At winning football games, the team dumps Gatorade on the coach. At "Evil Dead" movie wraps, it only makes sense that the stars dump buckets of fake blood on the director. It sounds like that's pretty much what went down on the set of "Evil Dead Rise," the latest installment of the Sam Raimi-created horror franchise that's known for absolutely drenching its stars in the syrupy red stuff. Director Lee Cronin spoke to Empire about the upcoming film's impressive amount of fake blood, and revealed that even he ended up on the receiving end of some splatter.
"We used a hell of a lot of it," Cronin said about the prop blood that cakes the Los Angeles apartment where Beth (Lily Sullivan) and her nieces and nephews face off against Beth's demon-possessed sister Ellie (Alyssa Sutherland). The red-band trailer for the film dropped this week and caused quite a splash in horror-loving circles,...

The "Evil Dead" franchise has accrued a lot of famous objects over the years, and the upcoming "Evil Dead Rise" looks like it's bringing back all of the classics. We already knew that "Evil Dead Rise" was going to focus heavily on the Necronomicon Ex Mortis -- the Book of the Dead -- and the red-band trailer featured a great glimpse of new hero Beth (Lily Sullivan) wielding a bloody chainsaw, but we now have evidence of a boomstick, too! Empire Magazine revealed an image of Beth with a double-barrel shotgun alongside their interview with director Lee Cronin back in December, and it looks perfect. The movie looks like it's tonally right between the original "The Evil Dead" from 1981 and its 2013 reboot, and having all of the tools of the Deadite-trashing trade around is enough to make any fan start drooling. Seriously, can't it be April already?

Evil Dead Rise, the 2023 entry in the Evil Dead franchise, just released a bloody and terrifying two-minute trailer that’s everything you’d want or expect from an Evil Dead project. A chainsaw’s involved, of course, but that seems tame compared to what else the trailer teases is in store for horror fans.
Vikings‘ Alyssa Sutherland stars along with Lily Sullivan (I Met a Girl), Morgan Davies (Storm Boy), Gabrielle Echols (Reminiscence), and newcomer Nell Fisher.
Lee Cronin (The Hole in the Ground) wrote and directed the grisly horror film. Cronin’s behind-the-scenes team includes director of photography Dave Garbett, production designer Nick Bassett, editor Bryan Shaw, and costume designer Sarah Voon. Stephen McKeon wrote the score.
Evil Dead Rise has Evil Dead creator Sam Raimi and “Ash” himself, Bruce Campbell, involved as executive producers. Ash vs Evil Dead‘s Rob Tapert produces. Additional executive producers include John Keville,...

Rejoice, "Evil Dead" fans, as the first trailer for the highly anticipated "Evil Dead Rise" has hit the web. This series has never missed the mark, which puts a lot of pressure on "The Hole in the Ground" director Lee Cronin to get it right.
It can be difficult for some horror folk to accept new blood stepping into the shoes of a franchise that had been defined by a creative team for so long, but "Evil Dead" has proved that it can sustain itself. For over 30 years, director Sam Raimi, producer Robert Tapert, and the very groovy Chin himself, Bruce Campbell, were the DNA behind one of the most influential horror films of all time. The trio returned with over three excellent seasons of the television series "Ash vs. Evil Dead," but in the meantime, "Don't Breathe" director Fede Álvarez blessed us with his 2013 reimagining of the original, which...

Hail, hail! The "Evil Dead" franchise is back with a new feature film, to the feverish excitement of fans worldwide. A fresh trailer for the franchise's fifth entry dropped this week and "Evil Dead Rise" appears to be everything a horror head could hope for. Check it out here, with a fair warning for gore.
"Witness the mother of all evil," a tagline reads, in "Evil Dead Rise," the latest installment in the Sam Raimi-borne horror franchise. As with most "Dead" stories, this one centers around people who stumble upon an ancient book of the dead -- the Necronomicon -- and unwelcome houseguests emerging from it. Ever raising the stakes (and buckets of blood) in each entry, this "Evil Dead" throws children into the mix, the youngest a cherubic girl (Nell Fisher) who can't be older than 10, who gets to hear things like "Mommy's with the maggots now."

"Evil Dead Rise." That's it ... that's the introduction.
Seriously, do I need to say more? The first trailer for the highly-anticipated return to the "Evil Dead" franchise has arrived, and it has exceeded even my wildest expectations. If you thought that writer-director Lee Cronin was exaggerating the amount of blood that would be in the film, consider yourself proven wrong. Seriously, it's a good thing everyone that follows the franchise's Twitter account voted for the release of the red-band trailer instead of the green-band one.
"Evil Dead Rise" has been a long, long time coming, and its recently-released trailer gives us so much to discuss. Was that window exploding with blood a "Shining" reference? Does this dire and bleak atmosphere feel more similar to the 1981 classic or its 2013 continuation? Is the influence of the Necronomicon really going to take over an apartment complex ala "Demons 2?" Wait, speaking of which, are...

The first teaser trailers for “Evil Dead Rise” show off a very scary mother figure, which is great considering we are approaching the 10-year anniversary of Andrés Muschietti’s “Mama.”
Warner Bros. Discovery dropped two trailers this morning. The age-restricted red-band trailer features the tagline “Evil Comes Home” and is focused on mood, menace and onscreen carnage. The green-band teaser, which you can watch above, features a tagline “Witness the Rise of the Mother of All Evil” and is more plot-focused and emphasizes bloodless shocks and gooey menace. It’s no slouch in the intensity department, but it’s arguably safe to play ahead of Universal’s PG-13-rated “M3GAN,” which premieres Thursday night.
Warner Bros. Discovery’s official synopsis states that this fifth “Evil Dead” film concerns a road-weary traveler, Beth (Lily Sullivan) who visits her older sister Ellie (Alyssa Sutherland) who is raising three kids on her own in a cramped L.

