Big Brother 23 runner-up Derek “Big D” Frazier believes his weight plays a part in why he hasn’t appeared on other competition shows, as several of his castmates recently returned to reality TV for The Challenge and The Amazing Race.
Derek Frazier thinks competition shows won’t cast him due to his weight
Several Big Brother alumni have become recurring cast members on the MTV competition series The Challenge, including Faysal “Fessy” Shafaat, Josh Martinez, Amber Borzotra, and Kaycee Clark, with the latter two winning a season. Additionally, season 20’s Angela Rummans and season 23’s Alyssa Lopez and Derek Xiao, and Cookout members Azah Awasum, Kyland Young, Tiffany Mitchell, and winner Xavier Prather joined the first season of CBS competitive spinoff The Challenge: USA.
Shortly after casting for USA Season 2 and The Challenge 39 reportedly began in late February 2023, BB23 runner-up Derek “Big D” Frazier tweeted his belief about not getting called for the series.

For the past week at Gold Derby, “Big Brother 23” fans have been casting their votes for who they want to win America’s Favorite Houseguest and the $50,000 check that comes with it. Three of the 16 houseguests have double-digit support in our recent poll: Tiffany Mitchell in first place, Claire Rehfuss in second place and Derek Xiao in third place. In other words, people who think the popular “Lord of the Latrine” has this thing in the bag may be surprised on finale night. The other players all come in with less than 3% of the vote, suggesting this is indeed a three-way race.

At long last, the Final 3 houseguests on “Big Brother” Season 23 have been named: Xavier Prather (he earned his spot by winning Head of Household and Veto), Derek Frazier (he advanced when X kept him off the chopping block) and Azah Awasum (she has Big D to thank since he didn’t vote to evict her). Poor Kyland Young came close to making it to the finale, but Derek and Xavier decided it was his time to go, so Derek cast the sole vote to evict him. Now, with the finale set for September 29, the Final 3 took some time on Friday to celebrate their accomplishments and look back on past moments. Plus, the trio got emotional watching videos from their loved ones.

In the most contentious eviction of the summer, Kyland Young was sent packing on Thursday’s live episode of “Big Brother,” leading to a heated exchange with Head of Household Xavier Prather. Host Julie Chen Moonves ordered Kyland to leave the house after the 29-year old account executive mentioned Xavier’s nephew lacking an honest role model, an opinion Xavier didn’t react well to. “I highly suggest you stop talking about my nephew,” Xavier said before Julie stepped in and demanded that Kyland leave the house.
Kyland was blindsided by Derek Frazier (Big D), who stated he owes nobody but himself anything in this game. As the sole vote to evict this week, Big D decided to move forward with Xavier and Azah Awasum as the final three competing for the $750,000 grand prize. Kyland becomes juror #8 alongside Hannah Chaddha, Tiffany Mitchell, Alyssa Lopez, Claire Rehfuss, Sarah Beth Steagall, Derek Xiao and Britney D’Angelo.

Thursday night’s live double eviction episode of “Big Brother” concluded with Alyssa Lopez following Claire Rehfuss to the jury house. The 24-year old swimwear designer was put on the block next to her closest ally, Xavier Prather, by Head of Household Hannah Chaddha. After Xavier won the Power of Veto and saved himself, Hannah put Kyland Young up as the replacement nominee and Alyssa was evicted by a vote of 3-1. That was the final step in the Cookout alliance’s plan to reach the Top 6. Upon meeting host Julie Chen Moonves for her exit interview, Alyssa still had no idea the Cookout existed.
“I think if it was gonna be X it was gonna be me,” Alyssa told Julie when asked about being evicted from the game over Kyland. “That was gonna be the plan last week and unfortunately the double happened and it’s me because X killed that comp.

