Jean Buschmann
- Producer
- Writer
- Director
Jean Buschmann's singular goal as a writer, is to script riveting socially relevant stories that create memorable and meaningful films.
Born and raised in New York City, by a Puerto Rican mother and German-American father, multiculturalism is a common characteristic of her work. An avid reader as a child, stories cultivated Jean's sense of wonder and imagination. Writing was a natural progression. If being biracial and multicultural made Ms. Buschmann privy to opposing sides of the racial divide, living on the border between two worlds meant she never quite fit into either. The upside is this made her a keen observer of diverse human behavior - an insight that continuously informs her writing.
A freelance Video Preditor (producer/editor) and Content Creator by day, Ms. Buschmann also takes pride in being a free-thinking, mind-speaking, lover of laughter and life who enjoys mentoring students and spending time with her partner in creative crime and life - the uber humble multi-talented award winning Ruben L. Martinez. (Who many call a "one man production crew.")
The two run their own small freelance production company and also love to travel and spend time outdoors, when time permits.
PERSONAL TRIVIA:
A Meaningful Miracle -
As an infant, while living in a drafty Brooklyn basement apartment, Jean contracted lobar (dual lung) pneumonia. A condition that healthy men in their prime rarely survive. Knowing that her recovery was considered miraculous made her keenly aware of how precious and precarious life is.
That experience was the impetus for her parents' move to Astoria, Queens - where Jean would spend her formative years.
NYC to CA Exodus -
Jean arrived in San Jose, California with $200 to her name. Due to a family hardship situation, she had to forsake her graduating semester at Hunter College, CUNY. This was particularly difficult, since she was on an academic fast-track, having started college a little early, and being forced to leave behind a scholarship and grant.
Plot Twist -
Needing to support herself and a beloved family member, while waiting a year to establish residency in CA before she could re-enroll in college, she took a fateful business certification course in Tourism that eventually led her to travel to 7 countries, 3 continents, and 20+ cities. (A childhood dream that seemed all but impossible.) Yet, Jean still managed to return to college and finish her degree, even though no GE units transfer to CA. So she has the credit equivalent of a Masters Degree, but only a BA to show for it.
(While at Hunter College [CUNY], she'd taken electives in Theater Arts, Dance, and Film, including the fabled course that introduced students to the master of the craft himself - Orson Welles. While at San Jose State, she took courses in both Journalism and Advertising - torn between Creative Writing and Investigative Reporting.)
Fruitful Encounter -
Jean likes to say that she "somehow wound up working for APPLE" - right when Steve Jobs came back to the fabled company he'd founded, and just in time to experience the legendary REBIRTH OF THE COOL and THINK DIFFERENT ad campaigns.
Eclectic Interests -
As an avid researcher of history and esoteric knowledge, and someone who is insatiably curious, Jean just may hold the Evernote record at over 46,000+ notes.
A devoted natural healing advocate, Jean almost went back to college for a degree in Naturopathy, but chose to focus on creative arts instead.
She loves ALL forms of roller sports - from old school skate-dancing (which she also teaches, on occasion), to roller hockey and rip-sticking.
A Stunning Revelation -
Jean considers herself an "accidental person of faith" - having come to a startling and contradictory conclusion after spending 20+ years researching the roots of all religion, philosophy, and the origin of comparative mythology.
