Blind Side, a film that elevates Sandra Bullock to an Oscar-winning actress while perpetuating harmful connotations of white savior trope through the veil of a morally uplifting story. After seeing several dozen reports and complaints, most of which originated after the subject of the film began to speak out against it, it begs the question:
Do we really need a white family to drive in on their station wagon and save the day for a future NFL star? Could Michael Oher have accomplished nothing if not for the Tuohy family? Would he have accomplished everything in spite of them?
The Blind Side [Credit: Warner Bros. Pictures]
While there is no refuting the events that truly occurred and later inspired the sports biopic, the harmful stereotype that The Blind Side promotes takes away from Sandra Bullock’s award-winning performance, leaving a bitter aftertaste in its place instead.

Kaori Oda completes her Underground Trilogy with “Underground” (Cenote and Aragane were the previous films) implementing, once more, an experimental approach that results in a series of impressive images.
Underground is screening at Tokyo International Film Festival
Kaori Oda essentially presents a series of vignettes connected through the concept of the “shadow” which begins to see fragmented memories that transcend time and place. There are however, three focal points, approaches if you prefer, that ‘drive’ the narrative here. The first one revolves around a young woman, played by Nao Yoshigai, who appears throughout the movie moving in various spaces, touching various things with her hands, in an element (the touching) that is quite central here.
The second one is a lecture of sorts about a series of events taking place in caves, with an elderly man being the narrator. The first concerns a gruesome tragedy that occurred 79 years ago, the day after U.

Jimmy Kimmel kicked off his latest episode of Jimmy Kimmel Live! with a message directly for moderate Republicans.
Ahead of the show, the host posted on social media, asking for people to “ask a Republican you love” to watch Wednesday night, as he has a “special monologue” for them.
“I assume you’re watching this because you care about the person who asked you to watch it, or maybe you’re just open-minded and not afraid to hear somebody who might not agree with you speak,” Kimmel said to kick off the show. “Either way, thank you for giving me 15 minutes of your life to talk about Donald Trump. Maybe you love him, and you’ll vote for him no matter what he says or what he does. Maybe you hate the other side so much you’ll look past anything he says or does. Or maybe there’s a...

One week out from Election Day, Jimmy Kimmel made an earnest plea to moderate Republicans Tuesday night to reconsider casting a vote for Donald Trump, using the former president’s words to make the case against his return to the White House.
The host of ABC’s “Jimmy Kimmel Live” devoted his opening monologue to revisiting a string of bizarre and ludicrous “words that came out of his mouth” over the past nine years. He urged viewers to weigh the 2024 presidential contest as being about “sanity and security and democracy.”
“Here’s the thing. It’s kind of funny — these silly, random rants of his – and it would be fine – if he was hosting a podcast, or selling knives at the Farmers Market. But he’s supposed to be leading us. People are listening to him. And the country is getting crazier. Because he makes it Ok to be nuts,...

Former President Donald Trump pleaded ignorance after garnering a wave of backlash over racist insults made by comedian Tony Hinchcliffe at his Madison Square Garden rally over the weekend. With a week to go until Election Day, Vice President Kamala Harris delivered her closing message at a massive rally of 75,000 people gathered at the Ellipse in Washington, D.C.

Kamala Harris drew a sharp contrast with Donald Trump as she made her closing argument against the backdrop of the White House on Tuesday, telling a massive crowd at the Ellipse that the election is a choice between a hopeful future, and chaos and division.
“These United States of America, we are not a vessel for the schemes of wannabe dictators,” Harris said. “The United States of America is the greatest idea of humanity ever devised, a nation big enough to encompass all our dreams, strong enough to withstand any fracture or fissure between us, and fearless enough to imagine a future of possibilities.”
Toward the end of the just over 30-minute speech, it was a tale of conflicting lower thirds, reflective of the divisions in the nation in this tight election. “Harris Delivers Closing Argument Of 2024 Election,” said CNN, while Fox proclaimed “Kamala Closes With Fear & Fascism.” MSNBC said...

Podcaster Tony Hinchcliffe’s hackish, hate-filled roast comedy set may have failed spectacularly at the rally for Donald Trump at Madison Square Garden on Sunday, but it would have killed at the Krusty Komedy Klassic.

Depending on who you ask, TikTok is either the biggest name in pop culture or a corrupted enterprise that harms the mental health of today’s youth. But at least one person associated with the app’s parent company is sitting pretty. According to a wealth tracker called the Hurun Rich List, ByteDance Co-Founder Zhang Yiming is the richest individual in China with an estimated net worth of $49.3 billion.
According to the BBC, the 41-year-old Yiming owns about 20% of Beijing-based ByteDance, which has enjoyed a string of strong financial results. Though its video-sharing subsidiary TikTok claims most of its headlines in the West, ByteDance operates several properties that thrive in the domestic Chinese and Southeast Asian markets. Longtime MSNBC anchor Andrea Mitchell is to shift from her daily anchor chair to a “broader role” within NBC News, it was announced Tuesday.
The departure from Andrea Mitchell Reports, which launched in 2008, was made by Mitchell on-air and via an internal memo from the NBC News Group. “As you may have seen, Andrea Mitchell shared today that after the inauguration in January, she has decided to shift from her daily anchoring duties for Andrea Mitchell Reports on MSNBC to a broader role with NBCU News Group,” the memo, signed by Rashida Jones, Rebecca Blumenstein, Janelle Rodriguez and Libby Leist, stated.

Just a few days back, I watched a futuristic post-apocalyptic Malayalam film, Gaganachari. This film was about the lead characters living in a bunker to avoid the wrath of troubled times. Even though we need to applaud the writer and the director for their originality, the story kind of lost the plot later on. Kadaisi Ulaga Por, directed by Hiphop Tamizha Adhi, is yet another futuristic story where the political situation of the world goes from bad to worse. The movie is very on the nose about how political dynamics work and sometimes goes over the top. Nevertheless, it is an engaging tale whose plot will be discussed below.

Her comments on Monday’s show went viral, as she spoke furiously against the “joke” featured speaker Tony Hinchcliffe made about Puerto Rico being a “floating island of garbage.” In a soundbite that went ’round the world, she said that Puerto Ricans like herself intended to take out the garbage on Election Day, with that garbage being Trump himself. On Tuesday, Hostin went even further with her remarks by labeling the entire rally a hate-fest. The rumors are true. After being spotted on the streets of Manhattan by a few intrepid TikTok users earlier this month, Billy Eichner is is resurrecting his “Billy on the Street” series in the final days of the 2024 presidential campaign.
“Loud White Men for Kamala,” a segment featuring Eichner and Will Ferrell, dropped on Tuesday morning across Eichner’s social feeds. The video shows the two comic actors, elevated voices in tow, encouraging New York pedestrians to vote and volunteer for Kamala Harris and Tim Walz. In short, per a note from Eichner’s publicist, to “do everything we possibly can to protect Americans from Donald Trump in these crucial final days of Early Voting and exactly one week before Election Day.”
If Eichner wanted maximum attention on the video, he certainly chose the right partner. Ferrell’s previous appearances on Billy on the Street have garnered more than 100 million views across social media.