Thursday night’s live double eviction episode of “Big Brother” began with the predictable, yet heartbreaking eviction of Claire Rehfuss. The 25-year old New Yorker was sent packing under the Head of Household reign of her best friend in the house, Tiffany Mitchell. Tiffany had initially targeted Alyssa Lopez, but when the swimwear designer won the Power of Veto, Tiffany had no choice but to turn on Claire for the sake of the Cookout. Claire will now join Sarah Beth Steagall, Britini D’Angelo and Derek Xiao in the jury house.

One week after her reign as Head of Household, Sarah Beth Steagall was evicted from the “Big Brother” house during Thursday’s live episode. The 27-year-old forensic scientist was originally put on the block next to her best friend in the house, Kyland Young, when Tiffany Mitchell took control as the new Hoh. Tiffany was overthrown by her own Bff, Claire Rehfuss, who won the Coin of Destiny in the High Roller’s Room but decided to keep nominations the same. The house voted 5-1 to evict Sarah Beth over Kyland. She will join Britini D’Angelo and Derek Xiao in the jury house and help determine the Season 23 winner on September 29.

Despite a solid campaign to flip the house in his favor, Derek Xaio was sent packing on Thursday’s live eviction episode of “Big Brother.” The 24-year-old start-up founder from New York was backdoored by Head of Household Sarah Beth Steagall and evicted by a vote of 5-2 over Claire Rehfuss. Hannah Chaddha and Kyland Young were the two votes in his favor. Derek will join Britini D’Angelo in the jury house, but first, he stopped to have a chat with host Julie Chen Moonves.

After spending four of the last six weeks on the block, Britini D’Angelo was finally evicted from the “Big Brother” house on Thursday’s live episode. The 24-year old kindergarten teacher from Niagara Falls was targeted by Head of Household Kyland Young and then ousted by a vote of 7-1 over her former Jokers teammate Derek Frazier. Azah Awasum was the only houseguest who voted for Britini to stay. Britini will become the first houseguest to move into the jury house and vote for the Season 23 winner at the September live finale.
“I think going into jury it’s definitely a conversation of who you think you can beat in the final two,” Britini told host Julie Chen Moonves in her exit interview. “I think it was the consensus of the house that with the underdog story that I have, no one in this house was going to beat me in the final two.

The first endurance Head of Household competition began during last Thursday’s live episode, with 11 houseguests holding on for dear life. Whoever lasted the longest in the “Whale of a Time” Hoh comp would earn the power to nominate two people for eviction. And, for the first time this season, everyone was eligible to be nominated (aside from still-safe Claire Rehfuss) because the team twist was over. So who ended up winning the fifth Head of Household comp of “BB23” and which two contestants did they put on the block?

Whitney Williams was royally flushed out of the “Big Brother” house on Thursday’s live eviction episode. The 30-year-old makeup artist from Oregon fought to the end, but was ultimately sent packing by a vote of 10-0 over her Aces teammate Hannah Chaddha. Whitney made a last-ditch effort to work with Head of Household Christian Birkenberger, but it was too little too late since he already had his hands full with the Royal Flush alliance. The team twist on “Big Brother 23” is donezo. Host Julie Chen Moonves made the announcement during the August 5 live episode, following the unanimous eviction of Whitney Williams.
The twist began four weeks ago in the season premiere, when the 16 original contestants were divided into four teams: Jokers, Aces, Kings and Queens. The Aces performed the worst during this phase, with both Whitney and Brent Champagne being evicted. The Queens and the Jokers lost one person each, Travis Long and Brandon “Frenchie” French, while the Kings finished with all four of their members still in tact. So what does the elimination of the team twist mean going forward?

The Aces took another hit on Thursday’s episode of “Big Brother” when either Whitney Williams or Hannah Chaddha was evicted live. That left their team with only two players, compared to four for the Kings and three each for the Queens and Jokers. Head of Household Christian Birkenberger had made it clear that Whitney was his target, but Sarah Beth Steagall was adamant that Hannah was the stronger player. So how did the house vote on August 5? And who ended the evening with a one-on-one conversation with Julie Chen Moonves?

