Over the course of its 44 seasons, “Survivor” has hosted hundreds of immunity challenges where individual players could win the opportunity to save themselves from elimination at tribal council. Since 2000 when the reality TV show began, 15 different contestants have won at least four immunity challenges. However, five of those castaways prevailed five times, a record that has never been broken. In our “Survivor” gallery above, we spotlight those with the most immunity wins in a single season.
Despite four others winning just as many as he did, Colby Donaldson from Season 2 has bragging rights as not only the first player to win five times, but also the only one to do so consecutively. Like Kelly Wiglesworth before him, Colby played the game at a point in time where challenge wins were not held as in high regard as they were later, leaving him in runner-up position to a more social game-focused player in the final vote.

Unlike Big Brother, showmances aren’t a regularity in Survivor. Whereas there is a Big Brother showmance almost every season, the contestants in the other CBS reality competition series aren’t too focused on finding love. However, sometimes, the Survivor castaways can’t deny a romantic connection, and they pursue a relationship on the show. And the last time a showmance formed in Survivor was in season 37, aka Survivor: David vs. Goliath.

At the beginning of Survivor Season 37, producers placed Kara Kay and Dan Rengering on the Goliath tribe. Kara, a 30-year-old from San Diego, CA, worked as a realtor, and Dan, a 28-year-old from Gainesville, Fl, worked as a Swat officer. And immediately, the two castaways hit it off.
In the first episode, Dan called Kara his “kryptonite.

Over the years, “Survivor” viewers have grown accustomed to witnessing a unique treat in each season’s live finale. Self-described superfan Sia would attend the reunion shows in Hollywood and reward her favorite contestants with a special cash prize. Due to the pandemic, the show understandably scrapped all live aspects of its finale and instead opted to pre-tape the winner announcement and reunion on the island. That left fans wondering: what about Sia’s prize money?!
While it’s unknown if the nine-time Grammy nominee doled out any moolah after “Survivor 41” wrapped, she has now officially made her selection for “Survivor 42.” During a video posted on CBS’s social media, contestant Drea Wheeler has learned that she is the beneficiary of a cool 100,000 of Sia’s own money. Survivors, are you ready for this sweet love story? While most castaways expect grueling challenges, hidden idols and shocking tribal councils, there's one Survivor element many don't exactly prepare for: finding love. But that's exactly the outcome Sierra Dawn Anglim and Joe Anglim found after appearing on Survivor: Worlds Apart back in 2014. "I never in a million years thought I would find love on Survivor," Sierra exclusively shared with E! News. "Even being out there and competing and seeing him, I never ever would have thought he would be the love of my life. If I knew, I wouldn't have voted him out." For Joe, finding a significant other...

In a game of strategy and social bonds, challenge strength remains an important component in “Survivor” 20 years later. Opinion is split on how much value there is in Immunity Challenge wins, but more often than not, they have helped players beast their way to the end and even with the $1 million prize. Examples include Tom Westman (“Palau”), Rob Mariano (“Redemption Island”), Kim Spradlin (“One World”) and Mike Holloway (“Worlds Apart”).
Other challenge beasts are able to win a bunch of challenges but just come up short in the end. Colby Donaldson is one of the original cases of this, and we have seen players like Ozzy Lusth, Terry Deitz, Spencer Bledsoe and Brad Culpepper do the same, without claiming the title of Sole Survivor. Then there are players like Joe Anglim, who are just so good at challenges that they must be voted out the minute they lose an Immunity Challenge.

“Survivor” superfans are currently hyped for the upcoming all-winners season, but it’s not always the case that the most popular contestant of the season is the one who wins. In fact, the audience tends to fall in love with those who just come up short of the $1 million prize, often more so than the champion. Players like Rupert Boneham, Cirie Fields and Joe Anglim will probably never win “Survivor,” no matter how many times they come back and try. Their likability is a double-edged sword — they’re genial enough to be safe through several Tribal Councils but once it gets toward the end, they’re too big of a jury threat to win. As we prepare for “Survivor: Winners at War,” here’s the ranking of our 16 favorite lovable losers we hoped would make it onto an all-winner season someday.

With the dust now settled on “Survivor: Edge of Extinction,” it’s time to assess where Season 38 fits into the legacy of the long-running reality series. The Extinction Island twist was divisive from the start and those who didn’t care for it were enraged to see Chris Underwood, booted on Day 8, return a month later and win after having barely played the active game. Others liked how Extinction Island offered a second chance to players like Rick Devens, who certainly made the most of his return to the game. Vote in the poll below for where “Survivor: Edge of Extinction” places in your overall season rankings.

