Mercedes Cook is a freelance multi-city Costume Designer. Hailing from Philadelphia, she has worked in New York, Chicago and Atlanta. Traveling has given her a diverse composition of work in film, although Mercedes technical background was formed in the fashion world.
She began sewing with her grandmother, a local Philadelphia tailor at the age of 10. These lessons nurtured her budding love for design. She studied at Moore College of Art and Design and gained a BA in Fashion. After College, Mercedes entered the fashion industry interning for Harper's Bazaar and Nanette Lepore's 2010 NYFW collection. Transitioning from a formative love of clothing she quickly became enamored with character development and dove head first into film.
Mercedes has studied under Glenda Bailey, Nanette Lepore, Ernesto Martinez, and Ruth Carter. Her work credits include Veep seasons 1 and 2 (HBO), Sleepy Hollow season 3 (FOX), Dirty Grandpa (Lionsgate) and Selma (Paramount)
Ms. Cook design credits include American Made (Universal), Ozark season 1 (Netflix), Star seasons 2 and 3 (FOX), and most recently working with Netflix again on the film Beats. Mercedes is looking towards a bright career in film but does not strictly limit herself in her passions. She has done independent styling work for Banana Republic, NYFW, Popsugar, and Vivica A. Fox. Her love for clothing has been cemented in time. We have our eyes beaming wide open with anticipation for the amazing work to come.
