Ripple, a cryptocurrency company that enables banks, payment providers, and other entities to send money globally using blockchain technology, has filed suit against YouTube.
The company claims that YouTube has not done enough to clamp down on scams that involve the impersonation of its CEO, Brad Garlinghouse (pictured above). In the suit, Ripple also accuses YouTube of selling ads and verifying accounts that promote fake cryptocurrency giveaways -- including accounts that appear to be from Ripple and Garlinghouse -- and then ignoring complaints about their falsification, per The Verge. The scams on these fake channels offered viewers crypto-based rewards if they agreed to make small initial payments.
The suit also claims that some of the accounts that hackers used for their fake giveaways were stolen from already-established YouTubers, meaning that infiltrators were able to keep hundreds of thousands of subscribers and an air of legitimacy, according to The Verge. This...

After an infuriating -- and baffling -- turn of events, YouTube has agreed to get on the phone with Meghan Rienks, an early and popular lifestyle creator who says that her 10-year-old second channel has been hacked since Jan. 2.
That channel, formerly dedicated to Rienks' informal vlogs -- where she previously documented her nose job journey -- was not only hacked, she says (and a cursory glance evidences), but all of her videos have been deleted, her channel artwork has been changed, and the hub has been renamed ‘Beauty Dior’. While it's unclear whether Beauty Dior is a nod to the French fashion house or a reference to a porn star of the same name, the hacked channel -- which now counts 503,000 subscribers -- has been uploading repurposed beauty tutorials ripped from Instagram since the beginning of the year.

Meghan Rienks isn’t the first YouTube star to venture into the literary realm, and she won’t be the last -- but the 25-year-old lifestyle vlogger and actress insists that her debut memoir, You’re Not Special, will present a more unvarnished look at her life than comparable titles.
In Special, which is available for preorder now and officially hits shelves on Feb. 9, Rienks will dicuss being raised in a small town of 8,000 people, her struggles with mental health, drunken debachueries, and how she launched her vlogging career after suffering from a bad bout of mono. Rienks will also offer life advice along the way, and the book’s brash title serves to assert that, “despite what you’ve been told, your problems are not unique, your struggles have taken form in everybody else’s life too,” according to its jacket description.

Meghan Rienks is one of the stars of The Honor List, a movie that follows former best friends who reunite when tragedy strikes before their high school graduation. Get The Honor List on iTunes now, and on DVD May 15!
To the women of The Honor List,
Thank you for being my partners in this movie. Thank you for all the work I did and did not see you do. Thank you for the hours you put in when nobody was watching. Thank you for believing in this story as much I did. They say it takes a village and I couldn't be prouder of the one we created.
I still pinch myself trying to wrap my head around how we got here, creating a movie about women and friendship, made by women; a movie we made together.

"This one isn't just for Honor, it's for you." Lionsgate has debuted an official trailer for indie coming-of-age drama titled The Honor List, from Australian director Elissa Down (Pink Pyjamas, The Black Balloon). The Honor List is about four friends who, before high school, were besties, but by senior year they wouldn't even speak to each other. When tragedy strikes, they bond over a list they have to complete together. It's a bittersweet film that "explores the complexities of friendships, family, love, loss, and high school." In the first season of Freakish, popular social media stars and young actors got the chance to portray high school students who fought (and in some cases, succumbed) against a zombie onslaught. Now, the survivors are returning for season two, and they will be joined by several more familiar faces. New cast members for Freakish’s second season include online video standouts Amanda Steele and Niki DeMartino.
Steele, a teenage fashionista whose looks have attracted more than 2.8 million subscribers to her channel, and DeMartino, best known as one half of the sisterly duo Niki and Gabi, will portray students who will contribute to Freakish’s brand of high school drama, which is set against the backdrop of an undead invasion. Steele and DeMartino will join other online video stars in the Freakish cast, including Liza Koshy, Meghan Rienks, and Melvin Gregg.
The new additions to the Freakish cast were announced on YouTube via the channel of AwesomenessTV. The youth-focused network serves as the show’s producer and has a lot of experience working with the young stars cast in it.
