Dev Patel is bringing forth one “gremlin of a movie” titled Monkey Man that he’s nurtured for a decade. Finally scheduled for release on April 5th, this film sees Patel not only in the lead but also as its writer and director. But who is this Monkey Man? Why Monkey? Patel finally reveals the mystery and talks in depth about the enigma that has kept everyone wondering. One hint, the film is based on a very ancient yet iconic figure from Indian mythology.
Dev Patel stars as an anonymous man known only as Kid in Monkey Man

Alice Diop’s Saint Omer brings the French filmmaker into the realm of fiction for the first time, but preserves her documentary respect for the evidence of the audience’s eyes. A sober, pared-down courtroom drama, Saint Omer initially makes little effort to comment on its action, at times feeling more like presentation than representation. The unadorned quality of the film can be laborious, particularly in the early stretches of the trial that’s at the center of the story, but Diop earns the effort she asks of her audience, methodically allowing a strange, intangible, but nevertheless palpable mix of emotions to emerge from the situation itself.
It’s certainly a choice, and the expression of an ethos, that Diop keeps the viewer locked in to repeating pairs of alternating camera angles for significant portions of the trial. We see the defendant, Laurence Coly (Guslagie Malanda), a Senegalese immigrant and...

After one of the most monumental phases of the MCU came to an end, only a handful of MCU shows or movies managed to impress the audience. Moon Knight has been one of them. Not only the show, but the character itself holds a lot of potential and is set to become an integral part of the Avengers in the future.
And now that Kevin Feige has also confirmed Moon Knight will be teaming up with the Avengers soon enough, fans are eagerly waiting. But what makes Moon Knight so impressive? The comics hold many such pieces of evidence, and one among them was single-handedly beating Kang!

The fictional underground fight club in Dev Patel’s erratic directorial debut feature Monkey Man looks like many others: a dilapidated space crowded with bodies thrusting fistfuls of cash in the air while hurling insults at their least favorite contender. No amount of harsh overhead lighting can shake the shadowy atmosphere of the venue, which is run by a slippery figure (Sharlto Copley), who handles rupees with unnerving greed. Here, in this claustrophobic environment, a young man regularly subjects himself to humiliating defeats.
The fighter, a scrawny guy whose swagger looks put-on, hides his face in a monkey mask. It is an ill-fitting piece of headwear that stays permanently askew. They call him the Kid (Patel) and it soon becomes clear that these beatings are part performance and part masochistic ritual. Memories of his dead mother haunt him, and early flashbacks reveal a tranquil childhood interrupted by gruesome violence. The...

Revenge, we’re constantly told, is a dish best served cold — unless you’re a modern genre-flick fanatic, in which case you need payback to be served piping hot and preferably moving at 120 mph. Monkey Man is, on the surface, a fairly simple tale of vengeance: Man has vendetta. Man infiltrates villain’s world with intent on procuring a pound (or two, or 50) of flesh. See Man punch. And kick. And stab, slice, gouge, grapple, and disembowel. It also a labor of love for its writer-director-producer-star Dev Patel, and one...

Jack Black’s Po will take on his most formidable villain yet, Viola Davis’ Chameleon, in Kung Fu Panda 4. The film will hit theaters in a few days but the critical reviews of the film are out after its premiere at the AMC 14 Theater at The Grove in L.A. The largely positive reviews prove that Po & team have managed to impress the viewers a fourth time. However, we believe that Jack Black may not return for the future Kung Fu Panda sequels.
Jack Black’s Po and Awkwafina’s Zhen in Kung Fu Panda 4
As believed earlier, the Furious Five have a limited role in the film. It might be the last time fans get to hear the voices of the likes of Angelina Jolie and Jackie Chan. The future sequels are likely to be voiced by a new young cast.

Actor Nikhilesh Rathore, who plays Bharata in the mythological show ‘Srimad Ramayana’, has talked about the roller-coaster experience of shooting in Chikuwadi forest in Umargam on the outskirts of Gujarat for the ongoing track of ‘Bharat Milap’ in the show.
Nikhilesh said: “It was an amazing experience to shoot in the real locations. But it will also be a lifetime memory. As it wasn’t as easy. The temperature during the day was very hot and sunny and on the other hand during the night it was very cold.”
“Since we are shooting for the mythological character I was in my skin with heavy metal jewellery. So it was difficult as they used to become hot in the sun and turned out to be a challenge for me. Walking barefoot for the scenes, while carrying a heavy Palki was another task. As the sand was burning and there were many small insects and thorns.