"You don't look so good, Mom." "Nothing a big old kiss from you won't fix." Warner Bros has unveiled the first official trailer for Evil Dead Rise, the fifth movie in the Evil Dead franchise started by horror maestro Sam Raimi. This is a follow-up to the most recent reinvention of the horror franchise, Evil Dead from 2013, though it's not really connected - another new story. The horror film follows two sisters trying to survive and save their family from demonic creatures known as Deadites. A twisted tale of two estranged sisters whose reunion is cut short by the rise of flesh-possessing demons, thrusting them into a primal battle for survival as they face the most nightmarish version of family imaginable. The film stars Alyssa Sutherland as Ellie, with Lily Sullivan, Gabrielle Echols, Morgan Davies, Nell Fisher, and Mia Challis. Wow this looks absolutely gnarly and disgusting as hell and wicked crazy!

The “Evil Dead” franchise has risen, and it’s looking positively groovy. The official trailer for “Evil Dead Rise,” the fifth installment in the cult classic horror film franchise launched by Sam Raimi, was released by Warner Bros. on Wednesday.
The film is directed by Lee Cronin, best known for his 2019 horror film “The Hole in the Ground,” and stars Alyssa Sutherland and Lily Sullivan as Ellie and Beth, two sisters who reunite after years apart when Beth visits Ellie and her three children in Los Angeles. While exploring Ellie’s apartment building, the women discover the Naturom Demonto, or the “Book of the Dead” from the other films, which summons demons known as Deadites to Earth when passages are read. This being an “Evil Dead” film, Ellie and Beth, of course, read from the book, and the Deadites rise. When one of them possesses Ellie, Beth ends up in...

In the official trailer for “Evil Dead Rise,” the next film in the long-running horror franchise started by director Sam Raimi, two sisters named Beth and Ellie seek to protect their family when hordes of Deadites flock Ellie’s apartment building.
Alyssa Sutherland plays older sister Ellie, who raises three children on her own in a cramped Los Angeles apartment, and Lily Sullivan plays Beth, who takes a road trip to reunite with her sister. The visit is interrupted by the discovery of a mysterious book that summons the Deadites, forcing the two to defend themselves and the children.
Unlike the original “Evil Dead” movies, this follow-up does not include Bruce Campbell’s horror icon Ash Williams. However, Campbell executive produces alongside Raimi and Robert G. Tapert.
Lee Cronin wrote the “Evil Dead Rise” screenplay and directs, coming off the critical success of his 2019 directorial debut “The Hole in the Ground.

For the first time in nearly a decade, a new "Evil Dead" movie is on the way. "Evil Dead Rise" officially has a first trailer, which means it's a real movie, which is still hard to believe after years of sequel discussions and rumors. Writer-director Lee Cronin has assured fans that the film will exist in the same universe as the original Sam Raimi classic, featuring buckets of blood and plenty of Deadites — despite the fact that, according to early synopsis from Deadline, it's moving the action from a secluded cabin setting to a Los Angeles apartment.
Ahead of the trailer's release, word was that "Evil Dead Rise" wouldn't feature some of the franchise fixtures Raimi fans know and love, like Bruce Campbell's Ash or Raimi himself behind the camera. But both Raimi and Campbell are producing along with Ghost House Pictures co-founder Rob Tapert, meaning the new flick...

Happy New Year, everyone! How does our first official teaser for the highly-anticipated "Evil Dead Rise" sound to kick off 2023? We certainly hope you're ready because Warner Bros. has announced that the first full-length trailer for the film will be released tomorrow via its first-look footage. In this new teaser, we see a young girl (Nell Fisher) looking through an apartment door peephole, saying that her mother Ellie (Alyssa Sutherland) doesn't look good. Truth be told, she doesn't –- as we saw previously in a still released on Halloween, she looks to be fully and bloodily possessed by the spirits of the Necronomicon.
If this 20-second teaser was enough to get us spooked, then we can't wait to see what kind of twisted stuff the full trailer will have. We especially can't wait to see this trailer play on a big screen –- "Evil Dead Rise" was intended to be an HBO Max original film,...

To begin with a fun, personal anecdote:
This author was exiting a screening in Hollywood, California when he spotted the preeminent film critic Leonard Maltin in the halls of the theater. He was idly looking at a pair of posters for upcoming film releases. The poster for Fede Álvarez's them-upcoming 2013 film "Evil Dead" was displayed on the wall next to Andy Fickman's upcoming 2012 family comedy "Parental Guidance," starring Billy Crystal and Bette Midler. The tagline for "Parental Guidance" was a whimsical "Here come the grandparents, there go the rules." Meanwhile, "Evil Dead" sported the bold assertion "The Most Terrifying Film You Will Ever Experience." Maltin, tapping into his inner bon vivant, proposed that the two films ought to swap taglines. It would certainly apply, he felt, to "Parental Guidance."

Just what is it that makes an "Evil Dead" movie an "Evil Dead" movie? There's a relative amount of flexibility when it comes to tone. "Evil Dead II," aka "Evil Dead 2: Dead by Dawn," is like a very bloody and very surreal Three Stooges comedy, where "Evil Dead" and "The Evil Dead" (Sam Raimi's original 1981 film) try to play things with a straight face, their over-the-top violence, and, in the latter's case, accidental camp aside. And let's not forget "Army of Darkness," the PG-13 medieval sequel that dials down the gore while upping the slapstick to "Looney Tunes" levels.
