Survivor is not an easy game. Producers dump castaways on a deserted beach with minimal resources and force them to compete in brutal physical challenges. They are starving, suffering from bug bites and other ailments, and are subject to harsh weather conditions. So it doesn’t come as a surprise that numerous players have quit over the show’s 44 seasons. But do the Survivor contestants still get paid if they forfeit their spot in the game?

Every Survivor fan knows that the Sole Survivor gets paid $1 million (before taxes) for winning their season. But what the CBS reality competition series doesn’t disclose on air is that producers pay the other contestants just for being on the show.
CinemaBlend reports that the first boot receives $3,500, and the total rises as the placement increases.

Last night, I posted my interview with the "Survivor: San Juan del Sur" fifth place finisher, Baylor Wilson, who admitted that even though she voted for her mother at Final Tribal, she'd vote for Natalie now if she had the chance. One Jury member who voted for Natalie, but who was a question-mark in my early guesses, was Keith Nale, a 53-year-old firefighter from Louisiana. Keith, who became something of an Immunity machine post-Merge, protecting himself from several possible vote-outs, knew that Natalie had spared him at at least one Tribal, but he also arrived at Final Tribal with some frustration at the remaining Twinie, accusing her of lying to him. In the end, Keith explains that he just thought Natalie was more deserving than the other two finalists, which is a pretty legitimate reason to cast a vote, I suppose. A fan favorite for his "Awww shucks" approach to the game,...

Best Solution: As bored with Homeland’s third season as we mere mortals, actress Olivia Wilde offered up this advice on Twitter: “Homeland writers, how about we just have Carrie take her meds, take over the CIA, annihilate Dana, and solve puzzles all day?”
Silliest Faux Deadline: No, no, not that whole debt ceiling thing. We’re talking about the question of whether or not Glee will end… not at the end of this season, but the end of next season.
Why God Invented The Internets: Folks wanting to “attend” the funeral of Breaking Bad’s Walter White being held in Albuquerque will be able to thanks to it being live-streamed on Youtube.
Cruelest Trick: General Hospital’s evil Dr. Obrecht tricked Robin by donning an Anna mask… and then laughed when the heroine fell for her charade. How can you not love to hate her?

Best Line: “Everyone wants to talk about how he died… but who cares?” said Glee’s Kurt regarding the death of his brother, Finn and, by extension, the controversial passing of portrayer Cory Monteith. “One moment in his whole life. I care more about how he lived.”
Biggest Cop-Out: Despite being better equipped than most shows to reach a young audience with a powerful message, Glee took the easy way out by never directly addressing how Finn died. They could have used the death of the character and his portrayer as exactly the kind of teaching moment they’ve become known for over the years.
Most Timely: Sorry, Law & Order, but The Good Wife — with its robotic telecommuters and tales about suing the Nsa — isn’t ripping stories from the headlines… it’s writing the ones we’ll read six months from now.
Why We’re Drinking Wine Before Noon: According to TVGuide.

Denise Stapley became the 25th person to win Survivor on Sunday night, taking home the million dollar prize after miraculously surviving every single Tribal Council in the Philippines outing of the CBS hit reality show.
Denise started the game on the doomed Matsing tribe, sticking out as her tribemates went home one by one, finally leaving only her and her alliance-mate Malcolm. She later joined the Tandang tribe, and managed, somewhat miraculously to hang on until the merge, when she was reunited with Malcolm and seemed to have a renewed shot in the game.
Denise, a sex therapist from Cedar Rapids, Iowa, says of her strategy coming into the game, "I remember laughing -- I wrote out a two page strategy. It looked a lot like I live my life outside the game. Build relationships, and keep building them. It's part of who I am. That was vital because of having to be the bottom feeder."

On Wednesday night, Katie Hanson became the second beauty queen to be voted off Survivor: The Philippines and ETonline catches up with the 22-year-old former Miss Delaware to get her take on being voted out.
ETonline: The reward challenge seemed like one of the most awkward and uncomfortable challenges ever. What was it like for you to be watching it?
Katie: It was definitely gross! People were crawling out of the mud like swamp monsters, it was terrible. It was actually a very dangerous challenge. They didn't really show this, but after the challenge, when everyone had washed off, they had so many scrapes and cuts all over their body from the wicker ball. Also anything could've happened in that mud. You could be running and twist or sprain something, anything. Six episodes in, and Denise has been to every single tribal council.

Merle Dixon. He’s the character Walking Dead fans love to hate, but the man who plays him, Michael Rooker, insists that Merle is simply misunderstood. According to Rooker, Merle is a positively delightful individual who did nothing wrong on that roof before he was handcuffed and left to die back in season 1. Who knows? Maybe he’s right, because when I went on set for an upcoming season 3 scene, the residents of Woodbury could not stop chanting his name — “Merley! Merely! Merely!” — over and over.
On this week’s InsideTV Podcast, Rooker explains what makes Merle so gosh darn swell.