Updated: Nayanthara, star of Tamil-language film “Annapoorani” that was pulled from Netflix after complaints from Hindu groups, has broken her silence on the subject.
The actor began her post on X with the salutation “Jai Shri Ram,” meaning glory to Hindu god Rama, often used by Hindus to greet each other.
“I am writing this note with a heavy heart and a genuine desire to address the recent turn of events concerning our film, ‘Annapoorani.’ Crafting ‘Annapoorani’ was not just a cinematic endeavor but a heartfelt pursuit of inspiring resilience and instilling the spirit of never giving up. It aimed to mirror life’s journey, where we learn that obstacles can be overcome with sheer willpower,” Nayanthara wrote.
“In our sincere attempt to share a positive message, we may have inadvertently caused hurt. We did not expect the removal of a censored film, previously showcased in theatres, from the Ott [streaming] platform.

Ridley Scott has proven himself a master of the historical epic, with many fans eagerly awaiting the release of Napoleon starring Joaquin Phoenix and Vanessa Kirby. The film recently had its world premiere in Paris, and the first reactions to Napoleon have begun to emerge. We’ll update with more Napoleon reactions as they roll out.
Napoleon is a triumph that sees Ridley Scott at his best. The action set pieces are unforgiving and both Joaquin Phoenix and Vanessa Kirby disappear into their roles. The film is always at its peak when they're on screen together.

Ridley Scott prints the legend in #Napoleon/ #NapoleonMovie & it absolutely rips. A compelling love story between a man & his country, military career, wife & ego. Battle sequences are visceral, gory & gorgeously expansive in scale & scope. Phoenix is great, but Kirby transcends.

Everything about Doom Patrol Season 4 Episode 12 holds true to the style and messaging of the series.
For a run of forty-six episodes that time traveled, invaded the Afterlife, and rewrote reality multiple times, it is a surprisingly cohesive series that manages to maintain its focus on the team, its members, and the lessons they learn as they strive to be the heroes they never asked to be.
Cliff would call it f*ckin' corny, but it's genuinely hard to say goodbye to this ragtag misfit bunch of bad luck bags. And yet, letting them each find their peace feels incredibly right.
Of course, they have to get past Immortus/Isabel and the Butts, and, in typical Doomie fashion, the most absurd solution proves the key.
What does an egomaniacal spotlight hog like Isabel Feathers need? An ensemble chorus of choreography-obsessed theater-kid Butts, of course!

[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for the Doom Patrol series finale.] Well, that seemed like a definite ending to Doom Patrol… for some of the characters, at least. Showrunner Jeremy Carver takes us inside the finale below. When we spoke about the musical episode, you said that this finale is the end of a chapter. There are moments when heroes get tired of doing the right thing. Especially heroes who never planned to be heroes. And even heroes who thought for a long time that they were villains.
Doom Patrol Season 4 Episode 10 poses the question, "What if they all just give up at once?"
Rita, Cliff, Jane, and Larry are dying and content to run out the clock. Vic spends time with Silas and rethinks his hero persona, giving up on his attempt to be just-plain-Vic. And this leaves Rouge, the unlikeliest of heroes, alone to oppose Isabel/Immortus.
And that's no easy task.
Isabel has all the godhead powers of Immortus to serve the mega-egotistical and mercurial intentions and aspirations of Isabel Feathers.
I mean, it would've been a lot worse if Immortus had integrated with someone smarter, I guess. The Brain. Or Teddy the Butt.
The Butt-pocalypse future would be 100% guaranteed if Teddy had manifested Immortus's powers.

The Butt-pocalypse future would be 100% guaranteed if Teddy had manifested Immortus's powers.

You know a show's getting ready to bow out when the musical episode lands.
However, in this case, Doom Patrol Season 4 Episode 9 manages to impress with some catchy tunes while maintaining their trademark humor.
Power ballads interrupted by golden showers, ensemble dance pieces featuring sex ghosts, and seeing Larry and Rama in full tails just goes to show the Doom Patrol wouldn't know subtle if it came in riding a were-Butt.
The most compelling internal conflict is between Rouge's desire to let Rita be happy and her internal compass for truth.
In a perfect world, Bendy and Laura could meet again with their memories wiped, and no evidence would ever crop up to disturb their bestie-level friendship.
Unfortunately, Rouge insists on serving penance for the wrongs she's committed and is compelled to thwart Isabel/Immortus's intention to turn the world into its devoted zealots.

It's always hard to say goodbye to a show you've grown to love. It's even harder to imagine a television superteam landscape without the unpredictable, over-the-top, completely unapologetic hijinks of the Doom Patrol.
After three and a half seasons of flatulent donkeys, time travel, interdimensional shenanigans, sex ghosts, puppets, and freakin' were-butts, our misfit superbeings are wrapping up their adventures and facing off against their greatest challenge yet -- old age. Oh, and someone called Immortus.
Doom Patrol Season 4 returns on Max on October 12 with a double-decker wallop of a premiere. I'd recommend you prepare yourself, but there's really no way to prepare for what's coming.
When last we left our intrepid team, Rita, Jane, and Larry had lost their longevity. Rouge and Rita had returned to the Ant Farm and learned that Wally Sage was the puppetmaster behind the rise of Immortus.

