There were definitely some surprises in last week's first Top 24 eliminations. One week, Trevor Douglas was my pick to win the whole thing. The next week? Poof. Gone. One week, it seemed like everybody hated Maddie Walker for taking Rachael Hallack's place in the Top 24. The next week? Bam! Embraced by America despite an utterly mediocre performance. On Wednesday (March 11) night, "American Idol" is unveiling our Top 12 Finalists. How will the lucky singers be revealed? And what will we do to fill the hour? Click through and follow along! 8:00 p.m. Et. I feel pretty good about Qaasim Middleton's chances of making the Top 12, so his picture is accompanying my recap. I don't know if the judges are getting Wild Card picks or what, but by hook or by crook, I'm betting on Qaasim, at least for another week. 8:02 p.m. I don't have a clue what's happening tonight.

I put a picture of Trevor Douglas with my Wednesday night "American Idol" recap, because I figured that even with a bad performance last week, he was still likely to advance. I was wrong. American made some interesting choices when it came to the Boys but will voters have better or more predictable judgment when it comes to the Girls? Click through, follow along, comment below and let's find out! 8:01 p.m. Et. Ryan Seacrest is Really keeping things casual for these Detroit shows, eh? 8:02 p.m. Same deal as last night: Eight girls will be called to perform. The other four? Eliminated. Up first? Singer: Tyanna Jones Song: "Rockin' Robin" My Take: Easy call, America. But at least you got it right. With her infectious smile, infectious voice and infectious blue tinted hair, Tyanna is... ummm... infectious. This performance is just about having fun and, as a result,...

Ok. Maybe Wednesday night's horribly paced performance night for the Top 12 Boys took me a bit by surprise. Perhaps knowing what's coming for Thursday (February 26) night's Top 12 Girls performances will make it a bit easier to stomach. Or maybe not. 8:01 p.m. Et. "Let's get ready to party," Ryan Seacrest says aggressively. Singer: Lovey James Song: "Love Runs Out" My Take: The song starts too low and Lovey can't get her breath at all. As it gradually moves up, Lovey's at least in range, but she also become shout-y and perhaps too excited or emotional. There are good moments in the second half, but also bad moments when Lovey's trying to be heard over the band and failing. There's energy here, but I'm sure I'll have forgotten this performance in 55 minutes. Keith Urban, Jennifer Lopez and Harry Connick Jr Say: J-Lo thought it was awesome. Harry thought it was good.

Were you confused what Terrence Howard was talking about when he complained to Ryan Seacrest that they got rid of "Rachael"? Ryan Seacrest seemed to be. I can't be 100 percent sure, but I'm 99% sure that Terrence Howard was referring to the pre-Top 24 elimination of Rachael Hallack on last Wednesday's "American Idol" telecast. Rachael, who was initially headed for the Top 24, was forced into a sing-off with the previously eliminated Maddie Walker and the "Idol" judges backtracked and kept Maddie and ditched Rachael. Many fans thought it was a pretty dismal way for the judges to treat poor Rachel. Terrence Howard? Apparently displeased. Ryan Seacrest? Not able to remember that thing that happened. Is there a different Rachel that Terrence Howard could have been referring to? If not, I'm assuming that he was making a Rachael Hallack deep cut on the Oscar red carpet. And if that's true? That's awesome.
