Amahlia is an actor and filmmaker of German/Sinhalese-Burgher heritage. She grew up in Brisbane Australia, and gained a lot of her initial training and experience at institutes such as NIDA Brisbane, The Warehouse Workshop with casting director Tom McSweeney, as well as with a private acting and voice coach. She's performed in the notable roles of Wendy, in 'Peter Pan & Wendy' the musical at Brisbane Arts Theatre, (which saw her nominated for Young Star of the Month); Mrs Fox in 'Fantastic Mr Fox', and Laura in 'The Glass Menagerie'.
In 2016 she relocated to Sydney to further her studies, and began training with coaches Miranda Harcourt and Nadia Townsend; and in 2018 graduated from Sydney Film School with her Diploma of Screen and Media. Amahlia has since continued to work as an actor, director and assistant director for The Genesian Theatre, Short+Sweet Theatre Festival, and for a number of film and online projects. Her film directorial debut, a documentary short called Being Harley (2020), recently completed it's festival run, winning the Tarkovski Grant and making Official Nominee for LA Producer's Night 2023. It has also made Official Selection for Milan Shorts Film Festival 2023, Sydney World Film Festival 2023, Made In The West 2023, Atlanta Docufest 2022, Short+Sweet Film Festival 2022 and SydFest Independent Film Festival 2022.
