Waiting for The Rings of Power season 2 feels a lot like Gandalf and Pippin looking out from Minas Tirith at the approaching fires of Mordor, a deep breath before the plunge. The Rings of Power season 2 wrapped filming last year and is reportedly slated to hit our screens in 2024, but Amazon has yet to announce a proper release date or tease anything from the new season beside vague hints from cast members last summer (like our interview with Morfydd Clark about what’s next for Galadriel). It’s been a long wait, with the last episode of the series airing in 2022.
But fans shouldn’t take the silence surrounding the second season as a sign that Amazon has cooled on its big-budget Lord of the Rings series. In fact, according to reports, the studio and showrunners Patrick McKay and Jd Payne are already whipping up a third season of the show.

Sydney Sweeney‘s second film of 2024 is finally here, let’s hope that it doesn’t turn into a disaster like the first one. Produced by Sweeney herself, Immaculate is a psychological horror film and it follows the story of a young nun who joins a convent in the Italian countryside. Her quiet life quickly turns into a nightmare because of the horrific secrets hidden in the convent. Directed by Michael Mohan, Immaculate also stars Simona Tabasco, Benedetta Porcaroli, and Álvaro Morte. So, if you loved Sweeney’s horror film here are some similar movies you should check out next.
The Convent
Co-written and directed by Paul Hyett, the 2018 film British horror film titled The Convent gives a similar atmosphere to Sweeney’s Immaculate. The Convent tells us the story of a group of young women seeking refuge from the turmoil of World War II in an isolated convent in the countryside.

I feel it in the water. I feel it in the earth. I smell it in the air. Then again, nobody needs to have the foresight of Galadriel to have caught wind of the latest round of rumors and speculation running rampant among "The Lord of the Rings" fans in recent weeks. While the obsessive fandom waits for more movies to arrive down the line, we at least have Prime Video's "The Rings of Power" series to keep us occupied in the meantime. But no matter how far removed we are from a first season that attracted all sorts of discourse in late 2022, from theories about the mysterious Stranger's identity to the guessing game surrounding the reveal of the Dark Lord Sauron, that hasn't stopped many from attempting to read the pipeweed anyway and make their best guess about which major figures from author J.R.R. Tolkien's lore might appear next.

Was Sundance 2024 a bust? Maybe felt that way a little bit, right? Not that many shot-out-of-a-cannon highlights, not that many breakouts, seemingly a bit of a muted festival arguably. But if there was one film that had a lot of rocket fuel to it, it was arguably Rose Glass’ “Love Lies Bleeding,” a romantic crime thriller starring Kristen Stewart and newcomer Katy O’Brien, known for recent turns in “The Mandalorian” and “Ant-Man And The Wasp: Quantumania.”
Glass is, of course, known for her breakthrough feature, the horror film, “Saint Maud,” which also landed its lead, Morfydd Clark, on the map.

The Rings of Power season 1 is in part the start of the story of how Galadriel became the incorruptible force that would one day, thousands of years later, overcome temptation in The Fellowship of the Ring. She’s not quite there yet at the end of the first season of Amazon’s ambitious Lord of the Rings prequel series, of course. Although she does reject Sauron’s offer to join her as his queen so that they may rule over Middle-earth together, Galadriel doesn’t warn Elrond, Celebrimbor, and Gil-galad about Halbrand’s true nature either, instead becoming too entranced by the light of the first three rings of power, including Nenya, the Elven ring she will soon wear.
“We spoke a lot about how there’s an almost childlike ‘back to Valinor’ thing that happens to the Elves when they look upon those rings. So for a brief moment,...

This Lord of the Rings article contains spoilers for The Rings of Power.
While the first season of Amazon’s The Rings of Power bowed all the way back in 2022, we’ve yet to hear when season 2 will finally arrive on the streaming service. But during the wait, we have learned quite a few things about the upcoming season through set photos and updates from the show’s stars, including Morfydd Clark, who spoke to Den of Geek last year about what’s next for Galadriel. The latest update comes from actor Charlie Rich’s Instagram Stories, where he seems to confirm that Gavi Singh Chera (The Undeclared War) is set to play Annatar, one of the Dark Lord’s other forms in J.R.R. Tolkien’s legendarium, in season 2.
It’s important to note that Amazon hasn’t officially confirmed who Chera is playing, so take the following with a grain of salt.

The BBC’s latest Agatha Christie adaptation concluded last night ahead of ITV’s Why Didn’t They Ask Evans? from over the Easter Weekend.
Agatha Christie’s Murder is Easy, starring Industry’s David Jonsson as an amateur sleuth working with Rings of Power star Morfydd Clark, was watched by 2.8M viewers last night, losing 800,000 from Wednesday’s opener. Both episodes launched on BBC iPlayer on Wednesday morning so had been available for some time prior to linear launch.

