Left the magazine industry to become a stock analyst for CIBC Oppenheimer where he became a publicity hound who specialized in hyping tech stocks like Amazon with outrageous future price targets.
After graduating from Yale he worked as a fact checker at Harper's magazine.
In 1999 he left CIBC Oppenheimer to become the tech analyst for Merrill Lynch who desperately wanted to get into the tech industry IPO market.