Dana Lambert was doing well on Survivor until an illness took her out of the competition on day 12. The 32-year-old cosmetologist from Winston-Salem, N.C., tells People she enjoyed her time on the show - but regrets how things ended. It's hard for viewers to understand how sick you were. In a season dedicated to offering redemption for three of the most famously medically evacuated players in "Survivor" history, it almost would have been an affront to the show's Gods not to offer up at least one new sacrifice. Unfortunately for Dana Lambert, she ended up being that sacrifice. The 32-year-old North Carolina cosmetologist saw her "Survivor" journey come to a premature end on Wednesday's (October 17) episode when dehydration got the best of her. "Survivor" host Jeff Probst would be (and was) quick to note that the medic gave Dana a chance to stay in the game another...

Survivor: Philippines Review, Season 25, Episode 5
“Got My Swag Back”
Airs Wednesdays at 8pm (Et) on CBS
The opening four episodes of this Survivor season have spent a majority of time with the Matsing tribe, who lost every challenge. The battle lines have been drawn for the Tandang and Kalabaw tribes, but the conflicts haven’t played out at Tribal Council. This pivotal episode finally changes that trend and dramatically alters each tribe’s place in the game. Kalabaw dominated most of the early challenges, but bad luck and a challenge loss knocks out two members this time. While neither was a major player on the show so far, it’s still quite a change. They’ll start next week in a tough position where they really need to turn it around. This quick shift into difficult circumstances is a new place for a group that has rolled through the competition so far.

Wednesday night's Survivor: Philippines saw not one, but two players leave the game. ETonline catches up with Dana and Dawson to get their take on their exits.
First up, plucky cosmetologist Dana Lambert, who proved herself to be a force to be reckoned with despite her small frame. In a dramatic and unexpected moment, the 32-year-old left the game following days of illness, not even having made it to a single Tribal Council.
ETOnline: How hard was it for you to have to leave under those circumstances?
Dana: I'm still dealing with a little bit. It was completely devastating, honestly. It took me awhile to just accept the fact of what it was, and that I would probably make the same decision again. I kinda stand by that decision. What people [saw that] day [was] me being sick, but what people don't know is that it wasn't just that day. It was twelve days, the whole time...

Dear CBS and Cackling CBS Czar Les Moonves: Can we please fast-track a Survivor spinoff starring Malcolm and Denise of the dilapidated Matsing tribe? I think it could benefit society, which is more than I can say for anything Abi-Maria will achieve in her lifetime. I've already picked out some titles: Russell's Refugees; Post-Probst; Anything But Roxy; Awake and Matsing! (Clifford Odets fans in the house? Anyone?)
Thing is, we need that spinoff because Jeff Probst forced Malcolm and Denise to split up and join the two thriving tribes. Now that Malcolm's on Tandang and Denise is on Kalabaw, we may never see them team up in quite the same way again, though they're sharing an immunity idol at the moment. And just as I feared most, we got plenty more acquainted with the heretofore unseen Tandang and Kalabaw players this week, and they are... un-thrilling humanoid specimens.

There's an irony to someone getting removed by medical from "Survivor: Philippines." After all, the twist of this season was that three former contestants who'd been medically evacuated on their seasons were given a second chance, and now the show has claimed another victim. In this case, though, it was the contestant's call as medical didn't see a life-threatening need to remove her.
It all went down shortly after the first reward challenge of the season. With Matsing decimated, the tribe was dismantled completely at this challenge. Malcolm -- who'd found the immunity idol, with Denise's help -- found himself the newest member of Tandang, while Denise joined Kalabaw.
Finding that immunity idol must have given Malcolm some fortune that traveled with him. His tribe won both challenges this week. That means that Tandang has still never lost, while poor Denise has still never felt the feeling of victory.

Jeff Probst: Honestly, it did take me by surprise. Nothing like that has ever happened. As I snuffed her torch I felt her really staring and connecting with me. It was as if she had already accepted her fate...

Survivor 25,Philippines eliminated Sarah Dawson and Dana Lambert quit in episode 5 tonight. Tonight's show kicked off with more commentary footage. Matsing's Denise and Malcolm immediately went searching for the immunity idol, since they were down to only two people. Malcolm eventually found the idol. Then everyone headed to the "Rewards" challenge. Host Jeff Probst told Malcom and Denise that their tribe had been decimated, and they would have to draw to see who would join one which other tribes. Malcolm ended up joining the Tandang tribe, and Denise joined the Kalabaw tribe. Next, they competed for rewards, and Malcom and the Tandang tribe pulled out the win. Needless to say, both Denise and Malcolm were very happy to be on another tribe. The Tandang tribe really accepted Malcolm right away. Meanwhile, the girls on the Kalabaw tribe, were plotting to get Denise on their side,to go against the guys.