CinemaDirector Shashank tells Tnm how he structured ‘Kousalya Supraja Rama’ while actors Krishna, Milana and Brinda talk about how they approached their respective roles.Kousalya Supraja Rama director Shashank/Facebook It has been nearly two weeks since the release of director Shashank’s Kousalya Supraja Rama, a well-made Kannada film whose protagonist is a privileged man grappling with the idea of patriarchy and progressive gender politics. The film is doing well at the box office, with family audiences showing up in droves to see a conventionally masculine ‘macho’ man Ram (Krishna) — who only knows how to be loved but never learned how to love — turn into a sensitive, caring person. Helping him in this transformation are his mother Kousalya (a superb Sudha Belavadi), the sprightly Shivani (Brinda Acharya) and rebellious Muthulakshmi (Milana Nagaraj), besides his tolerant cousin Santhu (Nagabhushana Ns). Kousalya is the pivot of the film. She’s a...

Rama (Pavel Tabakov) is a vampire.
In writer/director Victor Ginzburg’s adaptation of Russian novelist Viktor Pelevin’s Empire V, however, the term takes on a whole new meaning.
Mixing the action of Nightwatch with the philosophical underpinnings of The Matrix sequels, Empire V is an unconventional entry in the vampire subgenre. Working as both an introduction to a sprawling new mythology, as well as a satirical critique of (Russian) capitalism, the film has already been banned in its home country where it was due to premiere last year.
The film’s politics aren’t exclusive to Russia, though co-star Oxxxymiron (aka Miron Fedorov) and lead actor Vladimir Epifantsev have both been critical of Russian President Vladimir Putin, with the former very publicly denouncing the invasion of Ukraine. For the most part, however, Empire V isn’t only commenting on Russia; its political commentary is broadly critiquing how the...

Chamber pieces are a strange cinematic genre. As is often the case with one-location films, it might be tempting to say that the genre belongs more in theatre than it does cinema, but when you begin to measure the challenge of making a setting as interesting as the characters inhabiting it, a rather high bar is set. The filmmakers behind “Spaces Underlined” have grappled with that challenge three times over in an anthology of short stories, each a two-hander confined to different types of bedroom: first, a place of childhood tranquility, then a filthy college dormroom, and finally, a luxury hotel room. Does each tale meet the intimate challenge ahead of them? Despite some varying degrees of success, the answer is fortunately yes.

Mumbai, June 30 (Ians) Popular TV actor Vishal Kotian, who is best known for his role in ‘Akbar Ka Bal… Birbal’ and his participation in ‘Bigg Boss 15’, will be seen doing an action-packed cameo as Bajarnagi, an auto-rickshaw driver and a Hanuman bhakt in the drama series ‘Maitree’.
‘Maitree’ follows the journey of Maitree (Shrenu Parikh) and Nandini (Bhaweeka Chaudhary) who went from being soul sisters to bitter enemies. The show recently took a short six-month leap, where the audience saw Maitree’s first husband Saaransh (played by Kunal Karan Kapoor) coming back from the grave to wreak havoc in her life.

A lot of films have been at the centre of controversies in all the years I have been an observer of the film trade. Some, because they chose a subject where a certain community was at the centre of the story, some, while they were attempting a realistic film, and some others who loved a book penned by a renowned writer, decided it was worth retelling it as a film and getting brickbats in return.
Take, for instance, ‘Ramnagari’ by Ram Nagarkar. The film was made by the National Award-winning filmmaker Kantilal Rathod in 1982. Objections were raised against certain references in the film and the Censor Board stalled its release. The problem Shah Rukh Khan’s ‘Billu Barber’ faced some 27 years later was similar. The community known as Nayi or Hajam is called Barber in English.
In later years, these examples were followed by communities on a larger scale and somewhere along the way,...

