Emmy nominated "Euphoria" actress Sydney Sweeney, currently co-starring in the Sony/Marvel Studios feature "Madame Web", has been cast as "Barbarella" in a new feature based on the French comic strip heroine created by Jean-Claude Forest:
'Barbarella' is a young woman who travels from planet to planet and has numerous adventures...
....often involving sex.
The aliens she meets often seduce her...
...and she also experiments with a 'machine excessive' or 'orgasmotron'.
The original comic book version of 'Barbarella' was modeled on French actress Brigitte Bardot...
...and Jane Fonda starred in a spoof feature, directed by her husband Roger Vadim.
The Dynamite Entertainment title "Barbarella" #1 is written by Mike Carey and illustrated by Kenan Yarar, with covers by Kenneth Rocafort, Joe Jusko, Josephn Michael Linsner, Robert Hack, Annie Wu, Kenan Yarar, Valentine DeLandro, Veronica Fish and Roberto Castro.

Welcome to this brand-new feature here on Nerdly, where one of our comic gurus, Ian Wells, delves into comics history and dissects Comics Interview, the long-running journal of interviews and criticism from David Anthony Kraft.
Credits
I am going to kick things off by delving into the credits box, just to do a quick round-up of who’s, who. Now this feature may not come back every week depending on how much the credits change issue to issue. If a new name crops up I will call them out and maybe with the people I can’t find anything about online I can find out about them with the reading of each issue. There is no better place to start than with the main man himself, David Anthony Kraft. Before publishing this very magazine we are about to dive into Kraft has a more than substantial body of work both...

The DCeased run from DC Comics has been outstanding. Each issue's variant cover is an homage to a classic horror movie, including A Nightmare on Elm Street, It, and The Nun, just to name a few. This month's issue (issue #4) of DCeased takes on the Final Destination franchise. Also in today's Comics Corner: Elvira: Mistress of the Dark #8, and Buffy the Vampire Slayer #7.
*Recommendation* DCeased #4: "The Daily Planet has become a beacon of hope for the living as the Anti-Life Equation sweeps the planet. What’s left of the Justice League have begun to gather there, bringing survivors and family alike. But the city is being overrun with infected humans” and superhumans! The war for Metropolis begins!

Being someone who’s covered conventions of varying sizes around southeast Michigan for the past five years, I’ve been clamoring for another big event aimed at the comic book crowd to come to Detroit. Like many of you, I feel that just one hasn’t been enough, and though the small and mid-sized shows are certainly lots of fun, there’s just nothing like a sprawling showroom floor populated by vendors, writers, artists and healthy amount of celebrities.
Well, soon enough, that’s going to change once the first ever Michigan Comic Con arrives in downtown Detroit this August, which is sure to satisfy our geeky needs for the summertime. And seeing as how it’s brought to us by the same folks behind Tampa Bay, San Francisco, Indiana and Atlanta Comic Cons, I think it’s safe to say we’re all in for a weekend to remember.
