Chad Archibald, producer of Antisocial (a personal fave) turns his hand to directing with a film which is a bold attempt to create an all-new horror villain in The Drownsman. And hey, what’s not to like about another horror film starring the wonderful Michelle Mylett?

It’s not just water the frightens Madison, it’s the supernatural entity that continually haunts her through it, a rancid ghostly entity trying to pull her into his dark, wet world. Her friends, worried for her sanity, decide to stage an intervention – with dire consequences. Their attempts to help their friend only unleash the drownsman’s rage...

Toronto’s Breakthrough Entertainment has picked up sales for Cannes on thriller The Drownsman, which screens in the market on Thursday (15).
Chad Archibald directed the Black Fawn Films story of a woman haunted by an incident where she nearly drowned.
“We set out to make a film that created a new supernatural villain like the classic horror films of Clive Barker and Wes Craven, something that has become rare in the horror industry over the last decade,” said Archibald.
“Similar to Freddy Krueger, Michael Myers, Pinhead and Jason Voorhees, we wanted to create a villain with a rich history and a juicy hook that could ignite some fandom amongst genre fans.”
Michelle Mylett, Caroline Korycki, Gemma Bird Matheson, Sydney Kondruss, Clare Bastable and Ry Barrett star.
Christopher Giroux and Archibald produce and Peter Williamson, Ira Levy, Nat Abraham and Michael McGuigan are the executive producers.

I'm getting some solid Candyman vibes from this trailer for The Drownsman, which debuted online today just in time for Cannes. Chad Archibald's film got us interested with the cool poster that was released a bit ago (pictured here). The trailer itself - or the scenario depicted in the promo - presents a cool '80s/boogeyman vibe. Archibald co-penned the script with Cody Calahan (Antisocial). Michelle Mylett, Gemma Bird Matheson, Caroline Korycki, Sydney Kondruss, Clare Bastable and Ryan Barrett star.
