“The legendary risotto curse struck again!” says Kristen Kish at the start of this week’s “Top Chef: The Dish with Kish” after show. In this week’s episode of the cooking competition, titled “Sausage Race,” French cheftestant Kevin D’Andrea undertook the rice dish that has crushed the hopes of competitors in the past. Though it wasn’t a bad risotto in and of itself, it lacked the necessary sausage flavor it needed to fulfill the challenge, so he was eliminated. But it’s a dish you can make in 30 minutes to an hour, so why is it so hard to get it right on the show? And how do you make it properly? Kristen explored the dreaded dish with All-Star Amar Santana. Watch the episode above.

She was down but not out. “Top Chef: World All-Stars” contestant Sara Bradley was eliminated from the competition in “Battle of the Wellingtons,” quite possibly the most difficult challenge of the season. But she wasn’t gone for long. In a two-part “Last Chance Kitchen” finale even she defeated Amar Santana and then Charbel Hayek to earn back her spot in the main competition. Can she complete her comeback by winning the whole competition?

It wouldn’t be unprecedented. Kristen Kish (season 10), Brooke Williamson (season 14), and Joseph Flamm (season 15) had to pack their knives and go in their respective seasons, battled back from “Lck,” and ultimately prevailed. That’s not a bad track record when you consider that “Lck” has only been around since season nine. And consider the rest of Bradley’s track record.

By the time the ninth Wellington is served, an audible sigh of relief emerges from the six remaining Top Chef: World All-Stars contestants. The chefs, divided into three teams for the purpose of today’s elimination challenge, look exhausted, and deservedly so. Each team has just prepped, cooked, and delivered three different Wellington dishes — a fish Wellington, a meat Wellington, and a dessert Wellington — which require an incredible amount of technical precision, particularly when serving them to four judges and 20 diners.

“I’m sad, but I’m one of the seven chefs left and I’m here to win. With money I can make a culinary school in Africa. It’s not for me to buy lip gloss. No, I really want to help my people,” says Victoire at the start of “Top Chef: World All-Stars” episode 10, “Thali Time.” She just had to say goodbye to her friend Nicole Gomes at the end of “Restaurant Wars” in one of the season’s most emotional ousters. So the stakes are as high as ever.
The seven remaining competitors playing for the $250,000 grand prize are Ali Al Ghzawi (Middle East and North Africa), Sara Bradley (Kentucky), Victoire Gouloubi (Italy), Buddha Lo (Houston), Tom Goetter (Germany), Gabriel Rodriguez (Mexico), and Amar Santana (California).

Everyone starts “Top Chef: World All-Stars” episode nine, “Restaurant Wars,” with a bit of shellshock. They just said goodbye to Charbel Hayek, who won the “London Calling” challenge at the start of the season with a risky onion dish and had never been at the bottom in an Elimination Challenge but then all of a sudden was sent home in “Street Food Fight.” They raise a glass to “onion boy,” who joins “potato girl” Sylwia Stachyra on this season’s boot list.

‘Top Chef’ 20 episode 8 recap: ‘Street Food Fight’ led to a ‘Fast and Furious’ Elimination Challenge
“When I make a bad dish, I know that it’s bad,” says Victoire, lamenting her disappointing cassava cannoli from “Top Chef: World All Stars” episode seven, “Hands Off.” Luckily for her it wasn’t the worst dish of the challenge. That was Dale MacKay‘s, so he was eliminated just one episode after returning to the competition from “Last Chance Kitchen.” So what happened in episode eight, “Street Food Fight,” when the competition suddenly got a lot more demanding — and a lot faster?
The nine remaining competitors playing for the $250,000 grand prize are Ali Al Ghzawi (Middle East and North Africa), Sara Bradley (Kentucky), Charbel Hayek (Middle East and North Africa), Victoire Gouloubi (Italy), Buddha Lo (Houston), Tom Goetter (Germany), Gabriel Rodriguez (Mexico), Amar Santana (California), and Nicole Gomes (Canada).

Last week’s episode of “Top Chef: World All-Stars,” “Top Chef is No Picnic,” started with 10 contestants, and it ended with … 10 contestants. But it wasn’t the same 10. “Top Chef Canada” alum Dale MacKay returned to the competition after fighting his way back through “Last Chance Kitchen,” and then “Top Chef Poland’s” Sylwia Stachyra was eliminated after a sandwich cookoff against Tom Goetter. Just as the season premiere foretold, Top Chef: World All-Stars has been excellent. By gathering champions and finalists from Top Chef franchises around the globe, the show has avoided cannon fodder contestants who never get their fish perfectly cooked. Instead, it’s delivered episodes where at least half the dishes seem worthy of the win, and most of the time, even the losing plates look pretty good. In the pub food challenge, Dale MacKay and May Thongthong’s Scotch egg seemed delicious, but it got bounced for not being crispy enough. In the holiday favorites episode, it wasn’t that Begoña Rodrigo’s peanut-sauce-and-leftovers concoction was bad, per se. It’s that it wasn’t ready for the cover of a food magazine like Amar Santana’s mouthwatering lamb shank.

