After Piper (then 13) first appeared on the series "Line of Duty" (2012), some viewers complained to the U.K.'s broadcasting regulator, the Office of Communications (Ofcom), about the shocking scenes involving Piper, in one of which he attempts to cut off a policeman's fingers with bolt cutters. Ofcom excoriated the BBC for not providing psychological counseling to make sure that Piper was not traumatized by his scenes. They were also concerned about his character's use of and exposure to explicit language. Seven years later, Piper reprized his role on the series, portraying the same character as an adult.
