- A sixth generation Californian, Chris was born and raised in the Central Valley of California, attending schools run by the Sisters of Charity and the Jesuit order. He attended college and law school at the University of San Francisco, another school run by the Jesuit order. He served as a Navy Judge Advocate in the continental United States and in Italy, receiving several medals for his service, including the Navy Achievement Award.
As a trial attorney, Chris is undefeated in trials he's first-chaired, representing some of the largest companies in the world, as well as individuals who considered they were wronged.

- As political appointee, chaired the committee whose work resulted in construction of the San Francisco Giants' current ballpark, AT&T Park, opened in 2000. Chris was appointed by several consecutive San Francisco mayors to various leadership tasks associated with the new ballpark.