“Adipurush,” director Om Raut’s retelling of Indian mythological epic “Ramayana,” emerged the fifth highest box office earner in the world in its opening weekend, despite some mixed reviews at home.
The film, which stars Prabhas (the Baahubali franchise), Kriti Sanon (“Bhediya”) and Saif Ali Khan (“Vikram Vedha”), opened on June 16 worldwide in Hindi, Telugu Tamil, Malayalam and Kannada-language versions. Raut’s storytelling, which uses modern techniques to retell the ancient epic, divided critics, but evidently had little dissuasive effect on audiences.
“Adipurush” scored a $2.5 million weekend in the U.S. and $30.6 million internationally, including India, making it the fifth highest weekend grosser after “The Flash,” “Transformers: Rise of the Beasts,” “Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse” and “Elemental,” according to numbers released by Comscore. It was the second highest Indian worldwide opener of the year after Shah Rukh Khan’s “Pathaan” and the fifth highest Indian opener of all time after “Baahubali 2: The Conclusion,...

Actor Manohar Pandey, who is best known for his work in films like ‘Gangubai Kathiawadi’ and ‘Super 30’, plays the role of Angad, son of Bali and the nephew of the Vanar king Sugriv in Om Raut’s mythological film ‘Adipurush’.
The actor initially faced difficulty because the scenes were being shot through motion capture.
Speaking of the difficulties he faced whilst playing Angad, Manohar said: “Yes, it was a big challenge because first time in India I think motion capture has been done by director Om Raut and I am part of it, so I didn’t know about how motion capture is going to be shot. We did intense workshops before shooting to understand the technicalities of motion capture.”
He continued: “I worked on how Angad will walk and behave. Ashish Pathode guided and trained to approach the character of Angad differently because in motion capture while performing...

NewsAdipurush, an adaptation of the Hindu epic Ramayana, was released in theatres on Friday, June 16.The hero worship of film actors is not uncommon in southern states. This would often translate into toxic online fan wars and orchestrated troll attacks, with the fans refusing to tolerate any criticism of their favourite star or their movie. This toxic behaviour, however, usually remains in the realm of the virtual world. But things turned violent on Friday, June 16, when a filmgoer was physically assaulted by actor Prabhas’s fans for stating that his latest release Adipurush was awful. The unsuspecting movie watcher, who is yet to be identified, was sharing his opinion about the movie with the YouTube content creators waiting outside the Prasads multiplex in Hyderabad, to report on the first-day audience response to the big-budget film. But as the man stated that the visual effects in the film were terrible and...

Kathmandu, June 15 (Ians) After placing a map of “Greater Nepal” at his office in retaliation at the “Akhand Bharat” mural in the new Indian Parliament building, Kathmandu Metropolitan City Mayor Balen Shah on Thursday announced that no Indian movie will be allowed to be exhibited within the capital territory if South Indian movie “Adipurush” does not correct the “mistake” about the birthplace of Sita.
Nepal’s Censor Board also decided to hold back permission to the upcoming Indian epic mythological film, based on the Hindu epic “Ramayana”, for the same reason.
In “Adipurush”, it is mentioned that “Sita is the daughter of India”, Shah said in a tweet on Thursday, adding that until this mistake will not be corrected in India and Nepal, no Indian movie will be allowed to be shown within the Kathmandu metropolitan city limit.
The film is written and directed by Om Raut and produced by T-Series and Retrophiles.

GenderThis isn’t the first time a woman actor has faced objections for behaving in a way that is deemed ‘unbecoming’ of a woman playing the role of Sita. Nayanthara’s casting as Sita in the 2011 film ‘Sri Rama Rajyam’ had faced similar objections. Om Raut / InstagramAsking to set aside a seat for Hanuman in theatres, repeatedly proclaiming ‘Jai Shri Ram’ to promote their film, and inviting a Brahmin seer to their film’s promotional events — none of these saved the team of Adipurush, an upcoming adaptation of Ramayana starring Prabhas and Kriti Sanon, from attracting the wrath of Hindu religious leaders and right-wing groups. A video showing the film’s director Om Raut giving what seems to be a friendly peck on the cheek to Kriti (who plays Sita in his film) at the Venkateswara temple in Tirupati, has sparked right-wing outrage. The head priest at Telangana's Chilkur Balaji temple,...

Entertainment‘Adipurush’ is being bankrolled by Bhushan Kumar and Krishan Kumar of T-series, Raut, Prasad Sutar, and Rajesh Nair of Retrophiles. In an unprecedented move, the team of Adipurush, as part of its promotional strategy, has announced that theatres screening the movie will leave a seat vacant in honour of lord Hanuman. “It is our belief that Hanuman goes wherever Ramayanam plays. To honour this belief, a seat will be reserved for Hanuman during the screening of Adipurush in which Prabhas plays the role of Rama,” the team said on Monday June 5. However, confusion prevailed after the production house deleted the announcement from their Twitter account. Tnm reached out to the team to confirm that theatres will indeed be reserving a seat, symbolically for Hanuman to occupy. “The announcement had to be deleted because director Om Raut will be making the official announcement. Due to a miscommunication, the announcement was made without consulting him,...
