Nearly three and a half years have gone by since it was announced that director André Øvredal and producer Guillermo del Toro were re-teaming for a sequel to their cinematic adaptation of Alvin Schwartz’s Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark series of books. A few months ago, Øvredal confirmed that Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark 2 was still in the works and a script has been written, the project had just been slowed down by the pandemic, the making of his Dracula movie The Last Voyage of the Demeter, and this year’s Hollywood strikes. But now Collider has shared a quote from the producers that indicates there might be some kind of trouble behind the scenes…
The screenplay for Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark 2 has been written by the first film’s writers Dan Hageman and Kevin Hageman, working from a story crafted by del Toro.

Nearly three and a half years have gone by since it was announced that director André Øvredal and producer Guillermo del Toro were re-teaming for a sequel to their cinematic adaptation of Alvin Schwartz’s Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark series of books… but don’t let the extended silence stir up any fears that Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark 2 has been cancelled. While speaking with IGN, Øvredal – whose Dracula movie The Last Voyage of the Demeter reaches theatres on August 11th – confirmed that the sequel is still in development!
Øvredal said, “We have a story. We have a script. We’ve been working on the script as late as last year and even slightly into this year. The process obviously stopped with the strike – but it’s alive, for sure. Covid and then [The Last Voyage of the Demeter] eating up two years of...

Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark capitalized last year on the classic 1980s literary horror franchise responsible for generational childhood trauma with a feature film that—having earned $105.8 million worldwide—may not have set the box office scene on fire, but certainly provided a big enough bang for its studio’s budgetary buck. Consequently, sequel plans are now moving forward.
The creative band is getting back together for the Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark sequel movie, with director André Øvredal and writers Dan Hageman and Kevin Hageman set to return. Additionally, Guillermo del Toro—who worked on the first film’s screenplay after vacating the director’s chair—will return to develop the story on which the script will be based. The untitled sequel will be co-financed by Paramount Pictures and eOne, with the former handling distribution. This is a slight pipeline change from the previous movie,...

“We tell ourselves stories in order to live,” a wise woman once said. And sometimes, we tell others stories to scare the living shit out of them. Like that one about the kid who keeps beating on a scarecrow in a cornfield — until one night, the scarecrow decides to beat back. Or the urban legend about the girl who found a pimple, only it wasn’t exactly a pimple (think spiders and eggs). Or the yarn about the Jangling Man, who … well, maybe you shouldn’t ask about him. Some stories are best left untold.

For the better part of a decade, The Conjuring films have convinced a new generation that the ‘70s were the spookiest period of the 20th century. But with the arrival of Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark, a strong case is being made for the era before that—back when Nixon was first elected to the White House and the most nightmarish thing might’ve been how so few seemed to mind sending their youth to die by the thousands in Southeast Asia.
Leaning heavily into its 1968 setting, Scary Stories coyly dips its toe into a nostalgic stew of simpler times while also implicitly embracing the true horror of that America in a way even Quentin Tarantino turns a blind eye to. And in doing so,...

If you spent nights as a kid reading Alvin Schwartz's Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark series, then Guillermo del Toro has some good news for you: he's bringing the iconic tales to the big screen, and he also gave us an exclusive look at one of the most horrifying scenes in the film.
In the clip above, we watch as Ruth (Natalie Ganzhorn), one of the teenagers who's unlucky enough to stumble upon a cursed book of stories in their town, realizes that something far more disgusting than a pimple is growing on her cheek. The scene is based on Schwartz's "The Red Spot," and we're already feeling nauseous.
"'The Red Spot' is one of those stories that everybody tells, and everyone knows a friend of a friend who has a sister that this happened to," del Toro, who's producing the film, says in the featurette. "[It's] one...

Lana del Rey covers Donovan's "Season of the Witch" to herald Guillermo del Toro's Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark.
Some lullabyes aren't meant to help you fall asleep. Lana Del Rey is casting a spell for Guillermo del Toro’s upcoming Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark. The Grammy-nominated "Born to Die" singer covered Donovan’s 1966 hit “Season of the Witch” for the horror anthology film. The song will debut on August 9 to coincide with the movie, but a portion of the song is featured in the new trailer.
Del Rey came out of the broom closet a long time ago. In February 2017 she invited her 6.22 million Twitter followers to take part in a mass binding ritual against Donald Trump. A few years before that a 19-year-old fan who felt a deep “spiritual connection” with del Rey broke into her home to steal...

Earlier this week we were treated to a second wonderfully creepy trailer for producer Guillermo del Toro and director André Øvredal‘s film adaptation of the horror book series, Scary Stories To Tell In The Dark.
I’ve liked what I’ve seen from this movie so far. It looks like it does a fantastic job honoring the stories and creepy-ass art style of the books. Those books are disturbing as hell! If you’ve read the stories, then you know what I’m talking about. I love those books, though. I grew up with them. Those books were my gateway drug to the dark and twisted and led me down the path of finding more stories like them.
Del Toro and Øvredal recently showed off some clips from the film and talked about it during a Q&A panel. During that presentation they explained that the movie is an “Amblin-esque” family horror film.