In recent years the “Survivor” reunion show has slowly been snuffed out before our eyes, with last week’s live “Edge of Extinction” chatfest running for less than 30 minutes. That’s a far cry from the early years of the reality TV show when finale night would conclude with a full one-hour reunion following the two-hour final episode. According to our recent poll, viewers are nearly unanimous that they want “Survivor” to bring back the hour-long reunion show, with 89% voting yes and 11% voting no. Do you agree or disagree with those poll results? Sound off down in the comments section.

“Survivor” fans are mixed on whether Chris Underwood really deserved to win “Edge of Extinction” during the exciting May 15 finale. On the one hand, this 25-year-old salesman made one of the boldest game moves in reality TV history when he gave up his immunity necklace so that he could take on front-runner Rick Devens head-to-head in the fire-making challenge. On the other hand, he only played 13 of the 39 days since he spent most of his time on Extinction Island. According to our recent poll results, 65% of fans voted that Chris winning was “not fair,” compared to 35% who said he deserved to join the “Survivor” winners list because he “played an amazing game.”

The clue was there all along. We “Survivor” fans should have known better. When Extinction Island dweller Chris Underwood (see above) got what I like to call “The Little Mermaid” edit on Season 38’s penultimate episode as he was seen fetchingly perched on a rock while surrounded by water as he read the letter of encouragement he wrote to himself, the jig was up.
The district sales manager from South Carolina had all ready won, despite being the third castaway voted off and only participating in the game for 13 days. Meanwhile, the puckishly amusing TV anchor man from Georgia Rick Devens, the first Extinction returnee who seemed to find an immunity idol every 2 minutes and crushed many an individual immunity challenge, let his guard down and allowed Chris to take control of events.

There are those “Survivor” fans whose dream is to compete in the game one day. Then there are those who, like me, would be satisfied to simply attend the taping of live portion of the finale and gawk at the players that they have been watching for weeks. Well, I can now cross that off my bucket list. I was part of the audience who participated in the three-hour wrap-up of Season 38, aka “Edge of Extinction.”
By now, you probably know that former Extinction Island dweller Chris Underwood somehow managed to win the title of Sole Survivor away from the favorite to take it all, idol-magnet Rick Devens, after only playing only 13 days. Controversial doesn’t even cover that outcome.
But that decision couldn’t spoil my opportunity to gaze upon such fan favorites as the season’s returning veteran players — Joe Anglim, Aubry Bracco, Kelley Wentworth and David Wright.

Talk about amazing. Joe Anglim, whose lush waterfall of hair puts Fabio to shame, has cut his cascading curls. “Survivor” 38’s returning player got clipped backstage on Wednesday’s season finale of “Edge of Extinction.”

It all started early in the three-hour show when host Jeff Probst kidded Joe, saying that maybe the reason he hadn’t won once after competing on three seasons was his follicles. That caused the “Chandelier” singer to tweet: “”Hey @janglim21 if you cut your hair off and donate it to a children’s cancer wig making charity I’ll give you 15k,...

After 39 days of outwitting, outplaying and outlasting, “Survivor” named the winner of its 38th season on Wednesday, May 15 during the three-hour finale event. (Read our minute-by-minute recap to see how it all went down.) The episode began with a monumental battle between the 11 voted-out castaways competing for a second chance at the million dollar prize, with 25-year-old salesman Chris Underwood prevailing. Chris then did the truly unthinkable by making it all the way to the final tribal council where the jury of 13 voted for him to win in a 9-4-0 vote over runner-up Gavin Whitson and third place finisher Julie Rosenberg. Did the right person win “Survivor: Edge of Extinction”? Vote in our poll below.

Are you ready for “the most unpredictable ‘Survivor’ finale ever”? Well, you better be, because that’s exactly how CBS is promoting its three-hour finale event on Wednesday, May 15. In the latest preview trailer (watch above), the only castaway who gets any major screen time is, of course, Rick Devens, the fan-favorite underdog who has an uphill climb to make it to the final tribal council. “I’m so excited!” Rick shouts about making it to the Final 5. “This is a million dollars. I’m trying everything I can.”

