Mantha McEwan
Mantha was born 23rd October 1972 in Canterbury, Kent to parents Margaret and John McEwan and lived for the first part of her life in Herne Bay, Kent. Her father was a master plasterer and was self-employed as a general builder.
She started off at the age of 3 going to the Hasland school of dance to learn RAD ballet, but her parents separated and it was a long walk so she quit at age 8. She passed her 11 plus exam and attended Barton Court Grammar School for Girls in Canterbury, her parents finally divorced when she was 11, by the time she was 13, the desire to dance was too strong and she joined Jane Guy's dance school, where she achieved IDTA Artiste status at age 17.
Physically unsuited to life in ballet, Mantha stepped away from the stage and trained in hairdressing and beauty therapy but felt unfulfilled by the work. By age 21 she had moved to live in Canterbury with her mother and age 24 became pregnant, she gave birth to a daughter in May 1998. All thoughts of a career were put on hold to be a full-time mother but in 2014 Mantha looked again at the possibility of a career in the arts.
