Forget the fear of flying. In the upcoming six-episode thriller “Nightsleeper,” the real danger awaits on a train travelling from Glasgow to London.
“When we were developing the show, we got all these experts in one room and asked: ‘How do you hack a train?’ An hour later, they said: ‘This is scary. We could easily do it now, between ourselves’,” says writer Nick Leather.
“We will do for trains what ‘Jaws’ did for sharks.”
Produced by Fremantle’s Euston Films and set to premiere on BBC One and BBC iPlayer in early 2024, “Nightsleeper” is directed by Jamie Magnus Stone and John Hayes.
While Abby Aysgarth (Alexandra Roach) at the U..K’s National Cyber Security Centre is trying her best to stop the train, some remaining passengers also join forces – including off-duty cop Joe Roag (“Peaky Blinders” actor Joe Cole). But they only have six hours and one satellite phone.

The story is about the hacking of a sleeper train travelling from Glasgow to London, and a government agency’s frantic efforts to intervene in the rapidly-escalating events onboard. Can two people who’ve never met, one on the train and one not, work together to save the lives of its disparate group of passengers as the Heart of Britain overnight service hurtles towards what might quite literally be its final destination?
Alexandra Roach (The Light in the Hall) and Joe Cole (Gangs of London) lead the cast of the suspense thriller, written by BAFTA award-winning writer Nick Leather (Murdered For Being Different) from Fremantle’s Euston Films, coming to BBC One and BBC iPlayer in early 2024.

Not sleeping in the is a big problem for many people but if they had a best friend who is also up with them, could it be really fun. The new Apple TV+ series Still Up answers that question through a sweet story about two friends Lisa and Danny suffering from insomnia, who are connected mostly through video calls.
Created by Steve Burge and Natalie Walter, Still Up has a small cast and it does a good job of focusing on the important storylines through them while also establishing their eccentricities and wants in the story seamlessly. We never feel that any of the characters in the series are out of place or forced in the story.

Still Up looks set to be one of the best comedies of the year.
Apple TV+ shared the official trailer for the new comedy series starring Antonia Thomas and Craig Roberts.
Still Up is an almost romantic comedy set in the after-hours world of insomniacs Danny (Roberts) and Lisa (Thomas), who have no secrets except their feelings for each other.
The trailer zeroes Danny and Lisa's bond. They struggle to sleep and bond as they help each other through the night.
Insomnia isn't easy to handle, so having someone on the other end of a phone with you throughout that difficult time must be comforting.
While Danny and Lisa believe their bond to be platonic, it seems romantic feelings are simmering beneath the surface between them.
The logline does reveal they have no secrets except their feelings for each other, so there's a good chance the eight-part comedy will chart that throughout.

Imagine a world where you could not only find your perfect match, but you'd also be scientifically and genetically proven to fall in love with them (and vice versa), simply by sending off a DNA sample. Well, that's exactly the world that Netflix's new show The One is set in, and it's not all it's cracked up to be. The show follows the story of Rebecca (played by Hannah Ware), the CEO of a company called MatchDNA that helps people find their perfect match. The success of the company hinges entirely on one single DNA database that Rebecca and her business partner have access to, and the show goes on to explore the effects of "the match" on different relationships.
While it sounds like a good idea at first, and in principle suggests that everyone eventually ends up with their one perfect match, in reality, what it means is...

Set in the very near future where scientists have discovered a method of matching people with their perfect romantic fit using DNA, eight-part Netflix Original The One is technically a sci-fi drama. Really though, it’s a crime thriller revolving around the murky circumstances in which the cash cow company behind the matching service was created. Written by Misfits and Crazyhead creator Howard Overman, The One is based on the 2017 novel of the same name by John Marrs. It’s a cat-and-mouse game between wealthy, driven CEO Rebecca (Hannah Ware) and police detective Kate (Zoë Tapper).

First, to clear the dirty plates from the table: yes, there’s already a TV series about a DNA-based dating app that matches people with their perfect partner. It’s AMC’s Soulmates, it’s on Amazon Prime, and premise aside, it bears no similarity to this new Netflix drama. Soulmates is a US anthology series, each episode of which tells a discrete story with a new cast and characters. The One is a UK serialised drama based on John Marrs’ 2017 novel – to which, incidentally, it also bears very little similarity. Call it convergent evolution, or just the way TV works.
(The team behind The One also made the updated War of the Worlds drama that aired around the same time as the BBC’s latest adaptation and is currently readying series two. Risk of confusion or comparison clearly doesn’t faze them.)

Netflix has debuted a new trailer for the relationship drama ‘The One’.
Based on a book by John Marrs, the eight-episode series is set ‘five minutes in the future’, in a world where a DNA test can find your perfect partner – the one person you’re genetically predisposed to fall passionately in love with. No matter how good your relationship, which one of us can honestly say we haven’t thought about whether there is someone better out there? What if a hair sample is all it takes to find them? The idea is simple, but the implications are explosive. We will never think of love and relationships in the same way again.
Created by Howard Overman (Misfits), the series stars Hannah Ware, Dimitri Leonidas, Amir El-Masry, Stephen Campbell Moore, Wilf Scolding, Diarmaid Murtagh, Lois Chimimba, Eric Kofi-Abrefa, Pallavi Sharda, Zoë Tapper and Gregg Chillin.