Contains spoilers for Murder is Easy including the identity of the murderer.
A Christmas Christie is a treat and Murder is Easy scratches that itch very nicely. Telling the story of a rural village of two halves where people keep getting murdered while the police seemingly do nothing, this latest adap written by Sian Ejiwunmi-Le Berre makes some meaty changes to Christie’s original story. Most noticeably our hero, Luke Fitzwilliam (David Jonsson) is no longer a white policeman but a young Nigerian diplomat. After encountering a lady on a train (Penelope Wilton) who tells him about the deaths in the village and that they were carried out by a respectable person with a point to make, and who is subsequently killed herself, Fitzwilliam feels it’s his duty to find out what’s going on.

Agatha Christie would have approved of modern-day revisions to her written works, says her great-grandson James Pritchard.
This Christmas, the BBC is airing one of Christie’s lesser-known works, Murder is Easy, with its central character Luke Fitzwilliam given a Nigerian background, in a change to his character in the novel of the same name, published in 1939.
Pritchard, now in charge of the company overseeing his famous relative’s literary legacy and bringing it to new audiences, told the UK’s Radio Times magazine that he’s convinced Christie would have been in favour of making changes to her text, in terms of both storylines and characterisation.
He said:
“The first few adaptations of her plays were done by other people, and she didn’t like them because she didn’t think they were radical enough for the change in medium.

Of life’s many mysteries, few are as powerful or as complicated as religion and death. Are we alone at the moment we cease to live or will there be someone waiting for us on the other side? Who pulls the strings that guide our lives and what will they require from us during our time among the living? There are as many different answers to these questions as stars in the sky and how we answer them often reveals more about ourselves than any higher power.
With such mysterious forces at play, it’s no wonder religion and death occupy so much of the genre landscape. Catholic horror movies abound with many tackling demonic forces attempting to invade innocent bodies. But few films present such an intimate portrait of penance and pain as Rose Glass’ Saint Maud. This bleak film follows Maud (Morfydd Clark) a young in-home nurse as...

Feature debutant Raine Allen-Miller’s “Rye Lane” led the nominations at the 2023 British Independent Film Awards (BIFA) with 16 nods.

Freeman and Ng Choon Ping’s “Femme” 11 and Mahalia Belo’s “The End We Start From” nine. The nominations were revealed by actors Susan Wokoma (“Enola Holmes”) and Morfydd Clark (“Saint Maud”) at an announcement event at One Hundred Shoreditch, London.
From 2022, the awards went permanently gender neutral for acting categories with the traditional best and supporting actress and actor awards being replaced by best lead performance, best supporting performance, best joint lead performance — for performances that are the joint focus of the film — and best ensemble.

You can smell what’s happening in “Starve Acre” before you puzzle the rest of it out. The grassy, peaty dampness of its rural Yorkshire setting seems to hit the olfactory glands without any scratch-and-sniff assistance, only intensifying as the film unearths its literally deep-buried secrets. Daniel Kokotajlo’s impressive second feature unfolds in a vein of British folk horror that has been popular of late — with films from Ben Wheatley’s “A Field in England” to Mark Jenkins’s “Enys Men” all tapping into that retro “Wicker Man” eeriness — but rarely with such rattling sensory specificity or formal refinement. Starring Morfydd Clark and Matt Smith as former townies unprepared for the full burden of lore they inherit with their desolate farmhouse, it’s a tale of quite outlandish fantastical leaps, grounded by the chills it also finds in common weather and wildlife.

With great success comes great expectation, and I doubt that Daniel Kokotajlo’s Starve Acre will quite live up to the favorable notices of his first feature, the BAFTA-nominated Apostasy. The story, which has been adapted from a novel by Andrew Michael Hurley, concerns Richard (Matt Smith) and Juliette Willoughby (Morfydd Clark), who have recently moved from the city to the comparatively desolate Yorkshire Dales. At the village fair, their son Owen, who has complained of hearing the voice and whistles of a sprite named Jack Grey, blinds a horse with a sharp stick and is duly sent to a psychiatric hospital. Shortly after his consultation, which includes a nightmarish brain scan, he dies suddenly at the family home, paralyzing Richard and Juliette and further enlivening the spirit that so tormented him.
It is here the film takes its boldest, most bewildering turn. After Owen’s death, Richard commits himself...