The eliminated chefs from Bravo’s Top Chef: World All Stars have been battling it out in Last Chance Kitchen to return to the competition. However, it ends next week during episode six when one officially re-enters.
Luciana Berry was eliminated from ‘Top Chef: Last Chance Kitchen’
Top Chef Spain Season 1 winner Begoña Rodrigo’s “leftover” stew sent her to Last Chance Kitchen to battle it out with Brasil Season 2 champ Luciana Berry and Canada Season 1 winner Dale MacKay for a final opportunity to return to the competition.
The chefs were tasked with creating a three-course meal, including a crunchy, creamy, and chewy dish. Begoña immediately claimed the chewy one, leaving Luciana with crunchy and Dale with creamy. Unknowingly, the Spain and Brasil winners chose to make squab, but Begoña’s dish stood out as the favorite as her sauce impressed judge Tom Colicchio.

‘Top Chef’ elimination predictions: Will Ali Ghzawi pack his knives and go despite his earlier wins?
Just four episodes into its World All-Stars season, “Top Chef” has already been a roller coaster. Will that continue tonight in episode five? Some fans seem to think so. Our users have been predicting tonight’s episode here in our predictions center since last week’s surprise ouster, and the consensus is that Ali Ghzawi will be the next to pack his knives and go. Do you agree?
Ghzawi, the Jordanian chef who won season three of “Top Chef Middle East and North Africa,” has been up and down throughout the season. He won the “Rice, Rice Baby” elimination challenge. Then he landed at the bottom with teammate Amar Santana the very next week in “Cheeky Pints and Pub Bites,” narrowly avoiding elimination. But he stepped back up in “Spurred Lines,” winning the Quickfire and advancing safely through the Elimination Challenge. Will the pendulum swing him back to the bottom again tonight?...

“Top Chef” World All-Stars Dale MacKay and May Phattanant Thongthong didn’t communicate too well when they had to team up for the “Cheeky Pints and Pub Bites” Elimination Challenge. That ended up dooming them both as this was a double elimination. They seemed frustrated with each other during the challenge and later on in “Last Chance Kitchen,” so who really was at fault for their ouster? Scroll down for our complete poll results.
We asked readers, and a leading 42.07% of them said MacKay was more at fault for getting them sent home. He was the one who pressured Thongthong into a very literal, straightforward preparation for their Scotch egg. It wasn’t until they were about to serve the judges that MacKay noticed that the other chefs had done fine-dining deconstructions of their dishes.

“Now I’m in the bottom,” laments Ali Ghzawi, who went from winning an Elimination Challenge to almost being eliminated himself. “I have experienced it, and trust me, that’s a bad place to be in. I need to get my confidence back. I will not let this take over me.”
“We are human, and we can make the simple mistake,” Sylwia Stachyra consoles.

The 14 remaining competitors playing for the $250,000 grand prize are Ali Ghzawi (Middle East and North Africa), Sara Bradley (Kentucky), Charbel Hayek (Middle East and North Africa), Victoire Gouloubi (Italy), Dale MacKay (Canada), Sylwia Stachyra (Poland), Luciana Berry (Brazil), May Phattanant Thongthong (Thailand), Begoña Rodrigo (Spain), Buddha Lo (Houston), Tom Goetter (Germany), Gabriel Rodriguez (Mexico), Amar Santana (California), and Nicole Gomes (Canada).
“We have a little surprise for you,” says Tom Colicchio, who talks to the gathered chefs with his fellow judge Gail Simmons. “There’s no Quickfire tomorrow.” A sense of dread rises in the room. “That’s a good thing!

British pubs and the famous Harrods food hall served as inspiration for Bravo’s new season of “Top Chef.”
Award-winning production designer James Pearse Connelly, who has designed the show’s set for nearly a decade, wanted to capture the essence of British culture for his ninth kitchen. Says Connelly, “It was about how to bring London into the show with all-star chefs from around the world.”
Connelly started by looking at how pubs were designed. He says, “I started with wood paneling and that mystery, intimacy, intrigue and sparkle of what a British pub is.” Additionally, he brought in diamond pane glass and paid homage to London’s famous Big Ben with round, clock tower-inspired doors.
With former contestants Dawn Burrell, Buddha Lo, Sara Bradley and Amar Santana all competing, Connelly says he wanted to draw on that top-tier quality they were bringing to the show. He says, “There...

“Top Chef” Season 18 premieres Thursday, introducing fans to the 15 chefs who will be competing for the title in Portland during this installment. The supersized kickoff to the season will also give viewers an understanding of what changes had to be made in order to film this pandemic-produced “Top Chef.”