Even though Rick Devens leads Gold Derby’s predictions to win “Survivor: Edge of Extinction” on Wednesday, May 15, he still has insurmountable odds stacked against him. Aurora McCreary really, really wanted to be taken on the helicopter/resort reward in the 13th episode of “Survivor: Edge of Extinction,” but challenge winner Gavin Whitson instead invited along Victoria Baamonde and Lauren O’Connell. On episode 13 of “Survivor: Edge of Extinction,” two moments piqued my interest. One involved a spiritual exercise for those stranded on Extinction Island. The other was a hint to a puzzle solution that was sneakily revealed in one of host Jeff Probst‘s pronouncements during the challenge.
Let’s deal with self-penned pep talks first. In the past, “Survivor” contestants have received letters from home that often made them teary-eyed with joy, homesickness and relief.
But given that the “Edge of Extinction” twist is a sort of upside-down world where 11 rejected players have been kept stranded until they are marched into Tribal Councils to act as jury members, of course there would be some kind of variation on what is usually happy news.

In the penultimate episode of “Survivor: Edge of Extinction,” the near-unanimous plan was to vote out Rick Devens, but he ruined their easy vote when he won the immunity challenge. The castaways then set their sights on Julie Rosenberg, but Rick bluffed at tribal council that he was going to use his hidden idol on Julie, so Plan C was enacted. That’s when Aurora McCreary was voted out. “It was so predictable” that Rick was bluffing, Aurora proclaimed in her exit interview at the end of the 13th episode. “I can’t understand how anyone fell for that.”

“I took my eye off the prize,” confessed Ron Clark after being voted out of “Survivor: Edge of Extinction” during a memorable tribal council in which two advantages (a hidden idol and an extra vote) were played. Ron had concocted a diabolical plan in which he gifted his expired advantage menu to Rick Devens, hoping that it would convince him to trust him. Unfortunately for Ron, Rick later found a real immunity idol that ended up saving him from elimination. Scroll down to see Ron’s full “Survivor” exit interview from Season 38, Episode 12.

A certain phrase uttered after a “Survivor” contestant won a challenge sparked a collective “Huh?” heard round the world during this week’s episode of the CBS reality show. We saw Rick Devens complete a puzzle after a series of obstacles and won food and a spa getaway for his four-person team. When host Jeff Probst declared Rick the winner, he summoned a mighty roar and yelled out, “La Cheeserie!”

The result? Lots of viewers scratching their heads and wondering what the heck Devens was referencing. While it means “the cheese shop” in French, it refers to something different to those who live in the Washington, D.C. area — especially if they listen to the local sports podcast, “The Tony Kornheiser Show.” It comes from the name of a cheese counter found at Calvert Woodley liquor store.

After being voted out of the 11th episode of “Survivor: Edge of Extinction,” Dan “Wardog” DaSilva made the easy decision to take the torch and head to Extinction Island where he’ll soon have a chance of re-entering the game. Even though he was betrayed by new alliance member Ron Clark, Wardog explained in his exit interview at the end of the show that he had no hard feelings. “Ultimately it came down to Ron tonight. Ron did well, because I would have voted me out too,” Wardog readily admitted.

On Day 1 on Season 38 of “Survivor,” contestant Ron Clark (above) found an envelope labeled “Secret Advantage” under a crate of vegetables while aboard the boat transporting the players to their homes away from home. When he finally had a chance to sneak off by himself to read it, it turned out to be an advantage menu — just the second time such an item has appeared on the show.
There were three options to choose from if and when he decided to use it. Ron could steal the reward won by another tribe after a challenge; get an extra vote at Tribal Council; or he could get individual immunity, which acts like an hidden immunity idol that is played before the votes are read.
But Ron never got any benefit from his find since he had to use it before the third Tribal Council was held — and his Kama tribe never...

Following last week’s double eliminations of David Wright and Kelley Wentworth on “Survivor: Edge of Extinction,” only eight players still remained on the Vata tribe: Dan “Wardog” DaSilva, Victoria Baamonde, Ron Clark, Lauren O’Connell, Julie Rosenberg, Gavin Whitson, Aurora McCreary and Rick Devens. Did Wardog continue calling the shots at camp this week, or were the outcasts smart enough to come together to remove him from his throne?

“Survivor” is getting down to the nitty-gritty as only eight players remain in the proper game. After a post-merge of the Kama alliance getting picked off one by one, the Manu-turned-Lesu tribe finally lost some players last week and big ones, too — the exit of David Wright and Kelley Wentworth means there are no more returning players in the game. Looking at the edit, the Final 8 have had varying degrees of screen time through the first 10 hours of this season and we now have a pretty good sense of who probably won’t make it to the end and who has a plausible winner’s edit.