The Cookout alliance is continuing to heat up “Big Brother.” This historic, all-Black alliance has so far managed to avoid eviction during the first three weeks of Season 23. Now our readers think two of the Cookout members, Tiffany Mitchell and Kyland Young, are the ones to beat for this summer’s series-high prize of $750,000. They’re currently sizzling in the #1 and #2 positions in Gold Derby’s “Big Brother” winner predictions.
Besides Tiffany and Kyland, the other Cookout players are Azah Awasum, Derek Frazier and Xavier Prather, plus late addition Hannah Chaddha. The “Big Brother” house briefly came together last week to unanimously evict Brent Champagne, which left only 13 players left in the game. Christian Birkenberger then took power for the Kings by winning the fourth Head of Household competition of the summer. That meant his teammates Alyssa Lopez, Xavier Prather and Sarah Beth Steagall would sail through the week unscathed. Last week the Kings had floated the idea of targeting Whitney Williams or Hannah Chaddha should they win, since they had no allegiance to them. Is that what Christian ultimately decided to do with his Hoh power?

The house was unanimous on Thursday’s live eviction episode of “Big Brother,” sending Brent Champagne out the door by a vote of 11-0 over Britini D’Angelo. The 28-year-old flight attendant from Rhode Island was expecting to blindside Head of Household Xavier Prather by securing enough votes to stay, but even Brent’s fellow Aces turned on him.
“To be honest, I’m not shocked,” Brent told host Julie Chen Moonves during his exit interview. “It’s the right play. If [they didn’t] get me out I was going to create a lot of havoc in the house. It is a game of betrayal. I’ve had a target on my back since day one. I’m a strong personality. Obviously physically, people have said since day one I look like a threat. Those things just don’t go away. I haven’t even done anything to prove I’m a physical threat yet.

Heading into the third eviction episode of “Big Brother,” Brent Champagne had no idea he was potentially about to be blindsided by his closest allies. The Rhode Island flight attendant believed that his block-mate Britini D’Angelo was about to be evicted, however the entire house had set a plan in motion to send him home instead. Head of Household Xavier Prather, Veto holder Christian Birkenberger and wildcard winner Tiffany Mitchell all helped carry out that plan, which meant Brent needed a miracle in order to survive Thursday night. So who ended up having a one-on-one meeting with Julie Chen Moonves at the end of the hour?

Another week in the “Big Brother” house meant another week on the block for Britini D’Angelo. She was nominated for eviction by Head of Household Xavier Prather, whose true plan this week was to oust Brent Champagne, the house’s number one target. During Xavier’s nominations speech, he told Brent he was a pawn, but that was a lie to make him not fight as hard during the Veto. So how did the Power of Veto competition play out on Wednesday night? Did Brent or Britini end up saving themselves from the block?

After a crazy two weeks in the “Big Brother” house, Brandon “Frenchie” French said goodbye during the second live eviction episode. It was a near-unanimous vote over his block-mate Britini D’Angelo, with only Derek Frazier casting a pity vote to keep him. Following Frenchie’s one-on-one chat with Julie Chen Moonves, the eligible players competed in a Head of Household competition hosted by “Celebrity Bb” player Tom Green, with Xavier Prather answering the most correct questions. So who did new Hoh Xavier nominate for eviction? And who won this week’s wildcard comp?

Heading into Thursday’s live eviction episode of “Big Brother,” Britini D’Angelo and Brandon “Frenchie” French had both been nominated for eviction by Head of Household Kyland Young. They had a chance to save themselves in the Power of Veto competition, but Derek Xiao claimed victory instead (his second consecutive Veto of the summer) and opted not to use it. That meant either Britini or Frenchie were about to be eliminated, so the Jokers would soon be losing a team member. How did the live eviction play out, and which houseguest ended the night with a one-on-one conversation with Julie Chen Moonves?

