L.A.-based Dynamic Television has acquired worldwide rights to the Swedish series “The Pirate Bay,” about the notorious pirate BitTorrent site and its co-founders Peter Sunde, Fredrik Neij, and Gottfrid Swartholm.
The six-part series, set to go unto production this fall, is being produced by Stockholm and L.A.-based powerhouse B-Reel Films for Swedish pubcaster Svt. “I Am Zlatan” helmer Jens Sjögren is directing, from a screenplay by head-writer Piotr Marciniak (“Everything I Can’t Remember”), with Patrik Gyllström (“Agatha Christie’s Hjerson”) serving as episodic writer.
The character-driven show turns on Peter, Fredrik and Gottfrid, who ended up creating in 2003 one of the world’s largest BitTorrent indexes as a reaction to big business trying to take control file sharing over the Internet.
What was intended to ignite a revolution to let information flow freely, quickly became responsible for the illegal distribution of copyrighted films, music, books and software online.

Peter Sunde, one of the founders of file-sharing website Pirate Bay, was arrested in Sweden this past weekend to serve an outstanding sentence for copyright violations. Sunde has been on the run for almost two years since a Swedish court in 2012 found him guilty of breaching copyright laws and sentenced him to 8 months in prison. A Swedish police spokeswoman said Sunde had been arrested on Saturday after a raid on a farm in southern Sweden. The 35-year-old computer expert was one of four men who co-founded The Pirate Bay, the world's most popular site

Cologne, Germany -- Peter Sunde, one of the founding members of Swedish file-sharing site The Pirate Bay, has launched a crowdfunded project to design an Nsa-proof messaging service, called Heml.is, or “secret” in Swedish. The messaging platform, which Sunde is developing with colleagues Linus Olsson and Leif Hogberg, and which the trio pitched to potential users with an online video this week, aims to be both user-friendly and completely spy-proof. "All communication on today's networks are being monitored by government agencies and private companies," Sunde says in the video. "That's why we decided to be

The European Court of Human Rights has upheld the conviction of two of the co-founders of The Pirate Bay, one of the world's largest websites for sharing torrent files. Fredrik Neij, a Swede, and Peter Sunde Kolmisoppi, a Finn, were charged with complicity to commit crimes in violation of the Copyright Act. Various studios in Hollywood brought private claims within the proceedings, and the two were sentenced by a Stockholm district court to one year's imprisonment and fined 3.3 million euros. The following year, an appeals court reduced the sentence but increased the fine to 5 million euros.

It's only fitting that "Tpb Afk: The Pirate Bay Away From Keyboard," a documentary about Peter Sunde, Fredrik Neij and Gottfrid Svartholm (who's currently in prison in Sweden), the founders of the notorious file sharing site and copyright lawsuit magnet The Pirate Bay, would end up online for free just as the film had its world premiere at the Berlin Film Festival today. It's all part of the plan for the film, which opened the festival doc section while simultaneously being posted onto YouTube as well as, of course, the site on which it's centered. Directed by Simon Klose, "Tpb Afk" was funded by a combination of Swedish government art grants and a $25,000 Kickstarter campaign. The film's also available for digital purchase and DVD pre-order here, and Klose, who released the film under a Creative Commons license, also plans to upload a remix-friendly version that doesn't include the four minutes of archive material in the.