Will the next winner of “Survivor” be a 21-year-old college student from Waco, Texas?
According to Gold Derby’s “Edge of Extinction” racetrack odds, Lauren O’Connell is far ahead of the pack with leading 9/2 odds to win the $1 million check. It’s a huge show of support for the castaway who’s been on the bottom for most of the game — both physically and mentally. However, with a hidden immunity idol still in her pocket and the fact that she’s no longer tethered to huge targets like Kelley Wentworth (who was eliminated) and Dan “Wardog” DaSilva (who betrayed her), might Lauren sneak her way into the winner’s circle?

Apparently, “Survivor” loyalists still think Joey is amazing.
Of the four veteran players who find themselves in limbo on Extinction Island on Season 38, 42% of the reality show’s fans believe Joe Anglim is the likeliest returning castaway who could re-enter the game. That is what newbie Rick Devens had to do in order to re-join the players on the main island after the tribes merged. But these well-liked experienced “Survivors” basically had targets on their backs from the moment they landed on the beach — which is how each of the quartet got blindsided during tribal council.

They knew what they were getting into. They figured they would have huge targets on their backs. But the quartet of returning “Survivor” veterans — Aubry Bracco, Joe Anglim, David Wright and Kelley Wentworth — too often let their guard down when it came to the other less-experienced players, who have blindsided all four of them at tribal council after the 10th episode of Season 38.

“I’m impressed by the game move of the other players,” Kelley Wentworth admitted after being voted out of the 10th episode of “Survivor: Edge of Extinction” by one of her closest allies. “I’m pissed at myself because I had an idol in my pocket. I can’t believe I’m that person. So now I’m that dumb ‘Survivor’ player,” she harrumphed after taking the torch and heading off to Extinction Island. There has been growing speculation on websites such as Inside Survivor and Reality Blurred that “Survivor,” CBS’ landmark reality TV show, might celebrate its 20th anniversary as well as its 40th season next year by pitting an all-winners cast against one another. Not that it is a done deal. For one, host Jeff Probst expressed doubts whether such a super players line-up would work. As he told “Us Weekly” last year, “We can’t do all winners. As a producer, I would never suggest it. I would say it’s not a good idea.”
The problem? “We have 10 great winners that you’d want to see play again. We don’t have 20. We don’t have 18. Some of the winners don’t want to play again. Some of the greats are like, “No, we’re done.'”
The network, however, is completely on board. Says Probst, “They’re pitching me all the time.

With 10 people left in the proper “Survivor: Edge of Extinction” game, it’s time to check in on who is emerging as a threat to win the season. After a highly successful pre-merge, the original Kama tribe has been steadily bleeding members post-merge, including Joe Anglim, Eric Hafemann and Julia Carter. The tables have certainly turned as the unlucky original Manu tribe that became Lesu now finds itself in a power position. Should any of that group get to the end, they certainly have a compelling story to tell the jury about surviving the early hardships and a seemingly unbeatable Kama tribe.
Looking at the edit, each of those Lesu members is well-defined and we know their personal story and strategic acumen. The same cannot be said for much of the Kama tribe, though there are some notable exceptions. Here are the Top 5 “Survivor” 38 contestants we think have the best...

Getting to the Final 10 on “Survivor” is certainly a huge accomplishment, but that doesn’t necessarily guarantee you a strong, positive edit on the show. Some “Survivor: Edge of Extinction” contestants have learned this the hard way as their story has gone on the back-burner in favor of their fellow tribemates. That doesn’t mean a few of these unlucky players can’t emerge in the final episodes of the season, but their chances are considerably weaker than others whose stories have been explored throughout.

On the ninth episode of the 38th season of “Survivor,” host Jeff Probst dubbed the tribal council as one of the “craziest” ever as the remaining 11 castaways revealed secrets and shifted alliances in front of the cameras as paranoia and confusion reigned. That is until the majority decided to vote out Julia Carter, after her giggle outburst and acknowledgement that she was in league with veteran player Kelley Wentworth — maybe. Also not helping? Her shouting, “Shut up, Wardog!”
But I was less intrigued by the actual vote than returnee David Wright‘s new analogy about whether a player is a leader making big moves or a follower that will eventually be targeted. On the previous episode, David suggested that everyone has to decide if they want to be a pilot or a passenger in the game — with the pilots being winners.

“Tribal council was a mess!” Those were the first words Julia Carter said after being voted out of the ninth episode of “Survivor: Edge of Extinction.” Julia wasn’t exaggerating. The two-act tribal council was one of the “craziest” of all time, with all 11 remaining players scrambling around and huddling up in what was described by one castaway as a “live” tribal. In the end, Julia received a whopping nine votes, with the other two votes going to Kelley Wentworth (Julia’s vote) and David Wright (Aurora McCreary‘s vote).