“Do you want to see a haunted house.” I’m going to with No! on this one.
CBS Films, Lionsgate and eOne has released a brand new trailer for Scary Stories To Tell In The Dark. I can’t wait for this one!
It’s from the director of the 2010 Norwegian dark fantasy film Troll Hunter, André Øvredal.
In his review Travis Keune wrote, “Director Andre Ovredal wisely keeps keep the creatures hidden in the shadows, providing only quick glimpses, mostly through night-vision cameras. It’s a smart technique and really the only way this movie would work since these monsters are so goofy-looking (think Where the Wild Things Are crossed with Ed ‘Big Daddy’ Roth) that lingering on them would dilute the substantial tension that’s generated. The concept is so preposterous and the creature design so loony-tunes that it’s somewhat miraculous what Ovredal has pulled off here...

If you’re excited about Guillermo del Toro’s film adaptation of the classic horror book series, Scary Stories To Tell In The Dark, I’ve got a new trailer here for you to watch today filled with all kinds of horrific and ghoulish goodies!
I really like what I’ve seen from this movie so far. The setting, the tone, the visual designs of the creatures… it all very much feels like the disturbing stories that I grew up reading. It just looks like it’s going to be a fun and playful horror movie.
It’s was directed by André Øvredal, who is best known for making The Autopsy of Jane Doe and Trollhunters and this is a new synopsis that was released:

The Jangly Man is coming, a creepy crawly undead humanoid with flailing, contorted limbs as seen in horrific detail in the latest trailer for “Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark.” And that’s not the only monster, either.
In the film, which is produced by Guillermo del Toro based on the classic young adult book series by Alvin Schwartz, a group of kids find a book of spooky stories in a haunted house, and soon, every story in the book comes to life and comes after someone they know.
“Some people believe if we repeat stories often enough, they become real,” the lead character, played by Zoe Margaret Colletti, says in the film. “They make us who we are, and that can be scary.”

Guillermo del Toro delved deep into his past Thursday to explain the profound hold that “Scary Stories in the Dark” has on him.
“I basically was roaming through a bookstore, in San Antonio, Texas,” he said at a Hollywood event to launch the movie’s teaser trailer. “I was in my early teens, and I came upon this volume that had an irresistible title: ‘Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark.’ The cover illustration was so creepy, and I started browsing it, and the illustrations got me first, but Alvin Schwartz’s retelling of the tales was incredibly efficient and lean and mean.”
Del Toro, who’s now 54, is a producer on “Scary Stories in the Dark.” He recalled that “Scary Stories” came back into his life in the aftermath of the 1997 kidnapping of his father in Mexico. James Cameron paid the $1 million ransom and the event left del Toro in tough financial shape.

In director André Øvredal and producer Guillermo del Toro’s “Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark,” “you don’t read the book. The book reads you.”
The latest horror film from the mind of del Toro is based on a trilogy of children’s horror books, the first published in 1981, written by Alvin Schwartz and illustrated by Stephen Gammell. Each one is a collection of over two dozen horror stories, and the new film draws inspiration from all of them.
During the Super Bowl, we got brief teases for moments based on the stories “The Big Toe,” “Jangly Man,” “Pale Lady” and “The Red Spot.” Here’s the full synopsis:

The first trailer for “Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark” was released on Thursday, giving fans an extended look at the upcoming film after unveiling a few macabre teasers during the Super Bowl earlier this year.
The film follows a group of teenagers as they solve a string of mysterious murders. In 1968, the teenagers discover a book full of scary stories inside a mansion belonging to the Bellows family, which has loomed large in small town of Mill Valley for generations. A young girl named Sarah, the author of the mysterious book, has filled the pages with terrible secrets. However, as it’s revealed in the first trailer you don’t read Sarah’s book, “the book reads you!”

“You don’t read the book. The book reads you.”
One of my most anticipated films this year is producer Guillermo del Toro’s feature film adaptation of the classic horror anthology book series, Scary Stories To Tell In The Dark. I’m so ready to watch this movie!
I grew up on these books. They scared the shit out of me and I’m hoping that this movie rekindles that same fear. One of the things that I’ve appreciated from what I’ve seen from the film so far is that it brings that creepy-ass art style and designs from the Alvin Schwartz books to life! The movie certainly looks like it’s going to traumatize kids!
The movie is being directed by André Øvredal, who is best known for making The Autopsy of Jane Doe and Trollhunters and this is a new synopsis that was released:

Out of all the short stories in Alvin Schwartz and Stephen Gammell's Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark book series, "The Red Spot" (which was published in the third installment of the series) is likely the creepiest tale for anyone with arachnophobia.
