Carley Shimkus will take up the co-anchor seat on “Fox & Friends First” opposite Todd Piro after Jillian Mele announced Friday that she was leaving the early-morning program.
Shimkus has been a reporter for Fox News Headlines, a co-host on the Fox Nation streaming service and a substitute host on Fox News Channel. She joined Fox Business Network in 2009 as a production assistant and was later promoted to associate producer. She is a graduate of Quinnipiac University. “The ‘Fox & Friends’ franchise has been the leader in morning television for nearly 20 years and I feel fortunate to be a part of this incredible team,” Shimkus said in a statement.
“Fox & Friends First” airs weekday mornings between 4 a.m. and 6 a.m., and typically represents the first original hours of the Fox News Channel schedule each morning. Fox News expanded the program in 2017, starting it at 4 a.m. rather than 5 a.m., its original start time.

She’s the co-host of “Fox and Friends First,” alongside new dad Todd Piro, and everyone loves Jillian Mele. She’s lovely, and she brings her intelligence to the conversation every morning while America collectively watches the news. Super Tuesday may stretch into early Wednesday.
The major broadcast and cable news outlets have big plans for covering a large number of primaries among 14 states, the event known as “Super Tuesday” that some anchors believe is one of the two or three most important events on the political-news calendar. “If election night, we say, is kind of our Super Bowl, this would be kind of the divisional championship,” Fox News anchor Bret Baier told Variety earlier this week.
Baier and co-anchor Martha MacCallum will lead marathon live coverage surrounding the election results from 6 p.m. to midnight on Tuesday, and Fox News will also carry live programs into the wee hours of the morning, including “Fox News @ Night” with Shannon Bream and early-morning versions of “Fox & Friends First,” anchored by Heather Childers, then Jillian Mele and Rob Schmitt.
Cable-news outlets aren’t the only ones devoting a larger set of hours to the proceedings.

“Fox & Friends” offered an on-air apology on Tuesday after accidentally running footage of California Sen. Kamala Harris during a segment about murder on a college campus.
The incident happened during a brief news update offered by Fox News host Jillian Mele, which ran stock images of Harris, just as Mele named the murder suspect, Melvin Rowland.
“Now, in an earlier version of this story we showed you the wrong video. We showed you pictures of Senator Kamala Harris instead of Melvin Rowland’s mugshot. We apologize for that error,” she said after a corrected segment ran later in the show.

The set of “Fox & Friends” had some kind words on Thursday for Kim Jong Un, calling the North Korean dictator “quite the romantic” while running a series of propaganda images of Kim touring around his country.
“Turns out Kim Jong Un is quite the romantic,” said Jillian Mele in a news brief.
“The North Korean dictator taking his wife on a tour of a fish pickling factory. State media releasing the photo to showcase what the rogue regime considers its economic strength,” she continued. “They did the same thing in 2014 when Kim visited a lubricant factory and when he visited a plant that makes potato starch.”

The story — which was openly sourced to the country’s “state media” — elicited some light banter from the group of regulars.
“The softer side of the dictator,” co-host Steve Doocy said.

Things did not go as planned on “Fox & Friends First” Monday after the show accidentally booked an anti-Trump Massachusetts state senator, who used the opportunity to berate Trump directly over immigration.
On set, hosts Rob Schmitt and Jillian Mele were blindsided when their guest revealed that she was not pro-Ice democrat Ann Kirkpatrick, but instead local Massachusetts legislator Barbara L’Italien.
“Good morning. I’m actually here to speak directly to Donald Trump,” said L’Italien. “We have to stop abducting children and ripping them from their parents’ arms, stop putting kids in cages, and stop making three-year-olds defend themselves in court.”

Both Mele and Schmitt appeared stunned and continued to address L’Italien as Kirkpatrick.
“Again, my name is Barbara L’Italien,” she corrected “And I refuse to believe that our only options are open borders or traumatizing children.”

“Fox & Friends” floated the possibility on Friday that in addition to a wall on America’s southern border, the U.S. should consider erecting one to protect Americans from Canada. “President Trump might want to think about a northern border wall if Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau gets his way,” said Jillian Mele during the show’s headlines segment. In Mele’s telling, the wall might be necessary due to new Canadian domestic policies initiated by Trudeau.