Two Jokers, Brandon “Frenchie” French and Britini D’Angelo, found themselves nominated for eviction during week two of “Big Brother,” but this was no laughing matter. Frenchie felt he was betrayed by Slaughterhouse alliance member Kyland Young (even though Frenchie nominated him last week) after Kyland won Head of Household. Meanwhile, Britini was placed on the block because she was a “loyal” player who’d no doubt save Frenchie with the Veto if given the opportunity. Speaking of the Veto, who won this all-important power and what did they decide to do with it? Let’s go!

And then there were 15. The first live eviction episode of “Big Brother” Season 23 resulted in the elimination of Travis Long, aka the “white guy with abs.” Only two people (Derek Frazier and Tiffany Mitchell) voted to keep him safe, compared to 11 who voted to keep his block-mate Alyssa Lopez in the house. Following Travis’ Q&a with Julie Chen Moonves, the eligible players then competed in a live Head of Household competition, with Kyland Young proving victorious. So who did Kyland nominate for eviction? And who won the second wildcard comp of the summer?

Heading into Thursday’s first live eviction episode of “Big Brother” Season 23, Alyssa Lopez of the Kings and Travis Long of the Queens had been nominated for eviction by Head of Household Brandon “Frenchie” French. Frenchie’s original plan was to oust Christian Birkenberger, but that “meathead” saved himself in the wildcard competition. Frenchie then set his sights on Derek Xiao, but he won the Power of Veto. Despite all that, Frenchie still called his Hoh reign a “total, total success” … um, okay. So how did the house vote, and which player ended the night having a meet-and-greet with Julie Chen Moonves?

Hmm, is Brandon “Frenchie” French really having the messiest opening Head of Household reign in “Big Brother” history? The Tennessee farmer started the week by promising to nominate Christian Birkenberger … but then the “meathead” won the wildcard competition. Frenchie also told all of the girls they’d be safe this week … but then he put Christian’s number-two, Alyssa Lopez, on the eviction block. His second nominee was Kyland Young … but Frenchie hinted during the nominations ceremony that he was actually just a pawn. The only way Frenchie’s week could get any worse was if the Veto saved Kyland or Alyssa from the block. So how did everything play out on Wednesday night?

The first episode of “Big Brother 23” introduced the country to the 16 all-new players who’ll be competing all summer to win the $500,000 $750,000 grand prize. Four of them won their initial plexiglass challenges and became team leaders: Brandon “Frenchie” French for the Jokers, Whitney Williams for the Aces, Christian Birkenberger for the Kings and Claire Rehfuss for the Queens. The Jokers later won the “House of Cards” inspired Head of Household competition, which meant Frenchie automatically became the season’s first Hoh. So who did Frenchie nominate for eviction, and what the heck is the wildcard comp that Julie Chen Moonves teased us about last time?

Ever since “Big Brother” first debuted in the summer of 2000, the grand prize for the ultimate winner has been a cool half-mil. That’s why it was so shocking when host Julie Chen Moonves announced during the 90-minute Season 23 premiere that the prize money for “BB23” would jump from $500,000 to $750,000.
“We are adding a quarter of a million dollars to the grand prize,” Julie told the 16 all-new houseguests in the backyard on opening night. “That’s right — the winner of ‘Big Brother’ will receive $750,000. Soak it in.”

July 20 marks the 45th anniversary of the death of Bruce Lee, who had one of the briefest and most remarkable careers in Hollywood history. On July 23, 1973, Variety ran his 300-word obituary on page 7. He didn’t get star treatment because he wasn’t yet a star, at least in the English-speaking world. As Matthew Polly points out in his excellent new bio “Bruce Lee: A Life” (Simon & Schuster), Lee had a career in Asia as a child actor, a dancer (he won Hong Kong’s 1958 Cha-Cha Dance Championship with little brother Robert), a young star (nicknamed “Little Dragon” by his fans) and then a martial-arts practitioner and innovator. The rest of the world discovered him when “Enter the Dragon” opened in 1973, just one month after he died suddenly at age 32 of a brain aneurysm. Variety reviewer Whitney Williams enthused, “Lee socks over a performance seldom equaled in action (movies).” His charisma,...