Can Malcolm and Denise rally and go all butt-kickers on the other two "Survivor: Philippines" tribes? Let's find out.
Matsing
Denise is convinced they're going to be split up and one sent to each of the remaining tribes. So they decide they've gotta make one last effort to find the Hidden Idol, in case they don't come back to their beach. They finally manage to find the Idol on the rice basket. So, who takes it if they send you to two different tribes? Turns out Malcolm does, by virtue of the fact that he snatched it up first. Hmm.
Reward Challenge
Jeff tells Malcolm and Denise to drop their buffs and they draw for which tribe they'll join -- Malcolm goes to Tandang and Denise goes to Kalabaw. Bummer. I wanted to root for Malcolm and Denise on their own.
The challenge is one-on-one where you just try to...

We've got a sneak peek of Wednesday night's (Oct. 17) episode of "Survivor: Philippines" for you, fans. The Kalabaw tribe gets a visit at camp, but not a welcome one.
In the clip, Jeff Probst and then the medical team are called in because Dana has a fever and her stomach is hurting on the right side, like a knifing pain that comes and goes. Medical thinks she could wait and see another 12 hours, drinking more fluids and reevaluate. But it's up to Dana.
Will she decide to see if she can tough it out? Meanwhile, this episode also features "a twist in the game" that changes tribe dynamics. We hope they aren't moving Malcolm and Denise to other tribes -- we were kind of hoping to see if they could Stephenie Lagross-it up.
"Survivor" airs Wednesday nights at 8 p.m. Et/Pt on CBS.

Survivor: Philippines Review, Season 25, Episode 4
“Create a Little Chaos”
Airs Wednesdays at 8pm (Et) on CBS
Russell Swan is a very competitive guy. He claims to strive for excellence in everything that he does. When he loses a challenge, it must be part of God’s plan, not because of the superior performance of his opponents. This approach makes sense for a 13-year-old, but it seems pretty silly for a guy who’s been on this Earth for 45 years. After this week’s immunity challenge, he smashes a bottle of rice and can’t understand why he’s being put through so much turmoil. After mistakenly calling Jeff Probst “Lord”, Russell calms down but doesn’t step away from his simplistic view on athletic competitions. It’s an uncomfortable moment for everyone involved, but it also provides fascinating insights about his approach. Even with the drama, it’s more interesting...

Apologies for the lateness of this recap of "Survivor: Philippines." Our CBS station preempted it for a congressional debate and "Survivor" aired in the middle of the night. Anyway, let's find out if Matsing can finally win something.
Matsing
Malcolm, Russell and Denise seem in pretty good spirits, all things considered. They certainly are down to three very strong competitors, so in the right kind of challenge, they could definitely win.
Russell starts looking for the Idol and Denise catches him. In a rather delightful bit of editing, he talks about how he's probably walking back and forth right in front of the Idol and the camera crew is going to focus right on it and of course, that's just what they do. It's nice he has the self-awareness to at least acknowledge he's kind of a doof. Heh.

Survivor: Philippines Review, Season 25, Episode 3
“This Isn’t a ‘We’ Game”
Airs Wednesdays at 8pm (Et) on CBS
It’s common on Survivor for one tribe to start slowly and lose multiple challenges early in the game. In a two-tribe contest, removing a few weaker players usually changes the momentum. The teams usually have eight or more members, so there are more opportunities to rebound. In a three-tribe format, it’s really difficult to stop the decline once the train starts rolling off the cliff. Matsing only has two good athletes who can effectively compete in the running and swimming challenges. Russell is a strong guy, but he doesn’t have the endurance or agility to make a difference. Denise and Malcolm try their best to carry Matsing to victory, but they fall short once again this week. They haven’t reached Ulong levels of ineptitude from the Palau season,...

Can Matsing pull it together on "Survivor: Philippines"? After she was kicked off, Roxy wasn't sure they could do it.
Tandang
Abi doesn't really trust Rc so much anymore, plus she's whining about her bum knee, so she wants to just lie around on the beach all day. Plus, she's snapping at Rc like a total lunatic and then goes to Peter and tells him about the Hidden Idol clue without asking Rc first. She wants them to look for it without Rc. Wow, way to just completely throw away your alliance.
And Peter decides he needs to take charge and approaches Lisa about blindsiding Mike if need be, who just goes along with it. Hmm. She does know she could get Mike and Artis her own alliance and go against Peter, Rc and Abi, right?
Kalabaw
Dana and Jeff realize the raised emblem on the top of the rice...

Have you ever wandered around in a dirty tankini for days, in search of a drink or something to eat, all while trying to make allies, avoid enemies and stay sane? If you answered "yes" to most of that, chances are you've either been to The Dinah, or you've been a contestant on Survivor, now in its mind-boggling 25th season.
This year, Survivor heads off to the Philippines where players will compete for the $1 million prize and the coveted title of "Sole Survivor." Among those who will "outwit, outplay and outlast," is out lesbian, Dana Lambert, a 32-year-old cosmetologist from North Carolina.

I had some burning questions for Dana about this whole not-showering thing, if lesbians are better at the game than straight women, and what it was like to be in a reality version of Lord of the Flies. Here are her answers.
