The CW recently picked up the US distribution rights to Australia’s Barons, a surfing drama set in the early 1970s, and will launch the series on Monday, May 29, 2023 at 9pm Et/Pt as part of their summer primetime lineup. Barons was created by Liz Doran, Michael Lawrence (Bra Boys) and John Molloy (The Gloaming) and aired in Australia in 2022.
Acclaimed surf director Taylor Steele – a filmmaker credited with helping to revolutionize the surf genre – was involved as an executive producer and directed a special surf unit charged with shooting scenes on the water. "There's a reason the call it the most dangerous sport on Earth." Saban Films has debuted one more official trailer for the inspiring true story Ride Like a Girl. We already posted two Australian trailers for this film last year, for its Australian release in the fall. This finally will open in this Us this March. The film tells the true story of Michelle Payne, the first female jockey to win the Melbourne Cup - horse-racing's toughest two-mile race - in 2015. Teresa Palmer stars as Michelle, also joined by Sam Neill, Sullivan Stapleton, Stevie Payne (as himself), Genevieve Morris, Sophia Forrest, Henry Nixon, Aaron Glenane, and Zara Zoe. This definitely does seem like it's worth catching up with when it releases in the Us next month. Here's the (third) official Us trailer (+ poster) for Rachel Griffiths' Ride Like a Girl, direct from YouTube: You can still watch the first...

This trailer has everything I could want. It’s a true story; it’s a sports story; it’s a story about a girl who perseveres and breaks through the glass ceiling in a sport that was dominated by men; there are horses. I love a good sports movie that will tug at my heartstrings, and this looks like it will absolutely do the job.
Ride Like a Girl is the inspiring true story of Michelle Payne, the first female jockey to not only compete in, but win, the Melbourne Cup. Sorry if that’s a spoiler, but if you’ve ever watched a movie like this, you probably could have figured it out. If they made a movie about it, then she probably won.
Payne is played by Teresa Palmer, who is beautiful and reminds me of Kristen Stewart, except she can act. She is joined by Sam Neill,...

"It's not just about speed, it's about patience." Transmission Films has debuted the first official trailer for an inspirational sports biopic from Australia titled Ride Like a Girl, which is also the feature directorial debut of actress Rachel Griffiths. The film tells the story of Michelle Payne, the first female jockey to win the Melbourne Cup - horse-racing's toughest two-mile race - back in 2015. Teresa Palmer stars as Michelle, with a wonderful cast including Sam Neill, Sullivan Stapleton, Stevie Payne (as himself), Genevieve Morris, Sophia Forrest, Henry Nixon, Aaron Glenane, and Zara Zoe. This looks great! Seems to be a bit better than your average sports biopic, with plenty of hardship and heart keeping her motivated as she fights her way into the male-dominated world of jockeys. Plus, Sam and Teresa are both wonderful to watch. Here's the first official trailer (+ poster) for Rachel Griffiths' Ride Like a Girl, direct...

While we wait for the first trailer for Aquaman to be released during Comic-Con next week, here's our first look at Djimon Hounsou's character in the film, The Fisherman King, who is one of the seven Kings of Atlantis. I've gotta say, that a pretty badass character design!
The seven Kings of Atlantis meet with Orm (Patrick Wilson) in the story when he shares his proposal to declare war on the surface world. When talking about The Fisherman King's people, producer Peter Safran tells EW:
"After the fall of Atlantis, some of the kingdoms evolved and some devolved,” explains . “This is one that evolved. This is a kingdom that’s primarily artistic and cerebral, with poets and philosophers."
The photo also includes Fisherman Queen (Natalia Safran), Princess (Sophia Forrest) and a royal guard.
The film stars Jason Momoa and he will be joined by Willem Dafoe as Vulko; Temuera Morrison...

Slowly but surely, we’re learning more about what to expect from the upcoming Aquaman solo film when it comes to how the major players will appear. I mean, Justice League gave us a good idea of what’s in store for Jason Momoa’s Arthur Curry and Amber Heard’s Mera’s respective fashions, but it wasn’t until last month that we knew what Nicole Kidman’s Queen Atlanna, Patrick Wilson’s Ocean Master and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II’s Black Manta looked like.
Fortunately, Entertainment Weekly is still laying some golden eggs, for they’ve now revealed the Fisherman King set to be played by none other than Djimon Hounsou. As you can tell from the image below, he’s looking a bit different in this production because his character is of a separate species entirely.