London film festival Matt Smith and Morfydd Clark play an unhappy couple who have moved to the moors with their young son, and soon become entwined in the occult
Award-winning director Daniel Kokotajlo made a real impression five years ago with his fiercely distinctive debut feature, Apostasy, set in an enclosed religious world. Here is his diverting but frankly more generic follow-up, adapted from the novel by Andrew Michael Hurley. It is billed as contemporary folk horror but borders on film-school pastiche, and “contemporary” means set in the era of The Wicker Man in the early 70s – a British world of brown corduroy, Austin 1100s, no central heating, odd locals and a persistent, sinister encroaching gloom in the countryside. The movie teeters on a knife-edge between scary and silly, and yet without that weird flavour of silly, the scares wouldn’t mean as much.

Morfydd Clark loves the "revealing" nature of the horror genre. The 33-year-old actress stars in the new creepy flick 'Starve Acre' and is keen to explore how the art form has different impacts on viewers after previously featuring in the psychological horror movie 'Saint Maud'.Morfydd told The Hollywood Reporter: "This is what I always just love about horror in general, because everybody has their own particular thing that makes them be like, 'Oh'."I like that about 'Black Mirror' as well. I love asking people what their most horrific 'Black Mirror' is because it's quite revealing. I think horror is really interesting like that."'Starve Acre' tells the story of how a family's peaceful rural life is thrown into chaos when their son starts acting strangely and Morfydd found it "quite eerie" to be shooting the project in an isolated house.

It’s a been quite a life-changing few years for Morfydd Clark. After breaking out as a troubled and God-fearing palliative care nurse in A24’s wonderfully unsettling and critically lauded psychological horror Saint Maud, which was finally released in 2021 after several pandemic delays, the fast-rising Welsh actress headed straight to Middle-earth, fronting The Rings of Power’s ensemble cast as the young and fearless Galadriel.

It took a village to bring Amazon’s “The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power” to life and into homes.
The Middle-earth fantasy drama wowed Emmy voters with its craft- work, scoring nominations in main-title design, prosthetic makeup, fantasy/sci-fi costumes, sound editing, special visual effects and original main-title theme music. Set thousands of years before the Third Age of the Peter Jackson-helmed “The Lord of the Rings” film trilogy, the first season introduced viewers to elves, dwarves, orcs and Harfoots (one of three hobbit races) during a time of prosperity and relative peace.
Costume designer Kate Hawley and her team built more than 2,000 outfits. By using vegetable dyes as well as berry stains, she achieved unique shades and tones for her costumes.

Fantasy dramas made a surprisingly strong showing in this year’s Emmy nominations, with several titles scoring in the top series categories.
HBO’s House of the Dragon and The Last of Us and Disney+’s Andor all landed a nomination for outstanding drama series, Netflix’s Wednesday was nominated for outstanding comedy series, and Disney+’s Obi-Wan Kenobi earned a nomination for outstanding limited series.
It’s almost certainly unprecedented for five fantasy titles to get Emmy nominations in the outstanding series categories.
On the acting side, too, a few of the show’s stars broke through (though not as many as fans had hoped): The Last of Us star Bella Ramsey was nominated for best actress in a drama, and her co-lead Pedro Pascal was nominated for best actor. Jenna Ortega was nominated for best actress in a comedy. Also, Elisabeth Moss was honored for Hulu’s The Handmaid’s Tale.

While Amazon Prime Video’s Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power managed to wrap filming on its second season amid an ongoing writers strike that’s delayed productions elsewhere, the show hasn’t really enjoyed the victory lap it hoped in 2023. A tepid response to season 1, both from fans and critics, has put even more pressure on a show that was already carrying massive expectations on its shoulders due to both its beloved source material and its reportedly $1 billion price tag.
In April, viewership data released by THR revealed that only 37 percent of US and 45 percent of international audiences actually watched the first season of The Rings of Power all the way through, a less than desirable result for a show that is said to be the most expensive ever produced. It suggests that, while early episodes attracted a large audience, the majority of viewers on both sides...

Fantasy on TV was once the preserve of teen-skewing shows like Xena and Hercules, until Game of Thrones made things bigger but bloodier with its blockbuster eight-year run. Now, however, the genre is expanding in unexpected ways, typified by Amazon’s The Lord of The Rings: The Rings of Power. Where we might have expected another adaptation about obviously good folk fighting clear evil, the show that emerged offers a look at power, obsession and conflict set thousands of years before J.R.R. Tolkien’s foundational text. After Thrones (and its own prequel), it is a coming-of-age for the genre, proof that fantasy is capable of offering subtlety and complexity as well as large-scale adventure.
The TV spin-off from the most influential fantasy book of all time might have gone any number of ways: there were rumors of a new adaptation of Frodo’s story or a straightforward prequel about a young Aragorn.
