- Being highly skilled in martial arts and swordsmanship, Mackenyu performs his own stunts. His co-star Keisuke Watanabe from Brave: Gunjyou Senki (2021) expressed that he had difficulty keeping up with Mackenyu's speed during a duel scene. Steven Maeda, showrunner of One Piece (2023), also stated that the stunt team of the series couldn't keep up with Mackenyu, so they had to slow him down.
- Mackenyu became close friends with Eiichiro Oda after getting the role of Roronoa Zoro. Oda calls him over to his house by texting him "I'm free today, you can come over. Reply if you're coming. If you're not coming, leave the message on read". Oda also claimed he now hears Mackenyu when he draws Zoro.
- While preparing for his role of Arata Wataya in Chihayafuru series, Mackenyu learned how to play Karuta and speak the real Fukui dialect.
- Mackenyu is really interested in fashion. He is partnering with many fashion brands like Tiffany & Co, Cartier, Fendi, Burberry, Bottega Veneta and Louis Vuitton. He also has his own fashion brand, INCRM.
- Mackenyu has musical talents including singing and playing various instruments such as guitar, piano, saxophone and flute. He performed several musical stage-plays and contributed to the soundtrack of Our 30-Minute Sessions.
- Growing up Mackenyu had many interests including horseback riding, Yabusame (traditional Japanese archery on horseback), Kyokushin Karate, gymnastics, water polo and wrestling. He was a karate champion in middle school in Los Angeles and the school representative for wrestling.
- Mackenyu changed his stage name to Mackenyu Arata because of his role as Arata Wataya in Chihayafuru series.
- His co-stars and crew members frequently point out that Mackenyu can sleep anywhere and at any time. Mackenyu claims he developed this ability after becoming an actor and having less sleeping hours. Madison Iseman, who worked with him in Knights of the Zodiac, claimed Mackenyu once slept through a fire alarm for an hour without even leaving his room.
